Preinstallation

This section describes the installation location requirements.

Determining the location

  • The minimum distance between the cooktop and the ground must be the height of the hob box or metallic installation stand, plus an additional 11.8 in. (300 mm).
  • Position the cooktop so that no combustible material can be placed next to the cooktop sides.

Installation

WARNING: Fire and/or explosion hazard. Failure to obey the following warnings could result in death or serious injury:

  • Do not use matches, candles, or other sources of ignition to test fittings and LP gas lines for leaks.
  • The LP gas line material between the cooktop and the bottom shield must be rated for a minimum of 300 °F (149 °C) exposure.

Assembling the cooktop

DOMETIC-D21-SBC-Cooker-Outdoor-FIG-1

  1. Assembling the cooktop
    • Screw
    • Nylon washer
    • Seal gasket
    • Cooktop
    • Hob box
    1. Insert the seal gasket into the edges of the cooktop.
    2. Place the cooktop into the hob box opening so that it rests on top of the seal gasket.
    3. Insert the screws and nylon washers to connect the cooktop to the hob box.
    4. Verify the cooktop is level from side to side and front to rear.
    5. Tighten the screws to secure the cooktop to the hob box using a #2 screwdriver. Do not over tighten.

Connecting the LP gas supply cylinder

DOMETIC-D21-SBC-Cooker-Outdoor-FIG-2

Connecting the LP gas

  • Cooktop rear view
  • LP gas-certified hose
  • Quick-connect
  • LP gas connector
  1. Run the LP gas-certified hose from a 20 lb (9 kg) LP gas supply cylinder to the LP gas connector on the cooktop.
  2. Pull back the quick-connect attached to the end of the LP gas-certified hose.
  3. Position and release the quick-connect onto the LP gas connector, ensuring the connection is secure.
  4. Open the LP gas supply to the cooktop by turning the LP gas shutoff valve on the LP gas supply cylinder counterclockwise.
  5. Check for leaks using a non-corrosive leak detection fluid. Leak test pressures in excess of 13.9 in. w.c. (1/2 psi) of air pressure will invalidate the warranty.
  6. After confirming there are no leaks, turn off the LP gas supply to the cooktop by turning the LP gas shut-off valve on the LP gas supply cylinder clockwise.

Operation

WARNING: Burn, fire, explosion, and/or carbon monoxide hazard. Failure to obey the following warnings could result in death or serious injury:

  • Do not operate the cooktop in excessively windy conditions as this may cause a negative or positive draft. A negative draft caused by air moving across the cooktop may blow out the burner flame or move the flame into the cooktop, and/or cause carbon monoxide buildup.
  • Do not use the cooktop for space heating. Doing so may cause the cooktop to overheat.
  • Do not heat unopened containers on the cooktop. Doing so may cause the hot contents to explode.
  • Do not store flammable materials on, in, or near the cooktop.
  • Do not operate the cooktop if it is damaged or not working properly.
  • Verify there is a sufficient LP gas supply before attempting to light any burner. Air in the LP gas supply line will significantly delay burner ignition, and a burner may light unexpectedly as the air in the line clears out and is replaced by LP gas. Air may be introduced into the supply line when the vehicle gas bottle is replaced, during servicing of other gas appliances, etc.
  • If any burner should extinguish (after initially lighting or due to an accidental blowout), turn all the control knobs clockwise to the Off position and wait 5 minutes before attempting to re-ignite the burner.
  • Do not touch the burners, burner grates, or areas near the burners during and after use. Do not let clothing or other flammable materials contact the burners or areas near burners until these areas have had sufficient time to cool.
  • Use large enough cooking containers to cover the burner area and contain the cooked food. Doing so will reduce or eliminate heavy splattering or spills that can ignite.
  • Be sure that glass cooking utensils are safe for use on the cooktop. Only certain kinds of glass utensils are suitable for surface or burner use without breaking due to sudden changes in temperature.
  • Never leave the burners unattended when in use, as pan contents may boil over, resulting in smoke or a grease spill that may ignite.
  • Turn the pan handles inward, but not over the other top burners.
  • Because grease is flammable, never allow grease to collect around the top burners or on the cooktop surface. Wipe up any grease spills immediately.
  • Never use water on grease fires, and never pick up a flaming pan. Smother a flaming pan with a tight-fitting lid or cookie sheet. Extinguish flaming grease outside of the pan with baking soda or a multipurpose dry chemical or foam-type fire extinguisher.
  • Use care when lighting a burner by hand as the burner could ignite unexpectedly.
  • Do not allow the burner flame to extend beyond the edge of the cooking container.
  • The control knobs must be turned to the Off position when not cooking.

This section describes the activities required to operate the cooktop.

Maintenance

WARNING: Burn, fire, explosion, and/or carbon monoxide hazard. Failure to obey the following warnings could result in death or serious injury:

  • Always ensure the control knobs are in the Off position, the LP gas shutoff valve is closed, and the cooktop is disconnected from the LP gas source before cleaning and/or servicing the cooktop. Maintenance must be performed by a qualified service person only.
  • Keep the cooktop area clear of combustible cleaning materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapours and liquids.
  • All cooktop surfaces, burner grates, and burners must be cool before cleaning or disassembling the cooktop.

NOTICE: Failure to obey the following instructions could result in damage to the cooktop.

  • Clean all the surfaces quickly after spills.
  • Use warm soapy water only to clean the grill, hob box, painted surfaces, porcelain surfaces, stainless steel surfaces, and plastic items on the cooktop.
  • Do not use gritty or acid-type cleaners. Do not use steel wool or abrasive cleaners, as they will damage the cooktop. Use only non-abrasive plastic scrubbing pads.
  • Do not allow foods containing acids (such as lemon juice, tomato juice, or vinegar) to remain on the porcelain or painted surfaces. Acids may remove the glossy finish. Pitting and discolouration will result if spills are allowed to remain for any length of time on stainless steel.
  • Do not allow spills to remain on the burner caps as the burner caps could be permanently stained if spills are not cleaned up promptly.

Proper installation and care will help keep the cooktop looking and operating like new. Most cleaning can be performed using normal household items. The maintenance and cleaning instructions provided in this section should be performed as needed, depending on the use of the appliance. Failure to properly maintain the cooktop may void the warranty and could result in unsafe operation. Preventive maintenance is not covered under the warranty.
