CAMPINGAZ 400 SG Xcelerate Double Burner & Grill Stove

NOTE : Unless otherwise specified, following generic terms “appliance / unit / product / equipment / device” appeared in this instruction manual all refer to the product “400 S / 400 SG/ 600 SG”.

Thank you for choosing this Campingaz® stove.  This manual is common to all the versions stated below:

  • 400 S: 2 burner stove
  • 400 SG: 2 burner stove and Grill function
  • 600 SG: 2 burner stove, Grill function, stand and shelves.

ASSEMBLING

  1. ASSEMBLING THe STAND AND SIDE SHELVES (model 600 SG)

    Turn the appliance upside down on a clean, flat surface. Pull out the side shelves located under the stove body. These shelves are held by plastic clamps on the aluminum telescopic legs. Pull the shelves vertically to release them (fig. A). Unfasten the rolled up textile shelf attached with hook-and-loop straps. Unhook the telescopic feet from their housing under the stove (fig. b):

    • Push in button B (1)

    • Slide the tube to release it (2)

    • Pull it out (3). Repeat the operation for the other 3 legs. Screw each foot into the 4 corners of the plate, checking that they are tight (fig. C). Fixing the side shelves Pull out the support wire under the shelf by compressing wire F (fig. D). Lodge the ends of the support wire in the holes located on the sides of the legs (fig. E).
      Attention : There are 2 holes on each leg. When lodging ends of the support wire, use the lower holes on the front pair of legs and use the upper holes on the rear pair of legs.

    • Front legs: bottom hole (T1)

    • Rear face: top hole (T2) (see fig. D) Place a shelf on the side support of the appliance (fig. F – step a). Fix the 2 retaining screws (fig. F – step b). Hook the support wire into the notches EN provided for this under the shelf. Repeat this operation for the second shelf. Check the stability of the shelf attachments before putting any weight on them.
      Fitting the central textile shelf (fig. G)

    • Unfold the shelf by opening the jointed uprights progressively on each side.

    • Place the ends of the uprights P in the plastic rings (rotating freely on each foot).  Check that the shelf is well tensioned (completely unfold the uprights P to improve the stability of your appliance.
      Stability on the ground

    • You can adjust the stability of the appliance on the ground by the adjustment screws at the end of each foot (fig. H).

  2. ASSEMBLING THE FEET (model 400 S AND 400 SG)
    Turn the appliance upside down on a clean, flat surface. Install the screw through the hole at the bottom of the foot. Tighten the screw with a screwdriver. (fig. I)
    Note : Take care to not over-tighten the screw. The screwdriver is not included in the package.

FOR YOUR SAFETY IMPORTANT

This operation manual will help you use your Campingaz® unit properly and in complete safety. Consult the manual to familiarize yourself with the unit, before connecting the gas cylinder. Abide by the instructions given in this manual. Failure to do so may be dangerous for the user and anyone else close by.

Always keep this manual in a safe place, readily available for reference if necessary. This unit is manufactured to use either butane or propane, with a suitable regulator and a hose, which are sold separately. Never use a unit that is leaking, that is not operating properly or that is damaged. return it to your dealer, who will indicate the nearest servicing agent. Never modify this unit, or use it for applications for which it was not intended (oven, grill, lighting, heating, etc.). This appliance must only be used out of doors and away from inflammable materials. Never use this appliance without its pan supports. Any modification of the appliance could be dangerous. Assemble the feet with the included screws prior to first usage (400 S and 400 SG). Never use this unit without feet.

  • Parts which are protected by the manufacturer or the manufacturer’s representative must not be manipulated by the user.
  • Do not leave your appliance unattended when it is operating.
  • Shut off gas supply after use.

GAS CYLINDER AND REGULATOR

This unit can be used with a CAMPINGAZ® butane cylinder type 904 or 907.

It can also be used with other, larger, butane or propane reservoirs (6 kg, 13 kg, etc.) and the appropriate relief valves (consult your dealer):

  • France, belgium, Luxembourg, United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece : butane 28 mbar / propane 37 mbar.
  • Netherlands, Czech republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, bulgaria, Turkey, romania, Croatia: butane 30 mbar / propane 30 mbar.
  • Poland: propane 37 mbar.
  • Germany, Austria: butane 50 mbar / propane 50 mbar.
    Always connect or replace the cylinder in a well-ventilated area, never in the presence of a flame, spark or heat source.

