Paper Filter Required
Your ceramic coffee dripper requires the use of a paper coffee filter to
make coffee. The filters needed are common sizes and can be found online and
in most large retailers that sell coffee products. The CD1 uses a #1 paper
filter and the CD2 uses a #2 paper filter. We recommend using a quality filter
to prevent the filter from ripping open and dumping grounds into your cup.
Note: A #2 paper filter can be used with the CD1 if #1 filters cannot be
found.
Making Coffee
The process for making coffee with your dripper is simple but the grind size,
water temperature, coffee to water ratio, etc. are all factors that have to be
considered when making pour over coffee.
Some experimentation will be necessary until you achieve what you consider
your ideal cup of coffee. The information given below is a great place to
start and can be adjusted to your preferred taste. We also recommend the use
of a scale for best results.
Coffee to Water Ratio: 1:17 (1g of coffee for every 17g of water) Grind Size: Medium (freshly ground coffee is recommended) Water Temperature: 195-205°F Brew Time: 3-4 minutes
For the example below we are assuming a 1:17 coffee to water ratio.
To brew coffee, place the base of the dripper on top of a standard sized
coffee mug or coffee carafe. Place the correct size paper filter in the
dripper and 20g of ground coffee into the paper filter. In a kettle, heat
water to 195-205°F and evenly pour water over the grounds until they are fully
saturated and let the coffee “bloom” for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds have
passed, begin adding the remaining water to the filter in stages. Slowly pour
the water evenly over the grounds and avoid pouring the water directly down
the sides or center of the filter. Continue pouring water in stages until
reaching a total of 340g of water which is the 1:17 target ratio for this
pour. Allow the water to flow completely through the coffee grounds before
removing the dripper and discarding the grounds. The total brew time should be
approximately 3-4 minutes. Be sure to rinse the dripper thoroughly with hot
water after use.
