Category 5e
Category 5e cabling still offers a cost effective and reliable solution for
companies looking to support data rates of up to 2.5 Gigabits/sec.
Designed for ease of installation and performance, Ultima Cat5e components
provide a large margin of performance over the standards’ requirements. The
range includes cables, modules, keystone jacks, PCB or modular patch panels
and patch leads, providing complete end-to-end connectivity.
The low profile modules can be mounted in back boxes of just 12mm depth and
are fitted with a spring loaded shutter and hinged label window.
Patch panels offer densities of up to 48 ports in 1U of rack space, maximising
port density without compromising performance or usability.
When installed by an Ultima Certified Installer the Ultima Cat5e cabling can
be protected through the Ultima 25 year system warranty for complete peace of
mind.

Category 6
Supporting data transmission rates of up to 5 Gigabits/sec, Category 6 cabling
offers the perfect compromise between the lower performing Category 5e and the
more expensive but higher performing Category 6A.
The Ultima Cat6 keystone jack has 3P verified component compliant performance,
making it the ideal building block for a modular Cat6 solution, for use in
patch panels and work area outlets. When fitted in the angled keystone
shutter, performance is optimised through better management of cable bend
radii, plus connected equipment cable hangs neatly down the wall. Patch panels
are offered in a variety of configurations, including up to 24 ports in just
0.5U of rack space.

Ultima Cat6 U/UTP LSZH cables are supplied in Reelex II boxes. This patented
method of winding cable results in a reel-less, self-supporting coil. The
unique coil dispenses from the inside-out without twists, tangles, snags or
overruns saving you time and money and reducing waste.
The larger payout hole increases bending radius and payout performance.
Handles fold over multiple layers of cardboard to prevent ripping and the
moisture resistant, plastic laminate coating and burst proof taped joints
ensure boxes withstand everyday handling.

Category 6A cabling the ultimate solution. Its shielded design ensures data
transmission rates of up to 10 Gigabits/sec whilst protecting that data from
electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Ultima Cat6A U/FTP cable combines the small overall diameter and flexibility
of a Cat6 U/UTP cable with the shielding necessary to protect against alien
crosstalk and EMI. Supplied in a 305m box it is easy to pull in whilst its
compact dimensions enable more cables in a given size of containment. With
Force verified link performance when used in conjunction with the Ultima
shielded Cat6A keystone jacks, it’s guaranteed to perform, first time, every
time.

The shielded Cat6A keystone jack, terminated using a standard 110 punchdown
tool or a pair of side cutters, has independently verified component compliant
performance from Europe’s leading test facility, Force in Denmark. Compatible
with a wide range of patch panels and work area outlets it provides a high
performance interface between the cabling and connected equipment. The
integral, hinged shutter ensures that, when used in patch panels and
unshuttered adaptors, unused ports are protected from airborne contaminants,
thus improving network reliability.
Ultima’s shielded Cat6A PCB patch panel offers 24 ports in 1U together with
conventional punchdown terminations. This cost effective panel has shuttered
ports to protect the contacts from airborne contaminants, protected port
labelling and integral cable management.

Plastics and Tools
Ultima offers a range of faceplates and shuttered fascias to suit a variety of
applications.
Keystone angled shutters are ideal for wall outlets and floor boxes,
minimising the depth of back box required. The spring loaded shutter prevents
contamination of the contacts when not in use whilst a protected labelling
facility combines style with functionality. Ultima curved faceplates provide a
modern solution where data cabling must be presented near power outlets and
switches. Available in both white and dark grey they can be used within a Part
M compliant installation where colour contrast between the faceplate and the
surrounding décor is required in order to help the visually impaired. Bevelled
faceplates can be used where back box space is limited and cable bend radii
must be maintained. These provide an additional 5mm of usable depth which
could negate the need to fit deeper back boxes.

