Installation Preparation.
- To prevent personal injury and damage, ensure that the hanging location allows the blades a clearance of 7 ft. (2.13m) from the floor and 30in. (76cm) from any wall or obstruction.
- This fan is suitable for room sizes up to 400 square feet (37.2 square meters).
- This fan can be mounted with a downrod on a regular (no-slope) or vaulted ceiling. The hanging length can be extended by purchasing a longer downrod (0.5in./1.27cm diameter). Other installations, such as a flush mount, are not available for this fan.
Installation requires these tools:
Phillips screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver, adjustable pliers or wrench,
stepladder, wire cutters, and rated electrical tape.
Hanging Bracket Installation
Turn off circuit breakers to the current fixture from the breaker panel and be sure the operating light switch is turned to the OFF position.
WARNING:
Failure to disconnect the power supply before installation may result in
serious injury.
Remove the existing fixture.
WARNING:
When using an existing outlet box, be sure the outlet box is securely attached
to the building structure and can support the full weight of the fan. Ensure
the outlet box is marked “Suitable for Fan Support.” If not, it must be
replaced with an approved outlet box. Failure to do so can result in serious
injury.
CAUTION:
Be sure the outlet box is grounded properly and that a ground wire (GREEN or
bare) is present.
Install hanging bracket to outlet box using original screws, spring washers, and flat washers provided with new or original outlet box.* If installing on a vaulted ceiling, face opening of hanging bracket towards the high point of ceiling. Arrange electrical wiring around the back of the hanging bracket and away from the hanging bracket opening.
NOTE:
You must use the proper hardware when installing the hanging bracket as this
will support the fan.
Fan Assembly
- Remove the hanging ball from the download provided by loosening the set screw on the hanging ball. Remove the pin and clip. Lower the hanging ball and remove the stop pin. Then slide the hanging ball off the download. [Refer to diagram 1.]
- Loosen yoke set screws and nuts at the top of the motor housing. [Refer to diagram 2.]
- Tip: To prepare for threading electrical wires through the download, apply a small piece of electrical tape to the ends of the electrical wires–this will keep the wires together when threading them through the download. [Refer to diagram 2.]
- Determine the length of downrod you wish to use. Thread electrical wires through the threaded end of the download and pull extra wire slack from the upper end of the download. [Refer to diagram 2.]
- Thread download into the motor housing yoke until holes for pin and clip in download align with holes in yoke–make sure wires do not get twisted. Re-insert the pin and clip that were previously removed. Tighten yoke set screws and nuts securely. [Refer to diagram 2.]
- Slide yoke cover, canopy cover, and canopy over download. [Refer to diagram 3.] (Note: Canopy cover must be turned with a smooth side toward the motor housing.)
- Thread wires through the hanging ball and then slide the hanging ball over the download–the top of the download should be noted as having a set screw hole; use this hole when setting the set screw. Insert the stop pin into the top of the download and raise the hanging ball. Be sure the stop pin aligns with the slots on the inside of the hanging ball. Tighten the set screw securely. [Refer to diagram 4.]
WARNING:
Failure to tighten the set screw (on the hanging ball) completely could result
in the fan becoming loose and possibly falling.
NOTE:
The important safety precautions and instructions appearing in the manual are
not meant to cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It
must be understood that common sense and caution are necessary factors in the
installation and operation of this fan.
- With the hanging bracket secured to the outlet box and able to support the fan, you are now ready to hang your fan. Grab the fan firmly with two hands. Slide download through an opening in the hanging bracket and let the hanging ball rest on the hanging bracket. Turn the hanging ball slot until it lines up with the hanging bracket tab.
- WARNING: Failure to align the slot in the hanging ball with the tab in the hanging bracket may result in serious injury or death.
- Tip: Seek the help of another person to hold the stepladder in place and lift the fan to you once you are set on the ladder.
Wiring
- WARNING: Turn off circuit breakers to the current fixture from the breaker panel and be sure the operating light switch is turned to the OFF position.
- CAUTION: Be sure the outlet box is properly grounded and that a ground wire (GREEN or Bare) is present.
- Make sure all electrical connections comply with Local Codes or Ordinances and the National Electrical Code. If you are unfamiliar with electrical wiring or if the house/building wires are different colors than those referred to below, please use a qualified electrician.
- Note: Excess lead wire length from the fan can be cut to the desired length and then stripped.