HOSE

France:
The appliance must be used with flexible tubing intended to be fitted onto ringed connectors on appliance and regulator sides, fixed by collars (Standard XP D 36-110).

Check that the flexible hose stretches ou  normally without twisting or pulling and does not come into contact with the hot sides of the appliance. It should be replaced when the expiry date on the hose is passed or whenever it is damaged or develops surface cracks. Do not pull or pierce the hose. Keep away from any parts of the appliance that get hot.

To use the equipment with the flexible hose XP D 36-110:

Check for gas leaks following the instructions in paragraph E.

Belgium, Luxembourg, United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Netherlands, Czech republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, bulgaria, Turkey, romania, Poland:

The barbecue is equipped with a circular connector. It should be used with flexible hose that is suitable for use with butane and propane gas. Hose length should not exceed 1.20 metre. It should be replaced if it is damaged or cracked, when required by national regulations or at the end of the part life- cycle. Do not pull or pierce the hose. Keep away from any parts of the barbecue that get hot. Check that the flexible hose stretches out normally, without twisting or pulling. Check for gas leaks following the instructions in paragraph E.

Switzerland, Germany, Austria:

The barbecue should be used with flexible tubing that is suitable for use with butane and propane gas. Hose length should not exceed 1.50 metre. It should be replaced if it is damaged or cracked, when required by national regulations or at the end of the part life-cycle. Do not pull or pierce the tubing. Keep away from any parts of the barbecue that get hot. Check that the flexible hose stretches out normally, without twisting or pulling.

Flexible tubing connection: to connect the tubing to the connector on the barbecue, tighten the nut on the tubing firmly but without excess force using the two wrenches provided:

  • No. 10 wrench to tighten the connector
  • No. 17 wrench to tighten the nut on the tubing

Connect the other end to the regulator outlet union. Check for gas leaks following the instructions in paragraph E.

CONNECTING THE GAS CYLINDER

If replacing an empty cylinder, read SectionG):
«Removing or changing the gas cylinder».

When installing or removing a gas cylinder, always operate in an open, well- ventilated place, never in the presence of a flame, spark or any other source of heat (cigarette, electrical appliance, etc.), and away from other persons or inflammable materials.

  • Position the gas cylinder on the ground, behind or beside the appliance.
  • Important: never store the gas cylinder on the shelves (textile or metal).
  • Close the regulator or gas cylinder valve.
  • Screw or click the regulator onto the cylinder or onto the gas cylinder valve.
  • Close the stove valves by turning the knobs clockwise, position (•).
  • Check that the tubing lies normally, without twisting or stress.
  • Check that the burner tube air holes at the injector are not obstructed by dust or spider’s webs.

Gas leaks
Do not check for leaks using a flame. Use a gas leak detecting liquid.

  • Apply gas leak detecting liquid to the cylinder/relief valve/pipe/stove unions.
  • The control knobs should remain as set (•).
  • Open the gas supply (valve or lever on the relief valve).
  • Any gas leaks will be indicated by bubbles.
  • Tighten the collars if fitted to stop the leak. Replace any defective parts. The stove must not be used until all leaks have been eliminated.
  • Close the valve on the gas cylinder.
    Important: An overall inspection and leaks check must be carried out at least annually and always after changing the gas cylinder.

USE

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  • It’s recommended that protective gloves be worn to handle components which may be very hot.
  • Do not use the stove within 20 cm of a wall or similar surface, or any combustible object.
  • Place the stove on a horizontal surface and never move it while it is in operation.
  • In the event of a leak (smell of gas), close all valves. Wait until the device has completely cooled before handling or storing it. After use, always close the valve on the relief valve or gas cylinder.
  • Do not use containers whose diameter is greater than 26 cm or is less than 16 cm. Keep young children away from the appliance, some parts can be very hot.
  • ATTENTION : the appliance must be completely unfolded and assembled, even for the stove function. The safety lever L located on the side of the lid must be in the stop position (lever down) to prevent any unintentional closure of the lid.

In Stove or Grill use, light with the piezoelectric by positioning the adjusting knob at the “ ” position. When using with the Grill, always check that there is water in the water tank. Never operate a grill hotplate at maximum flow rate ( ). Check that the appliance adjusting knobs are in Grill position ( ) after lighting.

Never let the Grill operate (adjusting knob in Grill position) without food for more than the 2 to 3 minutes preheating on pain of damage to the special coating.

