Grout Finish Installation Tricks of the Trade
- Want to make the material easier to apply with the wheel applicator - open the cap and pry out the red valve. The material will flow easier but remember not to squeeze the bottle too much or it will be all over.
- There are many ways to apply and clean Grout Finish. The pros make sure there is a nice thin coating on the grout and any material on the surface of the tile is just a thin film. This is allowed to dry for 20-30 min and then a flat pad that is damp is wiped across the surface (a Wet Swifter pad works well). This usually removes the material from the tile surface without pulling it out of the grout joints. Touch ups are easy as well.
- Tip - Don’t worry about making everything perfect on the first pass. It is far easier to go back and touch up joints after the material has dried. Grout Finish can be applied any time with no fear of color mismatch.
- Dried material on the surface of the tile can be easily scrapped off with a wooden stick or even a plastic or metal putty knife.
- Remember - preparation is critical so be sure to remove grease, soap scum and any loose debris before applying Grout Finish. Shower areas are usually the hardest to clean and a stiff nylon brush with just water gives the best results. There is plenty of soap already on the grout joints - the object is to get as much off as you can.
- Missing grout - If you have missing grout, you can go to your nearest hardware or big box store and purchase ready-mixed grout. Color is not critical so any color will do. Once it has dried for at least 24 hours, you can apply the Grout Finish and it should blend perfectly with the rest of your project.
