3. GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS

Pay particular attention to the following symbols, as they will be used throughout the following chapter without explaining their meaning again.

4. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS AND PROVISIONS

Bianchi invites you to respect the road traffic rules for cycling in force in the country of circulation and to follow the basic rules according to the context and situations of product use.

e-Bike Pedelec products (speed up to 25 km/h) are subject to the same road traffic rules applied to bicycles without electric assistance. Refer to the respective national laws in force as there may be differences between countries, such as the minimum driver age or helmet use.

e-Bike Fast/Speed Pedelec products (max speed 45 km/h) in the European Union are considered motor vehicles, similar to mopeds, for which obligations are foreseen depending on the country of circulation (helmet, license plate, driving license, insurance, age limits, equipment). Conversely, in other countries of the world, some of these obligations do not exist (see USA) or may be more stringent (see JAPAN).

Refer to the respective national laws in force as there may be differences between countries, such as the minimum driver age, helmet use
requirements.

Refer to individual national laws because fast e-bikes are subject to specific technical provisions. Testing e-Bike Fast / Speed Pedelec prohibits changes and modifications to certain components, subject to the extinction of the approval.

Children can only be transported in approved child seats. It is not allowed to attach child trailers.

5. INTENDED USE

6. BEFORE THE FIRST RIDE

Ask your specialist retailer to deliver the product ready for use, fully assembled, and adjusted according to the required measurements. Before starting, check the tire pressure (refer to the information on the tire and rim sidewalls), do not exceed the indicated pressure, check that the tires do not have deformations or damage.

Check the wheels and the quick-release and/or thru-axle closures. If possible, try the product on low-traffic roads for the first time and familiarize yourself with all the product’s controls, such as the brake system, gears, pedals, and in the case of e-Bike Pedelec products, familiarize yourself with all the functions of the command display and motor assistance.

7. BEFORE EACH RIDE

Check the product’s full efficiency, brake adjustment, tyre pressure, and tightening of screws/bolts. Pay attention to the road surface and elements that can affect the wheels’ grip on the ground (gravel, sand, roots, manhole covers, rails, etc.).

8. WHEEL LOCKS

Make sure all wheel locking devices (Quick release, thru-axles, and nutted axles) are correctly positioned and tightened.

Quick release is equipped with a lever and usually has the words OPEN and CLOSE written on it. To attach a wheel with a quick release system, move the quick release lever to the CLOSE position. The nut on the other side of the hub adjusts the preload of the quick release, turn the nut counterclockwise/clockwise to adjust the force required to close the lever.

Tighten the quick release lever so that it remains parallel to the fork leg. (see image 8A)
To remove a wheel with a quick release system, simply open the lever of the quick release, OPEN, and slightly loosen the preload nut.(see image 8B)

Thru-axle lock is similar to the quick release system, but there is no preload nut in this system. The fork and frame are equipped with the threaded part that acts as a nut. Insert the axle from the outside of the frame and fork into the wheel hub and start screwing in the axle step by step until it is fully locked.

Follow the specified tightening torque.

To remove a wheel with a thru-axle lock, turn the lever or the closing tool- key counterclockwise and slide out the axle. (see image 8C)
Nutted axles require specific tools (wrenches) for assembly and removal. (see image 8D)

9. PRODUCT ADJUSTMENT

Adjust the saddle height so that you can touch the ground with the tips of your toes. Once seated, rotate your legs until the pedal is in the lowest position and the extended leg is slightly bent (or, resting your heel on the pedal, the leg should be straight (see image 9A, 9B). Make the necessary micro-adjustments to achieve the optimal result.

The saddle and seat post can be adjusted depending on their type. Consult the specific supplier manuals.

10. BRAKING SYSTEM

Products are equipped with a braking system that can be activated using the levers on the handlebar (except for bikes with coaster brakes). The use of brakes allows you to reduce speed or stop the product. Normally the right lever operates the rear brake, the left lever operates the front brake (some countries require a variation and the left lever operates the rear brake). The front brake has significantly more braking power than the rear brake. On dirty and sandy roads, modulate the front brake to avoid slipping.