400 S and 400 SG models:
When the Grill is in operation, the support on which the unit is standing can get very hot. The unit must not be placed on a combustible surface (plastic, tablecloth, etc.). It is recommended that the unit be placed on a heat- resistant surface (concrete, stone, brick, directly on the ground (earth)). Otherwise, an incombustible, heat-insulating material should be placed between the unit and its support.

  1. STOVE FUNCTION

    • If the appliance is packaged for transport, remove the grill hotplates (models 400 SG and 600 SG), the pan supports and the water compartments.

    • Turn over and refit the pan supports in the use position by pushing the wire anchor points into the holes provided.

    • If the appliance has been used as a Grill, remove the grill hotplates and the water tanks (check that they are cold).
      Lighting

    • Open the gas supply (valve or lever on regulator).

    • Rotate the knob corresponding to the burner anti-clockwise to the maximum flow rate position ( ).

    • Wait 2 to 3 seconds and press the piezoelectric button ( ) several times until the burner lights. If it does not light after 3 tries, position the adjusting knob to “OFF” (•) by rotating it clockwise. Wait 1 minute before repeating the operation.

    • Adjust the flame to the container dimension by positioning the knob to the defined range between ( ) and ( ).

    • In strong winds arrange the appliance so that the lid provides an obstacle to the wind. Furthermore, your appliance has a new patented, high wind performance Campingaz® “xcelerate burner” combined with a pan support (patented) playing the role of 360° windshield.

    • When cooking is finished turn the knob corresponding to the burner clockwise to position (•).

  2. GRILL FUNCTION (400 SG and 600 SG models)
    Note : for the Grill function, the pan supports must be removed from the plate.
    If the appliance has been used as a stove:

    • Remove the pan supports from both burners (check that they are cold).
    • Position the water tank.
    • Put in a maximum of 25 cl of water. The water level must be slightly greater, by 1 to 2 mm, than the height of the form stamped around the burner.
    • Place the grill hotplate on the water compartment, ensuring that it is perfectly stable on the water tank (there is a perfect match between the grill hot plate and the water compartment).

Lighting

  • Open the gas supply (valve or lever on regulator).
  • Rotate the knob corresponding to the burner anti-clockwise to the maximum flow rate position ( ).
  • Wait 2 to 3 seconds and press thepiezoelectric button ( ) several times until  the burner lights. If it does not light after 3 tries, position the adjusting knob to “OFF” (•) by rotating it clockwise. Wait 1 minute before repeating the operation.
    Note : Never place containers on the grill hot plate.

Preheating
Let the grill hotplate preheat for about 3 minutes (knobs in Grill position ( )) to reach the ideal temperature for cooking.

Cooking

  • The grill hotplates are coated with high quality enamel, which allows healthy cooking. Adding a slight film of oil is recommended before any grilling.
  • Because fats are collected in the water tank, cooking is perfectly healthy (no residual or burnt fats) and foods retain all their taste and smoothness.
  • The grill hotplate reaches its maximum temperature (ideal for sealing grills) after about 3 minutes preheating.
  • Arrange the food on the grill hotplate.
  • It is also possible to modulate the intensity of cooking depending on the position of food on the grill hotplate: maximum power in the centre of each burner, more moderate towards the outside.
  • When cooking is finished turn the knob corresponding to the burner clockwise to off position (•).

Switching off

  • Close the regulator or gas cylinder valve.
  • After the flames have gone out, close the stove valves by putting the knobs in off position (•).

REMOVING OR CHANGING THE GAS CYLINDER

  • Check that the gas cylinder valve or regulator lever is in the closed position.
  • Place the adjusting knobs in off position (•) by turning them clockwise.
  • Disconnect the regulator from the gas cylinder.
  • Install the new gas cylinder.
  • Connect the regulator to the new gas cylinder (check the condition of the regulator seal, before connecting it to the gas cylinder).

STORING THE APPLIANCE FOR TRANSPORT

IMPORTANT : Start by removing the gas cylinder, and check that all the valves are in the (•) off position and that the appliance has completely cooled down. 400 SG and 600 SG models

  • If the appliance has been used as a Grill, remove the grill hotplates and the water compartments.
  • If the appliance has been used as a stove, remove the pan supports from both burners.
  • Put the water compartments in place afterhaving emptied and cleaned them as necessary.
  • Turn the pan supports over to be able to insert the starred upper part into the notches in the water compartment.
  • Fit the grill plates so that the pan support wire attachment points pass through the slots in the grill hotplates.
  • Close the appliance lid.

