  1. The equipment may not cause harmful interference.
  2. The equipment must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

Changes or modifications to this equipment not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. WARNING
The CDx440sc gateway is not certified for hazardous location installation or use. Use of the CDx440sc gateway in a hazardous location could result in death or serious injury.
The CDx440sc gateway is the interface that lets the GS1440 or GS2440EX sensor connect to an SC Controller. Figure 1 gives an overview of the gateway assembly.

Product components

Make sure that all components have been received. Refer to Figure 2. If any items are missing or damaged, contact the manufacturer or a sales representative immediately.

Installation

Install the gateway in a non-hazardous location.
Attach the digital gateway to one of the options that follow:

  • Wall
  • Horizontal channel brackets
  • Horizontal pipe
  • Vertical channel brackets
  • Vertical pipe
Electrical installation

Connect the sensor cables and digital extension cable
This document shows how to connect a GS1440 or GS2440EX sensor that is installed in a non-hazardous location to a CDx440sc gateway.

  1. Connect the Power/4–20 mA sensor cable (3-wires) to the “POWER” terminal.

  2. Connect the RS-232 sensor cable (4-wires) to the “RS232” terminal.

  3. Connect the supplied digital extension cable to the gateway. 

Connect to an SC Controller

  1. Connect the digital extension cable to a digital SC connector of an SC200, SC1000 or SC4500 controller. Retain the connector cap to seal the connector opening in case the digital extension cable must be removed.
  2. If power is set to on when the instrument is connected to the SC Controller:
    • SC200 controller —Select TEST MAINT > SCAN SENSORS.
    • SC1000 controller —Select SYSTEM SETUP > DEVICE MANAGEMENT > SCANNING FOR NEW DEVICES.
    • SC4500 controller —No action is necessary.
Install the cover

NOTICE
Do not use a power tool to tighten the cover screws or the screws will break.

Configuration

Complete the configuration steps in the sensor configuration manual supplied with the gateway.

Maintenance

Clean the instrument
NOTICE
Do not use solvents to clean the instrument.
The instrument is maintenance free. Regular cleaning is not necessary for normal operation. If the exterior of the instrument becomes dirty, wipe the instrument surfaces with a clean, moist cloth.
Remove the cover
Remove the cover as necessary. Use a flat head screwdriver to break the seal as shown.

Troubleshooting

When errors and warnings show on the SC Controller display, refer to the Troubleshooting section of the GS1440, GS2440EX sensor configuration document for more information.