The braking torque is proportional to the force applied to the levers.
During intense braking “maximum braking force”, the weight is transferred to the front wheel and the rear wheel is lightened, it is likely to lift off
the ground with the risk of tipping over or losing tire grip. This situation may occur during steep descents; always try to shift the weight as far
back as possible.
The braking distance also depends on the user’s driving skills.

CAUTION!
Familiarise yourself with the braking system, as understanding its operation and braking power can prevent falls and accidents.

DANGER!
Before using the product, make sure to tighten the brake system screws according to the indicated tightening torque on the screws.

DANGER!
In case of rain, wet, dirty, or loose road surfaces, the braking effect decreases, and the braking distance increases. Keep in mind that wet weather can cause the tyres to slip easily.

There are different types of braking systems: disc brakes, caliper brakes, and coaster brakes.

INFORMATION/NOTE!
For more information, consult the manufacturer’s user manual for the braking system supplied with the product.

Caliper brakes
The braking action occurs through the friction generated by the brake pads on the machined rim profile. With each braking action, the brake pads wear out: frequent use, sandy road surfaces, dirt, and other debris accelerate the wear of the brake pads and the rim profile. Replace the brake pads only with approved parts suitable for the rim’s braking surface. Have the rim wear checked by your specialised retailer. Some rims have a wear indicator: replace the rim when it is no longer visible (see image 10A,10B, 10C)

CAUTION!
Ensure that the brake pads and braking surfaces are clean from grease, oil, or other dirt.

CAUTION!
If in doubt about replacing the brake pads, consult a specialised retailer.

Disc brakes
In a disc brake system (see image 10D), the brake pads are activated either by incompressible fluid or by a steel cable. The fluid works in the same way as the cable; activating the levers forces the pads against the disc/rotor (see image 10E), generating the friction that stops or slows down the product. Periodically check the functioning of the brake system.

Brake pads should be replaced if dirty and/or worn (thickness less than 1mm).

DANGER!
Do not touch the brake discs after braking, as they may be hot and cause burns.

CAUTION!
During transport or when the product is resting on the ground or overturned, do not activate the brake lever because air bubbles could enter the hydraulic system and render the brakes ineffective.

DANGER!
Do not use the product if the brake system is not pressurized or if activating the levers does not generate effective braking. Consult your specialised retailer to bleed/vent the brake system.

INFORMATION/NOTE!
After removing the wheels, be careful not to activate the hydraulic brake lever, as this would cause the brake pads to approach each other. Use the plastic spacers provided with the product.

Coaster brake
Some models are equipped with a coaster brake. Coaster brakes allow you to brake the rear wheel by rotating the crank backward (pedalling backward instead of forward, (see image 10F).

This type of brake is suitable for predominantly flat routes. On long descents, the brake can overheat, and the braking action of the coaster brake can be significantly reduced. Contribute to braking with the front brake as well.

DANGER!
Do not touch the brake after a long or intense braking session, as it may be hot and cause burns.

DANGER!
After each brake intervention and before each ride, check the proper functioning of the brake itself. Do not use the product if the braking is different from before the intervention. Contact your specialised retailer to have the brake system checked.

11. SUSPENSIONS – ADJUSTMENTS BASED ON WEIGHT
Some products are equipped with front suspension systems (fork) or dual suspension systems (frame and fork).
In suspensions with steel springs, it is possible to adjust the suspension stiffness to your weight using a knob-lever (see images 11A, 11B, 11C), while in the case of air suspension, you can adjust the suspension stiffness via air pressure (with the help of a fork pump). Refer to the suspension manufacturer’s manual provided separately. In case of difficulty, consult your trusted retailer.

CAUTION!
Suspension maintenance and adjustment require specialised tools and specific technical knowledge. If in doubt, consult your specialised retailer.

DANGER!
During use, the bicycle with suspension varies its distance from the ground. Especially when cornering, be careful not to let the pedals touch the ground to avoid the risk of falls and/or injuries (see images 11D, 11E)

12. GEAR SHIFT

Most products are equipped with a rear derailleur, some also with a front derailleur. This mechanism is necessary to vary the transmission ratio and adapt it to the type of terrain and riding speed.
In the product with an external derailleur, the correct procedure for shifting is to continue pedalling.
In the product with an internal hub derailleur, the correct procedure for shifting is not to pedal.

