Reusable Stainless Steel Filter
Your coffee carafe is a complete pour-over coffee brewing system and includes
a reusable stainless steel coffee filter. The reusable filter is designed to
be used with all London Sip carate sizes.
Making Coffee
The process for making coffee in your carafe is simple but the grind size, water temperature coffee to water ratio, etc. are all factors that have to be considered when making pour-over coffee Some experimentation will be necessary until you achieve what you consider your ideal cup of coffee. The information given below is a great place to start and can be adjusted to your preferred taste. We also recommend the use of a scale for best results.
- Coffee to Water Ratio: 1:17 (1g of coffee for every 17g of water)
- Grind Size: Medium (freshly ground coffee is recommended)
- Water Temperature: 195-205°F
- Brew Time: 3-4 minutes
~ For the example below we are assuming an l:17 coffee to water ratio:
To brew coffee, place the reusable stainless steel filter in the carafe and place 20g of ground coffee into the filter. In a kettle, heat water to 195-205°F and evenly pour water over the grounds until they are fully saturated and let the coffee “bloom for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds have passed, begin adding the remaining water to the niter in stages. slowly pour the water evenly over the grounds and avoid pouring the water directly down the sides of the altar. Continue pouring water water in stages until reaching 340g of water which is the 1:17 target ratio for this pour. Allow the water to flow completely through the coffee grounds before removing the filter and discarding the grounds. The total brew time should be approximately 3-4 minutes. Be sure to rinse the filter thoroughly with hot water after use.
Reusable Filter Cleaning/ Descaling
Your reusable filter will not function properly if it is not deep
cleaned/descaled regularly. Over time coftee residue and scale can build up on
the filter and reduce the water flow and flavor of your coffee. Scale is a
naturally occurring buildup of mineral deposits caused by impurities in water
or use of hard water. The ideal time frame for cleaning and descaling your
carafe will depend on water hardness. We recommend that the filter be deep
cleaned and descaled every few weeks for optimal performance. Descale your
filter utilizing a descaling solution available at most retailers. Follow the
directions included with the descaling solution for optimal results.
Safe Use and Care
- FRAGILE – Handle the carafe with care to avoid breaking/shattering the glass.
