IMPORTANT SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE PROTOCOLS
SAFETY INFORMATION
Before each use
- Check the safety valve, filter funnel and filter plate, to ensure that they are not blocked by coffee or limescale. Failure to do so may result in excess pressure to build up, and in extreme cases, cause burns or the coffee pot to burst.
- Ensure the coffee maker is not damaged and complete with all parts. Check the filter funnel, gasket and filter plate are intact and properly positioned, as in the diagram. If in doubt, please contact us.
During operation
- Please use the coffee maker only for its intended purpose.
- Always fill the base with water before applying heat.
- This product is designed to be used only with water and medium grind coffee. Please avoid using any other products (e.g. tea, cocoa, fine espresso grind or coarse grind coffee).
- Do not tamp the coffee grounds down in the coffee basket, as this can cause excess pressure build up.
- Do not fill the heating chamber with water above the safety valve, as this will cause it to not function properly.
- Ensure the coffee maker is properly closed.
- Use the appropriate heat source(s) according to the instructions for use.
- When using a gas stovetop the flame must not go beyond the circumference of the base. Use a gas ring reducer if necessary.
- When using an induction stovetop use the smallest burner and a medium or lower heat setting.
- If you notice a change in the usual operation of your coffee maker, remove it from the heat and stop using it immediately. If you are unsure of the cause, contact us and we will help diagnose the problem.
- Never use the product in an oven or microwave.
- Never leave the appliance unattended.
- Do not let children near the coffee maker when in use.
- Ensure the Safety Valve on the Base is pointed away from the user, as hot steam is released.
- The surface of the appliance will get very hot. Please use the heat resistant handle and knob on the lid.
- Do not operate the closing/opening system before cooling the coffee maker after removing it from a hot burner.
- If the product is not functioning as you expect, or changes over time, stop using immediately.
After Use
- Allow the coffee maker to cool before dismantling it.
- Place the coffee maker on heat-proof surfaces only.
- Hand wash each individual part thoroughly with warm water, avoiding the use of detergent.
- Ensure the product has dried out completely after washing and before reassembling for storage.
- Check the safety valve, filter funnel and filter plate holes are not clogged with coffee grounds, using a small brush to unclog them if necessary.
MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT PERIODIC MAINTENANCE OF THE PRODUCT IS CARRIED OUT IN ORDER TO ENSURE THE PRODUCT STAYS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER FOR A LONGER PERIOD.
Every 3 months
- Decalcify the unit. Using the product over time can cause limescale to build up. It is very important to decalcify the product to ensure that this does not cause a blockage to the filter funnel or safety valve over time.
Method
- Completely fill the heating chamber with water, above the safety valve, until the water line hits the funnel filter basket.
- Add 1 tablespoon of citric acid or vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, to the water.
- Leave the coffee maker for 2 to 4 hours.
- Discard some of the water until the safety valve is no longer covered (as per normal operation).
- Without adding coffee grounds, heat the product as usual. Discard the resulting solution. Discard the next 2 coffee brews to correct the taste.
Every 12 months
- Replace the Rubber Gasket, ensuring it is repositioned into the coffee maker correctly. If you notice a change in how your machine operates after replacing the gasket, stop using the coffee maker immediately and refit the gasket until it operates as normal. Contact us if you are unsure.
- Ensure you only use genuine London Sip spare parts (available from TheLondonSip.com) matching your model of coffee maker. Using replacement parts from other suppliers will invalidate your warranty and may cause safety issues.
Lifetime Limited Warranty
- Your product is warranted to be free of manufacturing defects for the lifetime of the product. This warranty does not cover spare or consumable parts, misuse, abuse, or general wear and tear.
