UNPACKING
All Models
- Open one end of the carton, attach outrigger feet as shown in Figure 2, invert the speaker and pull the carton off of the loudspeaker.
- Remove all inner packing, including plastic bags, and re-install the grille on the front of the cabinet.
Inspect the loudspeaker for shipping damage. If damage has occurred, notify your Klipsch dealer or the responsible transit company. Retain all packaging for future use.
Floor standing Models
Floor standing models are supplied with foot spikes to enhance performance on carpeted floors.
- Invert the speaker on a carpeted surface and screw the spikes into the threaded bushings in the bottom of the feet. Use caution when turning the speaker upright as the spikes are sharp!
- Use an assistant to lift the speaker into position.
- Adjust individual spike length to level the speaker after positioning.
Bookshelf, Center and Surround Models
These models are supplied with self-stick rubber feet to prevent surface damage. (See Figure 2 for proper application.)
ROOM PLACEMENT
Your Reference loudspeakers will perform well in a variety of locations, but best results will be achieved using the following guidelines:
Front Left and Right Speakers
- Place on a common wall 6 to 15 feet apart.
- If used in a home theater system, position the speakers
- flanking your video display.
- Position them equidistant from the back wall.
- Position them at the same height above the floor (for non-floor standing models) with the high frequency drivers at seated ear height.
- Angle speakers toward the listener and even with or forward of any adjacent obstructions.
- Placing them near a corner or wall provides the greatest
- amount of bass while moving the speakers away from room boundaries reduces bass energy.
- Asymmetrical placement of a pair of speakers from adjacent side walls can smooth room-induced bass unevenness.
- Bookshelf models may be placed on shelves or optional floor stands.
- Experiment with the above guidelines to suit your taste and to compensate for your room’s acoustic characteristics.
Center Channel Speakers
- Place immediately above or below center of your video display.
- These models are supplied with a tilt rod to compensate for placements above or below seated ear height.
- Use the supplied self-stick rubber pads to cover the threaded bushing holes
- (2) if the tilt rod is not used
Surround Channel Speakers
- Place approximately 2 feet above the listening position (Typically this will be
- about 5-7 feet above the floor.)
- The surrounds should be placed on the walls directly adjacent to the listening
- Another option would be on the wall behind the listening position.
- The final surround speaker placement depends on your room’s characteristics.
- Use the attached wall bracket to hook to an appropriately sized screw head
- screwed into a wall stud or wall anchor with a suitable weight bearing
- See your Klipsch dealer for optional, adjustable wall mounts if required.
- These mounts utilize the threaded bushings on the rear of the cabinet.
CAUTION! Never use the attached wall bracket for mounting the speaker to the ceiling!
CONNECTING
CAUTION! Turn your amplifier off before making any connections.
Your loudspeakers are equipped with positive (Red) and negative (Black) connection terminals on the rear of the cabinet. These correspond to the positive and negative terminals on the appropriate channel (left, right, center, rear etc.) of your amplifier.
Standard Connections
- Some Reference speakers come with dual binding posts that are connected by a metal strip. Do not remove this strip or your speakers will not function correctly. Keep this strip in place and connect your speaker wire to the top set of the binding posts. It is possible to “Bi-wire” a speaker that has two sets of binding posts. Please see your receiver’s manual for further instructions.
- All speakers in your system must be connected in phase with the positive speaker terminal connected to the positive amplifier terminal. Repeat this for the negative speaker terminal and amplifier terminals. Most speaker wire has distinguishing markings on the insulation of one of the conductors to assist in correct hookup.
- Use 16 gauge (AWG), two conductor, copper wire at a minimum and larger gauge wire for longer runs. The connection terminals on your loudspeaker will accommodate bare wire, spade terminals or banana type plugs.
- Use either pair of positive and negative terminals keeping the metal coupling straps in place.
CAUTION! With all connection types, take care that there is no contact between the positive and negative terminals at the speaker and amplifier. Damage to your equipment may result!
Bass Management
When using your speakers in a home theater system, consult the owner’s manual of your surround electronics for proper application of bass management settings.
- As a general rule, compact speakers (Bookshelf, Center Channel and Sur-rounds) are set to the “Small,” or bass-limited setting.