CAUTION!
Practice shifting on traffic-free terrain. Becoming familiar with shifting procedures in traffic would constitute a dangerous distraction.

CAUTION!
Consult the instructions for use provided separately by the gear manufacturer.

DANGER!
The gear adjustment requires specific technical knowledge. Incorrect adjustments can cause mechanical damage. In case of problems with the gears, consult your specialised retailer. It is advisable to have the gears checked by a specialised retailer in case of falls, overturns, or transport damage.

13. CHAIN AND BELT

The chain is one of the most wear-prone parts of the product, and its lifespan can be strongly influenced by riding style, cleanliness, and weather conditions. If the product is equipped with a belt, consult the manufacturer’s manual provided separately.

INFORMATION/NOTE!
Clean the chain with a dry cloth. Lubricate the chain regularly after rides in the rain.

CAUTION!
Adjusting the chain tension for internal hub gears or replacing the chain should be done by experienced mechanics; consult your specialised retailer.

DANGER!
An incorrectly mounted chain can skip or break, causing falls. Have the chain replaced by your specialised retailer.

14. WHEELS AND TYRES

The correct tyre inflation pressure allows for easier pedalling and better grip on the ground. The recommended pressure is indicated in bars or PSI on the tire sidewall or on a label applied to the rim (see image 14A).

CAUTION!
Regularly check and maintain the tyres at the prescribed pressure.

DANGER!
Always inflate within the maximum and minimum pressure values. Failure to comply may cause the tire to come off the rim or explode. Risk of falling!

15. ACCESSORIES

Lights, Reflectors, Bell
Visual and acoustic signalling devices are essential for visibility in road traffic. All products are equipped with visual and acoustic signalling devices; ask your specialised retailer to assemble the lights, reflectors, and bell.

Some Pedal-Assist e-Bike Pedelec product models have an integrated lighting system. The lighting system is powered by the e-Bike battery. In Speed Pedelec e-Bike products, daytime running lights are required by law.

DANGER!
Never use a product with a non-functioning lighting system. Do not travel with an insufficiently charged battery. In the dark, other vehicles may not notice the “bicycle” or any obstacles on the road may go unnoticed. Risk of serious accidents!

CAUTION!
Reflectors do not replace mandatory lights. Periodically clean and replace damaged reflectors.

Rear Rack, Child Seat, Kickstand
Many product models allow for quick accessory attachment, for example, the SnapIt system from Racktime or Avs from AtranVelo, etc. (see www.racktime.com) or (see www.atranvelo.com). These systems are designed to simplify the attachment of baskets and bags. Observe the maximum allowed load.

Transporting children and goods
Always check the following points before using the loaded product or one equipped with a child seat:

  • Is the child seat properly attached?
  • Are the basket and/or bags securely attached?
  • Is the child wearing a helmet?
  • Is the child’s safety belt fastened?
  • Is the load securely fastened to prevent it from falling?
  • Is the maximum allowed total weight observed?
  • Is the tyre pressure adequate?
  • Are the lights or reflectors visible?

DANGER!
Do not use the product if the above points are not met. Poor assembly of the basket, bags, and/or child/seat, if not securely fastened, can come loose and cause serious accidents.

DANGER!
A loaded product behaves differently on the road, and the braking distance increases. Test the road behaviour with a full load at low speed.

DANGER!
Ensure that the child cannot insert their fingers into the saddle springs and that they cannot insert hands and feet into the wheel to avoid serious injuries. If the product is parked on the kickstand, do not leave the child sitting in the seat. Only use an approved and safe child seat. Refer to the specific instructions for the child seat.

INFORMATION/NOTE!
Not all bicycles are compatible with child seats. Check with your retailer if it is possible to mount a child seat on the product and what type it should be.

INFORMATION/NOTE!
Find out about the regulations in your own country regarding the transport of children in child seats (for example, by consulting your retailer).

CAUTION!
In the case of Fast e-Bikes – Speed Pedelecs (max speed 45 km/h), the transport of children in dedicated trailers may be prohibited. Consult the relevant authorities regarding current legislation on road traffic.

16. MOTORS AND BATTERIES

All Pedelec e-Bike models are equipped with an electric motor and a rechargeable battery. Carefully read the separate motor and battery manual, as well as the instructions on battery management and the charger.

