We designed this manual as if we were installing the module ourselves. We suggest reviewing the full manual before beginning the installation process. There are four areas this manual covers:

  1. Getting to know your module
  2. Figuring out your wiring
  3. Connecting to your hub/gateway
  4. Configuring your module (optimize the settings)

As we continue to work with hub manufacturers, and improve our products. It may be necessary to periodically update this manual. You can always find the latest version of this manual by visiting: inov.li/vzm36

Quick Setup Notes

We get it, you’re ready to go. No need to flip through the manual, you want the abridged version. This section assumes you have your module wired correctly and the blue LED is lit up.
It also assumes you know how to enter the Zigbee pairing mode on your hub/gateway (and have a Zigbee compatible hub/gateway). To see which hubs are compatible, please visit: inov.li/vzm36hubs While these instructions likely won’t change, for the most up-to date instructions, we recommend scanning the QR code to the right or to visit: inov.li/vzm36QS

Pairing Your Module

Auto-Pairing: The module will automatically start pairing when power is restored. To indicate the module is in pairing mode, the LED Indicator (B) will pulse blue. If the LED Indicator (B) is not pulsing, press the pairing button (A) three (3) times. Start the Zigbee pairing process on the hub at any time. If successful, the LED Indicator (B) will turn green.
If the module is unsuccessful in pairing, please hold down on the pairing button (A) for approximately 20 seconds until the LED Indicator (B) flashes/turns red. Let go and the LED Indicator (B) should start pulsing blue indicating the pairing process has started.

Getting to Know Your Module

Please use the next couple pages to get to know your smart module.
A. Pairing Button: Used to pair your module to your Zigbee Hub or to factory reset the module.
B. LED Indicator: Shows the various statuses of the module (ie: whether pairing mode was successful or not, whether the module was successfully removed or not, etc).
C. Zigbee Antenna: Used to communicate with your Zigbee enabled smart hub. Please ensure this is not covered by anything behind the canopy.
D. Line & Neutral Wires: The black wire is your line/ load wire (used to power the device) whereas the white wire is your neutral wire.
E. Fan & Light Wires: The red wire is the fan motor wire whereas the blue wire is the light wire.

Quick Tap Sequences

Wiring Notes

Due to the number of ways these modules can be wired, all schematics are housed online and you can access the schematics by scanning the QR Code at the bottom right, or by visiting: inov.li/vzm36wiring
To work your way through this section, first read the warnings, then familiarize yourself with the vernacular used and then make your way to installing the actual module.
Finally, please do not attempt to install these modules if you are unfamiliar with electrical as serious injury can occur.

Safety Reminder

Consult a qualified electrician if necessary as we are unable to give wiring advice outside of schematics.
If you are unsure how electrical circuits work, please do not try installing this device. As exciting as it is to have a smart module installed, it can be dangerous and even life-threatening if you do not install it correctly. Improper installation will void the product’s warranty.
Please read through the warnings on the next few pages before installing your module. We can’t stress enough how dangerous installation can be if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Project Cheryl

The purpose of this project is to bring back our second most popular switch which was the fan/light switch. To this day, it’s our #2 most searched for product on our site.
The name Cheryl was chosen to dedicate this to Eric H’s mom, who passed away in 2019 from cancer. She was an incredible person who instilled her solid work ethic and a stubbornness to never give up. In addition, the project’s name is Cheryl because the goal is to have this pair directly to our button controller, which is named project Walt (after Eric H’s dad who passed away in 2023) so they can always be paired together in homes as they are in heaven. To see the origin of this project, as well as the journey scan the code or visit: inov.li/cheryl

Thank You.
