OLYMPIC U100 Diving Board Resurface Kit

LYMPIC-U100-Diving-Board-Resurface-Kit-fig-1

INTRODUCTION

  • Individual boards are refinished by using CONVOY Diving Board Kits.
  • The kits are packaged for all types of boards and in several colors: U100 White; U101 Blue Ice; U102 Bikini Blue; U103 Turquoise; and U104 Aquamist.
  • Each kit contains the CONVOY, the CONVOY catalyst, a roller cover and solvent (for cleaning equipment). Each kit contains materials sufficient for 25 sq. ft.
  • Heavy-duty SUPER CONVOY will provide excellent results even when exposed to the severest acid, alkali, and chemical conditions. It also may be applied to damp surfaces with good results. It is also highly resistant to moisture-even continuous submersion.
  • SUPER CONVOY is particularly valuable to use for recoating diving boards. It is far more attractive, more sanitary and safer than cocoa matting. Directions for application on all types of surfaces follow.
  • A kit contains the correct amount for recoating one board. Select the color desired from our OLYMPIC CONVOY color card. To patch a worn spot, it is only necessary to “touch it up ” with a brush dipped in CONVOY.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • This SUPER (epoxy) CONVOY is a two-package system. The smaller can contains the catalyst for CONVOY. All CONVOY containers are “short filled” to leave space to add the catalyst. The catalyst is added in the following ratio: To each quart can of CONVOY, add 1/2 pint of catalyst. Stir thoroughly after adding catalyst and wait according to induction schedule for the proper chemical reaction to complete its cycle before application begins. The pot life of this mixture is 4 hours, so do not mix more than can be used in this period. SUPER CONVOY can be applied by brush or roller.
  • The surface must be clean and free from grease and oil. It may be damp but no visible moisture should be evident. If there is water on the surface, it should be dried off before application begins. SUPER (epoxy) CONVOY will age and become harder for 7 days but must have 24 hours drying time before it is opened to traffic.
  • SUPER CONVOY should be well mixed and after following induction schedule on label, should be poured on the surface and rolled our using the special roller cover included in the kit. Apply it on the surface liberally at the rate of 90 to 110 sq. ft. (8.36 to 10.22 sq. meters) per gallon. For necessary thinning (up to 1 pint per gallon) and cleaning of application equipment, use No. 1109 SOLVENT. Only an epoxy solvent will work with SUPER CONVOY. It should be applied on a surface free from oil, grease, wax, dirt, or any other residue. It has perfect adhesion to clean surfaces.
  • Easiest way to remove dirt, oil, wax, etc. from coated surfaces is with a solution of 8 oz. of No. 910 POOL WASHING COMPOUND to each gallon warm water. Each gallon of solution should clean about 200 sq. ft. (18.58 sq. meters) of surface. Always hose or rinse off with clean water.
  • Remove old loose coating (slightly peeling) with an electric buffer equipped with a coarse sanding disc or by hand sanding. Where widespread peeling exists, a complete coating removal job is recommended. On diving boards this can be done with paint remover. On wood, use paint remover or an electric sander. On metal, use paint remover, an electric buffer, or sandblast the surface. Where paint remover is used, the surface must be scrubbed with No. 910 POOL WASHING COMPOUND (described earlier) following the use of the remover. All surfaces, where partial or complete coating removal is done, should be solvent washed to insure good adhesion.
  • When SUPER CONVOY is to be applied over coating which is glossy, this gloss should be removed with sandpaper, steel wool, or by wiping down with one of the paint surface preparations which will flatten the gloss. All bare spots should be primed with the appropriate primer.
  • SUPER CONVOY must not be applied when either the surface or the air temperature is under 50°F (10°C).
  • In hot, dry weather, it may be opened to traffic the next day, but the longer the period of curing, the better. It actually gets harder for 7 days after application.
  • In cool weather (60°F to 70°F) (15.6°C to 21.1°C), it should cure for 3 to 4 days before traffic is permitted on its surface unless it is in a heated area. When applying SUPER CONVOY, the application equipment should be cleaned immediately after use. Once it cures on the equipment, it is almost impossible to remove the coating.
  • The surface should be clean and free from rust, oil, and grease. Remove all loose coating and rust with an electric buffer equipped with a coarse garnet sanding disc, or use our No. 970 RUST REMOVER. Remove oil and grease by washing with solvent. Dry off with clean rags.
  • Oil and grease may also be removed with No. 910 POOL WASHING COMPOUND solution providing it is rinsed with clean water and immediately dried off with rags. Rust may also be removed with our No. 910 RUST REMOVER or other similar products.
  • When the metal is polished or unusually slick, it is difficult for the primer to secure adequate adhesion. For best adhesion, we suggest that these slick surfaces be marred, scratched or scored with coarse emery paper in order to create a “mechanical bond”.

APPLICATION OF FIBERGLASS DIVING BOARDS

  • Sand the fiberglass surface and apply one coat of SUPER CONVOY of a selected color.
  • In coating diving boards, the edges must be masked with masking tape. DO NOT leave tape on until the CONVOY gets too hard or it will be difficult to remove. The edges can then be coated with our epoxy enamel of a selected color.

PHYSICAL DATA

  • SET TO TOUCH: 2 hours at 75°F (23.9°C)
  • DRYING TIME: CONVOY – 24 hours before permitting traffic (depending on temperature)
  • VISCOSITY: Light paste
  • SOLVENT: No. 1109 for SUPER CONVOY
  • COVERAGE: 90 to 110 sq. ft. (8.36 to 10.22 sq. meters) per gallon
CAUTION! – COMBUSTIBLE! Keep away from heat and open flame. Avoid prolonged contact with skin and breathing of vapor. Close container after each use. Areas of body or clothing on contact with uncured resin and/or catalyst should be thoroughly cleaned with solvent and washed with soap and water immediately. Use only where there is adequate ventilation. KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.
    WARNING!
If you scrape or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop.