- When the download is secured in place on the hanging bracket, electrical wiring can be made as follows: Connect the BLACK and BLUE wire from the fan to BLACK wire from the ceiling with the wire connector provided. Connect the WHITE wire from the fan to the WHITE wire from the ceiling with the wire connector provided.
- Connect all GROUND (GREEN) wires from the fan to the BARE/GREEN wire from the ceiling with the wire connector provided.
- If you intend to control the fan light with a separate light switch, connect the BLUE wire from the fan to the BLACK (or RED) supply from the independent switch.
- Wrap each wire connector separately with electrical tape as an extra safety measure.
- This fan is remote control adaptable (remote control sold separately).
Canopy Assembly
- Locate 2 screws on the underside of the hanging bracket and remove the screw closest to the open end of the hanging bracket. Partially loosen the other screw. Lift canopy to hanging bracket. Place the rounded part of the slotted hole in the canopy over the loosened screw in the hanging bracket and push it up. Twist the canopy to lock. Re-insert the screw that was removed and then tighten both screws securely.
- Slide canopy covers up to the canopy, aligning protrusions on the canopy cover with notches in the hole in the bottom of the center of the canopy. Press up gently but firmly on the canopy cover until it fits into the bottom of the canopy and then turn the canopy cover to the right (clockwise) about 1/2 in.
Blade Assembly
- WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious bodily injury, DO NOT use power tools to assemble the blades. If screws are overtightened, blades may crack and break.
- Time Saver: Washers for blade screws can be set on each blade screw prior to installing blades.
- Locate 15-blade attachment screws and washers in the hardware pack. Hold the blade arm up to the blade and align the holes. Insert 3-blade attachment screws (along with washers) with fingers first and then tighten screws securely with a Phillips screwdriver. Repeat for the remaining blades.
- Remove blade arm screws/lock washers from the underside of the motor. If plastic motor locks are installed with blade arm screws, discard plastic motor locks (save blade arm screws/lock washers to secure blade arms). Align blade arm holes with motor screw holes and attach blade arm with blade arm screws/lock washers. Before securing screws permanently, repeat this procedure with the remaining blade arms. Securely tighten all screws.
- NOTE: Tighten blade arm screws twice a year.
Light Kit Assembly
- Remove 3 screws from the outer edge of the fitter plate. Save screws for later use.
- Remove 1 screw from the motor plate on the underside of the motor housing and partially loosen the other 2 screws. Align slotted holes in the center of the fitter plate with loosened screws in the motor plate, allowing the male plug from the motor housing to come through a hole in the middle of the fitter plate. Twist the fitter plate to lock.
- Re-insert the screw that was just removed and secure all 3 screws.
- Connect the male plug from the motor housing to the female plug from the light kit fitter, matching up the colors on the male plug with the colors on the female plug for the correct fit. Make sure the plugs connect tightly.
- Align holes in the light kit fitter with holes in the fitter plate. [NOTE: The gap on the edge of the fitter plate must align with the reverse switch on the light kit fitter for the proper fit.] Attach light kit fitter with 3 screws that were previously removed. Secure all 3 screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
- Remove the socket ring from each socket on the light kit fitter. Use 1 socket ring to attach each shade.
- WARNING: Do NOT overtighten socket rings as shades may crack or break.
- Install four 9-watt medium-base LED bulbs (included). IMPORTANT: When replacing bulbs, please allow bulbs and shades to cool down before touching.
Testing Your Fan
It is recommended that you test the fan before finalizing installation. Restore power from the circuit box and light switch (if applicable). Test fan speeds with the pull chain on the light kit fitter. Start at the OFF position (no blade movement). The first pull will set the fan to HI. The second pull will set the fan to MEDIUM. The third pull will set the fan to LOW. The fourth pull will again set the fan to the OFF setting. Test lights with the pull chain in the middle. If the fan and/or lights do (do) not function, please refer to the “Troubleshooting” section to solve any issues before contacting Customer Service.
Turn the fan completely off before moving the reverse switch (located on the light kit fitter) (diagram 1). Set the reverse switch to recirculate air depending on the season:
- LEFT position in summer (diagram 2)
- RIGHT position in winter (diagram 3)
A ceiling fan will allow you to raise your thermostat setting in summer and lower your thermostat setting in winter without feeling a difference in your comfort.
Important:
The reverse switch must be set either completely LEFT or completely RIGHT for
a fan to function. If the reverse switch is set in the middle position
(diagram 4), the fan will not operate. Attach pull chain extensions supplied
or custom pull chain extensions (sold separately) to the ends of the pull
chains.