600 SG model only

  • Remove the textile shelf by withdrawing the 4 hooks. Fold the metal frames and roll the textile around the frames.
  • Remove the side shelves: withdraw the screws that hold the shelves. Remove the support wires and place them under each shelf (see figure below).
  • Turn the appliance over and rest it on its lid.
  • Unscrew the 4 feet.
  • Fix the rolled textile shelf to the 2 hook-andloop straps on the underside of the stove body.
  • Put the 4 legs back under the body, proceeding in the reverse order to assembly.
  • Store the side shelves under the stove body. These shelves are held by plastic clamps on the underside of the shelves. Snap the clamps onto the legs on the bottom of the stove.

STORAGE – SERVICING

IN CASE OF BURN BACK (IGNITION UNDER THE BURNER CAP) SWITCH THE PRODUCT OFF, ALLOW IT TO COOL DOWN (APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES), THEN REIGNITE THE APPLIANCE. IF THE PROBLEM OF BURN BACK PERSISTS, THEN PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL CAMPINGAZ® REPRESENTATIVE. ONCE YOUR EQUIPMENT HAS FULLY COOLED.

Appliance
Ensure that your stove is regularly maintained,and it will give you many years of excellent service.

  • Do not clean the stove while it is in operation. Wait for it to cool down, to avoid burning yourself on the hot parts (hotplates, pan supports, burners).
  • Remove the grill hotplates, the water compartment, and drain the water ( Grill function).
  • While cleaning, be careful not to clog the burner holes. If they are clogged, for example by overflowing food, unclog the holes with a non-metallic brush.
  • Clean the greasy parts with soap and water or a non-abrasive detergent. (Do not use scouring pads or abrasive products on the water tray, which is coated with anti-stick coating).
  • For easier cleaning, the grill plates, water tray and saucepan supports can be washed in a dishwasher.
  • Disassemble and clean all parts of the appliance; dry them.
  • “600 SG” model only: the shelves and telescopic legs are stored under the appliance with the fixings provided for this purpose.
  • Remember to protect the lid of the appliance by inserting protective material (paper, cardboard, etc.) between the lid and the grill plates.
  • If the appliance has not been used for over 30 days verify that there are no spider’s webs blocking the burner tube, which can reduce the efficiency of the appliance or cause dangerous combustion of gas outside the burner.
  • Store the packed stove in a dry, well ventilated place.

Flexible hose or hose between the regulator and the stove

  • Check the condition of the piping periodically and change it if it shows signs of ageing or cracks or when national conditions require it.
  • In France, if the expiry date printed on the flexible pipes is reached, the flexible pipe with collars must be replace by an assembly complying with Standard XP D 36-110.
    Follow the assembly instructions supplied with these new assemblies, whose length must be a maximum of 1.50 m, and the procedure described in paragraph B). If you do not plan to use your stove for a long period, disconnect the gas cylinder.

Using and servicing the 600 SG model

  • For your safety: do not put the gas cylinder on the textile shelf or on the metal side shelves. These accessories are reserved for temporary storage of food, plates and kitchen utensils.
  • The textile shelf and the different metal parts of the stand can be washed with water and soap without abrasive products or pads.

Possible problems
The burner does not light up

  • Poor gas supply
  • Regulator not operating properly
  • Pipe, valve, venturi tube or burner holes obstructed

The burner does not burn smoothly or goes out

  • Check that gas is present
  • Check the pipe connection
  • Contact your servicing agent

Unstable blowing flames

  • New cylinder may contain air. Allow the stove to operate and the fault will clear itself
  • Residual water, following the washing of the burner caps
  • Contact your servicing agent.

Large plume of flame on the burner surface

  • The venturi is obstructed (possibly cobwebs). Clean the venturi.
  • Contact your servicing agent.

Flame at the injector

  • The cylinder is almost empty
  • Change the cylinder and the fault will clear itself
  • Contact your servicing agent. burning leak around a connector
  • Shut off the gas supply immediately
  • Leaking connector: tighten nuts or change pipe
  • Contact your servicing agent.

Insufficient heat

  • Injector or venturi tube obstructed
  • Contact your servicing agent. burning leak behind the adjustment knob
  • Defective valve
  • Shut down the stove
  • Contact your servicing agent.