DANGER!
In case of damage to the electrical system, immediately remove the battery from the e-Bike Pedelec and consult your specialised retailer. Contact your specialised retailer in case of doubts, problems, or malfunctions as well. Lack of specific knowledge can lead to serious accidents. In case of malfunction, the battery should not be recharged and can no longer be used.

In Pedelec e-Bike models, the electric motor only engages when pedalling and gradually stops as the e-Bike Pedelec’s speed approaches 25 km/h (20 mph or 28 mph for US versions), then completely stops at that speed. Generally, e-Bike Pedelecs are equipped with a display, and some displays have an integrated battery. Charge the display every three months (usually via USB cable) to prevent a low state of charge in the display’s integrated battery. Carefully read the display manufacturer’s manual.

INFORMATION/NOTE!
The lighting system does not work if the e-Bike Pedelec is used without a battery or with the system turned off. It is possible to ride with the lights on and without electric assistance by setting the assistance level to off (the battery must be inserted).

DANGER!
Before performing maintenance, assembly, or other work on the e-Bike Pedelec or transporting it, remove the battery. Accidental activation of the electrical system can cause injuries.

INFORMATION/NOTE!
To charge the battery, use only the original charger approved by the manufacturer. Once charging is complete, remove the battery from the charger and disconnect it from the power supply. For safety reasons, the charger and battery must be placed on a dry, non-flammable surface. Do not charge in a flammable environment.

CAUTION!
Do not open the battery, as there is a risk of short circuit. Opening the battery can cause the release of harmful liquids, affecting health and voiding the warranty. Protect the battery from damage, heat (e.g., prolonged exposure to sunlight), fire, and immersion in water.

DANGER!
Risk of explosion. If the battery is damaged or misused, harmful vapours may be released.

DANGER!
Keep the battery out of reach of children.

DANGER!
Batteries are classified as dangerous goods. Batteries can overheat and catch fire.

The electrical components of e-Bike Pedelecs are generally designed to function up to a temperature of -10°C. At low temperatures, the range of e-Bike Pedelecs decreases. This is a normal physical process and does not represent a defect or malfunction. At higher temperatures, the full capacity will be available again.

INFORMATION/NOTE!
In cold temperatures, it is recommended to keep the battery at room temperature and start riding immediately after inserting the battery into the e-Bike Pedelec. The current flow will heat the battery, allowing for good product range even at low temperatures.

For a new battery: fully charge the battery before using the e-Bike Pedelec. If the battery is used frequently: charge promptly when the charge level is low; it is not necessary to fully charge it.

For a used battery: if the battery needs to be stored for an extended period, charge the battery to about 60%>80% before storage. Then charge the battery every 3/4 months, about 2 hours for each charge. Unless otherwise indicated by the manufacturer.

Do not leave the battery installed on the bike during storage: the e-Bike system is subject to energy consumption that, although low, can cause a rapid reduction in battery capacity, compromising its future operation. For this reason, it is necessary to disconnect the battery from the bike before any storage and disuse for long periods.

17. TRANSPORTING THE PRODUCT

Bicycles can generally be transported by car, train, plane, and ship without any restrictions.
However, for e-Bike Pedelec products, there are prohibitions, limitations and/or suggestions for transportation.

Transport by train
Bicycles and e-Bike Pedelecs: Before departure, inquire about the necessary formalities and make any required reservations.

Transport by air
e-Bike-Pedelecs: They usually cannot be transported by air. Lithium-ion batteries are classified as dangerous goods and are not authorised for transport on aircraft. Consult with the airline if you wish to transport your e-bike by air.

Transport on car bike racks
e-Bike Pedelecs: For safety reasons, during transport by car, the e-Bike Pedelec battery must be removed. During assembly, ensure that the bike rack properly secures the product and provides stable support. Adjust your driving speed according to the load and the vehicle’s altered road behaviour.

Transport by ship
Bicycles and e-Bike Pedelecs: Before departure, inquire about the necessary formalities and make any required reservations.

CAUTION!
Some bike rack clamps may damage the frame. Carefully read the bike rack manual.

CAUTION!
During transport by car, the battery must always be removed.