A high performing cabling system requires good cable management. We advise 1U
of patch cord management for every 48 patch panel ports. Consideration should
be given to the; · Performance of the cabling system · Diameter and
flexibility of the patch leads · Number of patch leads to be managed
In environments with forced air cooling the management of airflow is important
as leakage of air is inefficient and costly. Ultima blanking and brush strip
panels help to blank off unused portions of rack space whilst, at the same
time, providing adequate routes for cables from the front to the rear of the
rack or cabinet. We also offer a range of vented panels.
Ultima POD boxes are suitable for under floor or under desk applications.
These rugged, versatile units enable cabling to be installed in open plan
areas where there is a high churn of personnel or a frequent re-organising of
the office space.
Floor matting can provide a cost effective solution for sub floor cable routes
where cables must be protected from the concrete slab and the potential risk
of lying in standing water.
Basket matting protects cables running on baskets or trays from sharp edges
and potential long term wear.

Fibre Optic Cabling
Fibre optic cabling enables 10 Gigabit/sec data rates to be transmitted up to 550m on multimode fibre and several kilometres on singlemode fibre.
Singlemode or Multimode Fibre? The decision to use multimode or singlemode
fibre depends on a number of factors, including the amount of data to be
transmitted, the distance over which it must run and the budget available.
Singlemode fibre is relatively cheap, however the cost of the active equipment
on each end is significantly more expensive than that required for multimode
fibre.
Ultima offers OM3 and OM4 multimode fibre and OS2 compliant singlemode fibre.
Ultima’s MTP fibre solution provides a factory terminated, high density, easy
to install cabling
solution for data centres and other high use
environments. Utilising the high performance
MTP connector the trunk cables can be joined
to breakout cables for direct connections or
to a panel mounted cassette that offers a
conventional patching facility. Up to three 48 fibre cassettes can be mounted
in each panel, offering up to 144 fibres in 1U of rack space.
The type of connector used, ST, SC or LC, often depends on the type of connector on the active transmission equipment but the preference should be for LC which combines performance, ease of use and a small form factor that allows up to 96 fibres to be patched in just 1U of rack space.
To minimise optical power losses throughout the cabled infrastructure we
recommend the use of pigtails that are fusion spliced on to the fibre optic

The Ultima System Warranty is a 25 year product and application warranty,
available when the system has been designed, supplied and installed by an
Ultima Certified Installer (UCI).
Ultima Certified Installers An Ultima Certified Installer (UCI) is an
accredited installer fully trained in their relevant product area. All
certified installers hold a valid UCI certificate. Re-certification occurs
every 2 years to ensure a full understanding of the Ultima system and how best
to implement it. Warranty Process The following pages outline the details of

the end user with the process of issuing a warranty and making a claim against

Warranty Process

Ultima Installer Certification This is the first step towards the 25 year
Certification Warranty being achieved.
It is essential that the Ultima Certified
Installer Application Form is completed,
submitted and approved before any
further progress.
We will confirm receipt of your application and if successful you will receive a unique UCI identification number and certificate. Please note that certification is valid for two years only. Re-certification will be required after this time. If certification has already been received and is valid please proceed to step 2.

Warranty Application* On completion of the project the Ultima
Certified Installer (UCI) responsible for
the design and installation of the system
needs to complete a warranty application
form. As part of this application the UCI
will need to provide;
· A completed final site certification
checklist
· Full set of drawings with numbered
outlet locations
· Full and complete test results
showing a pass result for every
horizontal link to be covered by the
warranty. A marginal pass is not
accepted
· Calibration certificate for the test
equipment used
Ultima reserves the right to inspect
the final installation prior to issuing
the warranty.

Warranty Issue If successful a 25 year warranty
certificate will be issued to the end user
via the UCI. The warranty certificate
will be dated from the date of the last
test. The UCI will receive two copies of
the certificate, one to be maintained by
themselves the other to be passed on
to the end user. The certificate will need
to be produced in the event of a future
claim.

The warranty covers components and applications. If a component in any link
fails or the structured/fibre cabling fails to support an application that it
has been tested to carry, then a claim can be made on the warranty.
Please note that patch leads are classed as replaceable items and are excluded
from the warranty.
To qualify, the installation must be made up entirely of Ultima products,
including Draka fibre optic cables. Products must be new at the time of
installation and have been stored and used within reasonable environmental
conditions for such product.
Ultima reserves the right to carry out its own tests on a system before
certifying and registering that system.

