NOTE!
This device can be used in combination with the Tsense eco plug electricity spot price optimiser. The eco plug is based on a wifi connection and the Tsense cloud service. As with any system, these may experience error conditions. Taelek Oy shall not be liable in any way for any direct or indirect damages that may arise, such as higher-than-expected electricity bills. Typical use of the weekly timer.

ELECTRICITY SPOT PRICE OPTIMIZATION WITH HOT WATER HEATER
In many locations, the water heater is sized so that water only needs to be heated for 6-12 hours per day. With a shortened heating period, it is advisable to adjust the thermostat of the boiler to a higher temperature, which improves the charging capacity and prevents the build-up of impurities in the water. It is advisable to set the heating to take place at night when the cost of electricity is statistically the lowest.

You can use the Tsense 3phase device’s internal weekly calendar for this or you can connect the device to the Tsense eco plug to optimize the use of spot electricity pricing. The Tsense eco plug button allows you also to force the heating on when the demand for hot water is higher than normal. Heating systems and e.g. charging of electric cars can be controlled similarly. Open all 4 screws in the corners to remove the cover.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • Bluetooth: Version 4.2
  • Operating voltage: 230V – 50Hz
  • Maximum load: 3*10A (resistive)
  • Temperature range: +5°C/+35°C
  • IP class: IP44
  • Standard Color: Grey
  • Dimensions: 105mm x 70mm x 42mm

INSTALLATION

A qualified electrician must install by wiring and building regulations. Before installation, disconnect any power to the timer’s mains. Loosen the 4 screws in the corners and lift the cover part off. You can fix the timer horizontally on the wall with 2 screws through the holes in the corners. Bring in the cables through two bushings. Use one for the supply side L1in, L2in, L3in and Nin, and the other for the load side L1out, L2out, L3out and Nout. Connect the wires to the timer’s terminals according to the wiring diagram, see the cover page:

  1. Mains L1in
  2. Load L1out
  3. Mains Nin
  4. Mains L2in
  5. Load L2out
  6. Load Nout
  7. Mains L3in
  8. Load L3out

Note!
The 3phase device is suitable for controlling one (L1) or three different (L1-L3) phases. The operating voltage of the device is taken from phase L1, so it must be used when controlling one phase. The N-terminal must never be loaded above the rated current (10A). Fasten the cover back in place with 4 screws. Tighten the grommets.

STARTUP
After connecting the power to the timer for the first time the parameters are initialized to their default values:

  • Name of timer: Serial number
  • Mode: Week timer
  • Ontime in PWM mode: 30%
  • Led brightness: 70%

PHASE TIMER
phase timer runs either in “Week timer” (scheduler) mode or an external device can control it in “Wireless relay” mode. If either of these modes fail then the timer enters a PWM mode to preserve some of its functionality. The modes are explained in the following chapters. Led indication lights show the status:

  • red ON => relays deactivated
  • green ON => relays ON
  • both leds flashing => fault condition
  • Additionally with the control App:
  • red blinking => bluetooth connection
  • With the free control app (Android and iOS mobile devices) the user can change settings and create a weekly program for the timer.

Settings

The timer settings are easily changed using the control app. There is a timeout lock in the activation of the save function. When switching on the power to the timer (from the fuse box), the user has one minute to connect to it from the control application. If 60 seconds have expired before the connection is made, no changes will be saved during the current session.

Name of timer
A free and descriptive name is shown in the control App. Mode selection: Week timer / Wireless relay By default, the “Week timer” mode is selected. In the “Wireless relay” mode timer receives wireless controls from an eco-plug device or a thermostat. This mode is typically used when the user wants to utilize the spot-price electricity.

Ontime in PWM mode
In PWM mode the outputs are pulse width modulated in one-hour cycles (in 10% or 6-minute steps). The default setting is 30%, which means that the outputs are on for 18 minutes per hour.

Led brightness
Brightness of the Led indicator.Network key and Confirm Network key The network key is used in pairing the timer with an eco plug (or thermostat). Select first “Wireless relay” mode. Both network key fields are filled with the same address (string) from the eco plug sticker OR read from a QR code using the app’s camera function. When a timer is paired with a thermostat the same string or address is written in both devices’ network key fields. In the thermostat turn on the “Receive wireless controls”. Finally, the changes are saved.

Week timer
The user can create an hourly ON/OFF program for each day of the week using the control application. During green hours, the relays are on. The device uses the weekly program when the Week timer mode has been selected. To run the weekly program, the correct time on the timer is required. If the timer loses the time, the weekly program stops and the unit enters PWM mode. The time is automatically restored whenever the control application is connected to the weekly timer.

Error modes
The timer indicates a fault condition by flashing the less. Fault codes are displayed on the info page of the control app:
