INTRODUCTION

The EagleEye™ EK-3000 inspection kit contains the EE-365 lamp, a palm-sized, versatile, hands-free light source featuring two ultra-high intensity UV-A LEDs for NDT testing, plus a three-LED white light assembly for general inspection. In addition, the kit contains a unique lamp mount/sprayer that allows the lamp to be mounted together with a penetrant can for single-handed NDT yoke inspection, and an adjustable strap so the lamp can be worn on a helmet or directly on the head for hands-free operation. The EagleEye EK-3000 is ideal for fluorescent magnetic particle and penetrant testing, mining inspection and other specialized applications.

FEATURES

  • Instant-on operation. Reaches full UV-A intensity immediately.
  • 100,000-hour LED service.
  • Built-in fan keeps light source cool to maintain optimum UV-A intensity during extended use.
  • Splash guard with integral particulate filter protects UV-A LEDs and fan from damage.
  • Powered by one rechargeable lithium-ion battery (installed). Provides up to 75 minutes of continuous inspection between charges

The EagleEye EK-3000 also includes one spare battery, a battery-charging cradle with AC and DC cord sets, one replacement splash guard with integral particulate filters, UV-absorbing spectacles, a lanyard and a soft carrying case.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Do not operate the lamp if it has been damaged.
  • Do not look directly into the UV light. Wear UV-absorbing protective eyewear (such as the UVS-30 glasses provided) when operating this or any UV lamp. Never operate the lamp with the UV filter lens removed.
  • Never use this equipment in any manner not specified in these instructions because your protection may be impaired.

CHARGING AND USE
The EagleEye EE-365 lamp is available with a charging cradle and AC and DC cords for charging. See Replacement Parts.

  • Fully charge the batteries before first use.
  • Place one to two batteries in the battery charging cradle (AC and DC cords supplied) and connect the plug to the appropriate power source. The light on the battery charger will show green when charged and red when the battery is low. A full charge for two batteries will take approximately four hours.
  • Turn the knob on the side of the lamp to open the battery compartment. Insert one Li-on battery, positive end down (button to button), and close the compartment. The two charged batteries will serve as backups.
  • The lamp will operate for up to 75 minutes on a fully charged battery. When the green light on the lamp begins blinking from green to red it is time to replace the battery.
  • Press the rocker switch on the opposite side of the lamp (l = white light), (ll = UV light),(O = off).

IMPORTANT
You must wear the UV-absorbing spectacles supplied. The lamp should be used in low-light conditions to achieve the best inspection results.

USING THE LAMP MOUNT/SPRAYER

  • To attach the lamp, pull back the metal clip at the top of the sprayer, slide the lamp onto the mounting bracket, and release the clip.
  • Remove the cap from the penetrant can. Place the jaws of the sprayer above and behind the opening on the can. Squeeze the tabs to attach the sprayer under the first ridge on the can. Do not touch the sprayer’s lever until you are ready to spray.

REPLACING THE SPLASH GUARD
The EagleEye EE-365 lamp comes equipped with two splash guards that are also available in replacement packs. They protect the LEDs from penetrant. In addition, one side of the guard is fitted with a particulate filter that protects the internal fan from foreign matter. To replace it, hold the lamp firmly in one hand and gently pull the splash guard from the top with the fingers of the other hand. Align a new one with the indicators on top next to the white LEDs and press into place.SPECTROLINE-EK-3000-EagleEye-UV-A-White-

REPLACING THE UV LENSES

  • The UV lenses that cover the two UV-A LEDs must be replaced periodically since they will grow cloudy (solarize) over time from repeated use.
  • Remove the splash guard and set it aside.
  • Remove the four Phillips screws in the faceplate and retain them. Remove and set aside the faceplate.
  • Replace the solarized lenses with new ones. Reattach the faceplate with the four screws.
  • Replace the splash guard.

ATTACHING THE LAMP TO THE HEAD STRAP
Adjust the head strap to fit your head or helmet. The adjusting pin on the strap’s mounting bracket has been factory-tightened to hold the lamp firmly in position. Use an Allen wrench to adjust the pin further, if necessary. To attach the lamp to the strap, pull the mounting bracket away from the strap bracket. Pull back the metal clip on the mounting bracket and slide the lamp down onto the bracket. Release the metal clip to secure the lamp. Place the strap and lamp on the helmet, securing the strap under its back lip. Position the lamp by moving it forward and back until the lights are focused on the work surface.

UV INTENSITY VERIFICATION
To ensure that your EagleEye EE-365 lamp is operating at the required UV intensity, it should be checked periodically. The AccuMAXTM XRP-3000 radiometer/photometer kit uses a dual-wavelength UV-A/VIS sensor detector to accurately measure ultraviolet irradiance or visible light. The AccuMAX XR-1000 digital readout unit with the XS-365 UV sensor or the Spectroline DM- 365XA digital readout unit are also recommended for accurate UV-A measurement. The meters are specially designed to measure the UV irradiance from 320–400nm with a peak at 365nm. For more information about these units, please contact the Customer Service Department at Spectro-UV. Call toll-free 1-866-230-7305.

CARE AND USE OF LITHIUM-ION (Li-ion) BATTERIES

  • Do not allow Li-ion batteries to fully discharge frequently, since this will put a strain on the batteries. They will work more efficiently on multiple partial discharges through regular use (every 2-3 weeks), and frequent recharges.
  • The batteries may be left in the battery cradle after charging. The charger automatically cuts the charge when the charge is full.
  • Remove the battery from the lamp and store it separately. Before prolonged storage (30 days or more), charge the battery for at least two hours. Store partially charged for best results.
  • Store in a fairly cool environment away from sunlight, heat and humidity. Store the battery at temperatures between 5 °C and 20 °C (41 °F and 68 °F). NOTE: The battery self-discharge during storage. Higher temperatures (above 20 °C or 68 °F) will reduce the battery storage life.
  • Lithium-ion batteries are subject to disposal and recycling regulations that vary by country and region. Always check and follow your applicable regulations before disposing of any battery.
