flowtoys Linked Cord Connector Kit
CORD CONNECTOR
Cord connectors enable a strong and reliable connection between your flowtoys tubes and leashcord, enabling you to add leash to a variety of tubing-based props, including poi, chucks, rope darts, and more.
FEATURES
- Each cord connector is a custom 3D-printed cylinder with an anti-pinch tapered top, designed for flowcord, paracord and other ~ 6mm cord to be inserted through the connector and secured with a washer and finished knot.
- Each cord connector comes with 2x 2.5mm hex head screws that sit flush in the holes of your flowtoys tubes to secure the connector to your tube.
LINKED CORD CONNECTORS
Linked cord connectors enable you to easily assemble and separate your chucks and meteors for storage and transport.
A linked cord connector kit includes:
- 2x cord connectors with a loop of adjustable paracord
- 4x 2.5mm hex head screws + a 2.5mm hex key
- extra paracord
ASSEMBLING LINKED CORD CONNECTORS
- Lay the 2 separated cord connectors side-by-side.
- Slide the loop over each connector.
- Pull the connectors to create a secure connection.
- You can shorten the length of your loop by shifting the knot inside the connector. Cut off excess cord, and melt the ends of the knot.
- To melt : use a small flame, melt the end of the cord until it reaches the surface of the knot and use a flat metal surface to press the melted end into the sides of the knot, fusing it together and ensuring it cannot come undone! (the side of a lighter works great 🙂
- To install : Use your finger to apply a very small film of petroleum jelly or any other safe grease (lip-balm, hand-lotion, etc.) to the inside of the tube.
- Line up the screw holes on the connector with the holes in your tube. Insert the connector into your lubed tube.
- Install the hex head screws in the two holes in each tube. Be sure not to strip the threads by over-tightening
Note : Holes are intentionally aligned off-center (towards the cord) to create tension and ensure a snug fit.
Note : Be careful not to overtighten or strip the screws. Longer screws might fray and break the cord. Do not use longer screws!
CORD CONNECTOR W/ LEASHES
If you have tubing-based poi, chucks or darts, the cord connectors with leash should already be installed on your prop – you should NOT have to remove them. If you are upgrading old rigs, or need to install new leash to your cord connectors, check out instructions below.
INSTALLING CORD ONTO CORD CONNECTORS
- Melt or tape the end of your ~6mm cord (to prevent fraying). Push and twist the cord to help thread it through the connector.
- Slide a washer onto the end of the cord (you can use pliers to help pull it through).
- Tie a simple overhand knot below the washer – don’t tighten it yet! Check and confirm how long you’d like your leashes to be.
- Once you find your ideal length, tighten the knot, and trim off excess cord with a pair of scissors, leaving 1/8” or 3mm extra to melt.
- Using a small flame, melt the end of the cord until it reaches the surface of the knot and use a flat metal surface to press the melted end into the sides of the knot, fusing it together and ensuring it cannot come undone! (the side of a lighter works great 🙂
- Snug the washer up against the knot.
- If you have vision props, the knot must fit in the connector recess to ensure it doesn’t interfere with the vision core.
INSTALLING CORD CONNECTOR TO TUBE
- Pull the knot and washer up and inside the connector before installing onto your tubes.
- Apply a very small film of petroleum jelly or any other safe grease (lip-balm, hand-lotion, etc.) to the inside of the tube. Insert the connector into your tube. Use a 2.5mm hex key, align the screw holes in the connector with the holes on your tube.
- Once the cord connector is seated in the tube, holes aligned, use the screws provided to secure the cord connector to your tube.
- Be sure not to strip the threads by over-tightening.
Note : Holes are intentionally aligned off-center (towards the cord) to create tension and ensure a snug fit