Structured Cabling, Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A Warranty
The 25 Year Warranty covers all permanent copper cabling, outlets and jacks
within the horizontal cabling of a Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6A structured cabling
system which has been tested and certified as an Ultima Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6A
system.
All other provisions in our standard terms and conditions shall continue to
apply.
All links must be installed and tested by an Ultima Certified
Installer (UCI) in accordance to Ultima and industry guidelines to qualify for
the warranty.
Certification tests for Cat5e/ Class D, Cat6/Class E or Cat6A/ Class EA must
be carried out on all outlets by the UCI and submitted to Ultima for approval
in order for a system to qualify as a certified system and thus be covered by
the warranty. A suitable copper cabling certifier, as approved by Ultima, must
be used. The results must be sent to Ultima in the form of an email or CD ROM,
utilising the manufacturer’s software.
Copper (Horizontal 4 pair) · 100% of all horizontal
links are to be tested as permanent links · Full results must be submitted for

· Full graph data shall be included in the results (this is set prior to
testing)
· The tester shall be set to the correct cable characteristics (i.e. cable
type and NVP) as per the product’s published specifications
· Do NOT submit duplicate results · The latest tester software and firmware
shall
be installed · The warranty shall be issued against the
standard tested. E.g EN 50173 Class E · Ultima reserves the right to decline
the
warranty if test results are altered in any way

Fibre Optic Warranty
The 25 Year Warranty covers all permanent fibre cabling, adaptors and
connectors within the horizontal cabling of an Ultima fibre cabling system
which has been tested and certified as such in place of the warranty set out
in our current terms and conditions of sale. All other provisions in our
standard terms and conditions shall continue to apply.
· Tier 1 testing must be completed for each link that requires a warranty
· The tester shall be calibrated in accordance with the tester manufacturer’s
requirements.
· Where the date of the results is outside the manufacturer’s calibration
period, the results will not be accepted and the warranty application will be
rejected
· The tester shall be set to the correct fibre characteristics (e.g. Index of
Refraction) as per the product’s published specifications
· Results to be submitted in the original tester format, e.g. LanTEK Reporter
or Fluke Networks LinkWare
· Where testing has been performed by other methods, i.e. Loss Test Set or
individual Light Source and Power Meter, the results must be submitted as a
link loss sheet on letter headed paper and signed by a Director or Senior
Manager of the company
· The test results must show the overall attenuation of the link
· The maximum allowable loss can be worked out using the following table

Ultima warrants the following: 1. All products forming part of a certified
system will be free from
manufacturing defects for a period of 25 years from the date of installation
or invoicing, whichever occurs first, and 2. The installation will satisfy the
transmission performance requirements of the relevant standard as tested at
the time of installation for a period of 25 years from date of installation
provided that:
2.1. The installation is designed and installed in accordance with Ultima
requirements by a current UCI
2.2. The installation is fully tested to the current edition of the relevant
standard and thoroughly documented
2.3. All results and installation details are supplied to Ultima along with
details of any moves and changes

Warranty Claim
In the event that there is a genuine problem with an Ultima warranted system,
the following actions should be taken. In the first instance, the fault(s)
should be reported back to the Ultima Certified Installer (UCI), or to Ultima
directly by the owner or end user if the installer is no longer in existence.
If the UCI is unable to rectify the problem and wishes to make a warranty
claim, an Ultima Warranty Claim must be completed and submitted to Ultima.
An Ultima Engineer may visit the site, if deemed necessary, in order to
investigate further.
If the fault is found, and in the opinion of the Ultima Engineer it is a
genuine fault, then Ultima will at its option: 1) Organise a replacement of
the product, or 2) Repair the faulty product, or 3) Reimburse the user’s
reasonable costs of organising a replacement of, or
repairing the faulty product (including the user’s reasonable costs incurred
in removing and installing/reinstalling the faulty product or its
replacement), or 4) Refund the purchase price of the product at Ultima’s
expense.
Provided that performance of any one of these options shall operate as an
entire discharge of any liability Ultima may have under this warranty.
In all instances the findings of the Ultima Engineer will be deemed absolute.
Ultima reserves the right to request written evidence of any costs incurred in
replacing, repairing, removing or reinstalling faulty products. Ultima will
not accept any consequential loss or damages due to the performance or non-
performance of Ultima products or products supplied by Ultima.