CAUTION!
Transporting the product on a bike rack increases the dimensions of your vehicle.

18. PRODUCT CARE AND CLEANING

DANGER!
Remove the battery before performing any work on Pedelec e-Bike models. Accidental activation of the electrical system can cause injuries.

Periodic Maintenance
When picking up the product from the specialised retailer, it will have been assembled and ready for use. The proper functioning of the product largely depends on its correct maintenance. Have it periodically serviced by a specialised retailer to ensure the long-lasting and safe operation of all components.

Cleaning and Care
Cleaning the product is essential to ensure the proper functioning of all its parts. Sweat, dirt, winter salt or sea salt can damage the bicycle. For cleaning, use a soft cloth, clean warm water, and a little mild soap. Do not use aggressive detergents and do not use sharp, pointed, or metallic objects. Never clean the Bicycle/e-Bike Pedelec with aforceful water jet or high- pressure tools such as pressure washers. Dry all components with a soft, dry cloth. Once dry, you can apply a treatment product to the surface (ask your retailer for the most suitable product). After cleaning the product , lubricate the chain with appropriate chain oil. For additional information on cleaning individual components, refer to the specific instructions provided by the parts manufacturer.

CAUTION!
Do not treat brake discs with any product.

CAUTION!
Do not clean the product with a pressure washer or steam cleaner at close range. Water can penetrate bearing seals, resulting in increased friction.

DANGER!
Do not apply detergents and chain oil to brake disks and rim braking surfaces. Brakes may malfunction, causing accidents and severe injuries.

Product Storage
For storage, a dry, shaded and well-ventilated room is recommended. For e-Bike Pedelecs, charge the battery to about 60% – 80% capacity. Then charge the battery every 3/4 months, about 2 hours for each charge.

19. INSPECTIONS AFTER THE FIRST PERIOD OF USE – 6-10 WEEKS – 500 KM

After an initial break-in period of up to 500 km (or 310 miles), the product should undergo regular maintenance. Adhering to inspection intervals is in the user’s interest to ensure the proper functioning and safety of the product.

CAUTION!
Bianchi reserves the right, in the event of a warranty claim, to verify whether the reported defect could have been avoided with proper maintenance. Based on this verification, Bianchi reserves the right to invalidate the warranty service.

DANGER!
The product is subject to wear and high stress. Components may react differently to stress and wear. Monitor components; any changes in finish or colour, signs, scratches, and/or cracks indicate that the component must be replaced.

CAUTION!
It is recommended to shorten inspection intervals with frequent use of the product on poor road conditions or in adverse weather conditions.

20. ENVIRONMENT

Disposal
To avoid any form of environmental pollution, Bianchi encourages the end customer to dispose of the product and its packaging in accordance with the regulations in force in the country of purchase. The bicycle packaging is generally disposed of by the retailer. Dispose of it according to the regulations in force in the country of purchase.

The e-Bike Pedelec is classified as WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) at end of its life. Therefore, it can be disposed of free of charge in its entirety at a special waste collection centre. For this purpose, contact the competent office in your country of residence or consult the applicable regulations.

21. SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE

The specialised retailer has assembled the product to allow immediate use. However, it is necessary to regularly take care of the product and have maintenance operations carried out by the specialised retailer at regular intervals.
The first inspection should be carried out within 500 km (310 miles) or after 6-10 weeks of use, as during the “running-in” period, the fastenings of screws, spokes, gears, etc., settle. Arrange an appointment with your specialised retailer.

After the “running-in” period, maintenance operations should be carried out at regular intervals by the specialised retailer. Winter is an ideal time for the annual inspection.

DANGER!
Inspections and repairs must be carried out by the specialised retailer. Missed inspections or those carried out by inexperienced personnel can cause component failure. Risk of accident!

DANGER!
For the replacement of wearable parts and/or essential safety components, use only original parts or at least equivalent ones.

CAUTION!
If defects are noticed during checks, contact the specialised retailer immediately.

Information on component wear
Some components of the product are subject to a certain level of wear due to operation. The extent of wear depends on care, maintenance, and type of use (mileage, rain, dirt, salt, etc.).
Products that are frequently parked outdoors may be more prone to wear due to weather exposure.