- Floor standing speakers are typically set to the “Large,” or full-range setting.
- Also refer to the electronics instructions for adjusting the relative volume levels of the speakers so they are at the same level when in the listening position.
CARE AND CLEANING
- Occasional dusting or wiping of the cabinet with a damp cloth is all that is required. Never use abrasive or solvent type cleaners or harsh detergents.
- A vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment may be used to clean the grille fabric.
- Never spray polishes or cleaners on the drive units (woofers, midranges or tweeters).

Frequently Asked Questions
How high should Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers be?
Furthermore, utilising an average ear height of 91cm to 96.5cm (36-38″) is frequently just as acceptable as measuring the distance from your ears to the floor if more than one person will be listening to the speakers or if you frequently have friends around.
What is the best way to position Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers?
As a general rule, bookshelf speakers should be positioned at the 10 and 2 o’clock positions, with their angles pointed in the direction of your favourite listening position. For best results, place the tweeters at ear level.
How far should you sit from Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers?
For bookshelf speakers, aim for a distance of 4 feet, while for floor-standing speakers, aim for 8 feet. Too close speakers will cause sounds to muddle and merge together. The stereo image will have a gap between the two halves if they are too far away (more on this later).
Can I leave Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers on?
A powered speaker’s overall lifespan will be shortened if it is left on or powered when not in use. When left running or heated, the electronics (amplifier and crossover) will deteriorate more quickly. Random or inadvertent power surges pose a greater risk of damaging a speaker if it is left on.
Can I use Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers for surround sound?
Both passive and powered bookshelf speakers can make excellent front speakers if space is an issue. Bookshelf speakers are frequently utilised as surrounds. Few things can match the expansive bipolar speaker system when it comes to creating the ideal surround sound experience.
Can you put Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers in the wall?
To maximise their overall performance, bookshelf speakers should specifically be positioned two to three feet away from the wall. Bookshelf speakers should be mounted in order for the air supplied through the ports to reach open space as quickly as feasible.
Can you use Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers on a desk?
On your desk is a commonplace place to use bookshelf speakers, particularly the active version. They will look excellent on your desk and sound fantastic whether you use them mostly for music, movies, gaming, or work.
Can I use Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers sideways?
Although it’s not ideal, bookshelf speakers can be positioned on their side. It’s probable that this will have a detrimental effect on sound quality. While not ideal, horizontal positioning might be acceptable if your goal is casual listening. It’s not best to position bookshelf speakers sideways for sound quality.
Are Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers good for music?
Bookshelf speakers can be used for more than simply music. When viewing movies and TV, a pair of decent bookshelf speakers may produce voice clarity and dynamics that are far superior to any TV’s built-in speakers. Many of our suggested models also have a centre speaker that is specifically made to reproduce conversation.
Can I use a Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speaker as center channel?
Generally speaking, using two bookshelf speakers as the centre channel is a bad choice because audio cancellation can happen due to nulls. A line array of three similar speakers can create a more realistic effect when the music pans from side to side, therefore choosing one speaker as the centre channel is acceptable.
What is the difference between satellite and Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers?
By focusing on higher frequencies, satellite speakers enable the overall system to achieve lower sound distortion. More frequencies can be handled by bookshelf speakers. These speakers are full range and come in enclosures with both high- and low-frequency drivers.
Do Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers sound better on stands?
The fact that bookshelf speakers sound best when placed on a stand is no coincidence. This is so that a correctly constructed loudspeaker stand can lift the diminutive box speaker off of surfaces like bookshelves, floors, and walls.
How do you hide Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers?
One common and easy technique to conceal your bookshelf speakers is to place it in a cabinet with a perforated door (or make one yourself). Speakers can frequently be hidden in a cabinet within a bookshelf or media console.
Are Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers stereo?
Bookshelf speakers provide powerful amplification and clear, stereo sound for small to medium-sized spaces. They are bigger than portable speakers but more compact than floor speakers.
What are powered Klipsch RB-61 bookshelf speakers?
Since powered speakers already have an amplifier inside of them, all you need to do is connect them into an electrical outlet to use them. You can directly plug all of your home theatre components into them because they are made with a broad variety of inputs (ports).
