Preparation for Installation

  1. Before installing this kit, ensure that the helm, steering cable, and steering connection kit are already installed.

Installation Steps

  1. Align the hole in the telescopic stud of the steering cable with the holes in the clevis (item 1), as shown in Figure 1.
  2. Insert the shoulder bolt (item 2) through the aligned holes.
  3. Place the flat washer (item 3) on the threaded end of the shoulder bolt, then thread the locknut (item 4) onto the shoulder bolt. Torque the locknut to a minimum of 150 in. lbs, but do not exceed 200 in. lbs.
  4. Select the proper length shoulder bolt (item 5 or item 6) based on the thickness of the tiller arm. Use item 5 for tiller arms up to 3/8 (9.5 mm) thick, or item 6 for tiller arms up to 3/4 (19 mm) thick. Refer to Figure 2.
  5. Insert the bolt into the hole in the clevis.
  6. Place the washer (item 7) over the bolt, then thread or insert it into the attachment hole in the tiller arm.
  7. Thread on the locknut (item 8) and torque it to a minimum of 300 in. lbs, but do not exceed 400 in. lbs.
  8. If the tiller arm has multiple attachment holes, use the one closest to the motor.

Lubrication and Final Installation

  • Lubricate all moving parts with a coating of lightweight waterproof grease.
  • Ensure that the clevis operates freely and does not cause any interference with the motor or frame. If any interference is noted, it must be eliminated before operating the boat.
  • Check frequently for wear or loosening of hardware. Re-torque if necessary.
  • Keep all parts free of salt buildup or other foreign matter that might inhibit the free movement of parts.

This kit contains parts required to provide a linkage between a boat-mounted steering cable telescopic rod manufactured by Dometic and motor tiller steering arms.

Preparation for installation

  1. Before making installation of this kit, the helm, steering cable, and  steering connection kit must be installed

Installation

  1. Align the hole in the telescopic stud of the steering cable with holes in the clevis (item 1), as shown in figure 1. Insert shoulder bolt (item 2) through aligned holes. Place flat washer (item 3) on threaded end of shoulder bolt, then thread locknut (item 4) onto shoulder bolt. Torque to 150 in. lbs. minimum. Do not exceed 200 in. lbs.
  2. Select the proper length shoulder bolt to suit the engine or tiller arm. Use item 5 for tiller arms up to 3/8” (9.5 mm) thick, or item 6 for tiller arms up to 3/4” (19 mm) thick. Refer to Figure 2.
    Insert the bolt into the hole in clevis. Place washer (item 7) over bolt, then thread or insert into attachment hole in tiller arm. Thread on locknut (item
  1. and torque to 300 in. lbs. minimum. Do not exceed 400 in. lbs
  1. Lubricate moving parts with a coating of lightweight waterproof grease. Installation of the clevis is now complete. Continue with the installation of the steering connection kit.

NOTE
When tiller arm has more than one attachment hole, use the one closest to the motor
