Installation

Mounting is either directly on the top board/channel or on the building wall provided by the customer.
With the VA front-mounted system or the FA façade system, the channel can be ordered with pre assembled rivet nuts and cable bushing.
The installation location of the solar panel must be chosen in such a way that the connector plug is easily accessible, because an external charger can be connected here if necessary.
Installation

  • The solar panel is only suitable for outdoor installation. Never mount it behind glass. Attach the unit such that maximum possible direct sunlight is received. Any shadow formation on the solar panel must be avoided.
  • Ideally, the panel is mounted near the drive. Do not exceed the maximum length of the connection cable of the drive or radio receiver Combio-868 JA DC. Install the solar panel horizontally only.
  • Before mounting, make sure that the end cover with lock-in function and the cover flap are securely positioned on the aluminium profile.

A. Mount both wall brackets according to the following illustration at a distance of 497 mm and 60 mm on as smooth a surface as possible, so that the surface of the panelis perpendicular to the solar irradiation. Before finally fixing, check the position of the drill holes for usability with regard to the ground and load-bearing capacity; if necessary, use screws and dowels that are longer than enclosed. Close the fixing holes of the two wall brackets with the cover caps

  2. Aluminium profile of the energy unit

B. Insert the aluminium profile of the energy unit into the wall bracket.

C. Bring the connection cable on the drive side to the desired dimension; remove the connector plug from the supplied installation bag and attach it to the connection cable of the radio receiver.

Contact assignment of connection socket (QuickConnect connector)
White cable = Pin no. 2
Black cable = Pin no. 4

D. Insert the connection plug into the socket of the energy unit and secure it by screwing it in. NOTE: When the socket is plugged in, the drive or Combio-868 JA DC is live and ready for use!

E. Teaching-in the radio drive or radio receiver Combio-868 JA DC: see instructions for the radio drive / radio receiver.

ATTENTION: Only radio transmitters, which are set in unidirectional operating mode, can be learned into the Combio-868 JA DC radio receiver.

Detect the currently set operating mode of the radio transmitter
(Note: the radio transmitter must not yet be learned in)
: The color of the transmission LED during a button actuation on the radio transmitter indicates which mode the radio transmitter is in:

Transmission LED color Meaning
Orange flashing Radio transmitter is in bidirectional mode
Green luminous Radio transmitter is in unidirectional mode

Change the radio operation mode in the radio transmitter:

Only possible as long as the radio transmitter is not learned into any receiver and at the same time no receiver is in learn-in readiness.

SymbolSwitch the radio transmitter from uni mode to bi-di mode:

Simultaneously press the STOP and PROG buttons on the radio transmitter for approx. 6 seconds → The transmission LED lights up 2x green and 1x red.

SymbolSwitch the radio transmitter from bi-di mode to uni mode:

Press the PROG buttons on the radio transmitter for approx. 6 seconds → The transmission LED flashes orange briefly 3x and then lights up green.

Changing the battery

  1. Unscrew the connection cable of the drive with Quicken connector on the energy unit and pull it out.

  2. Detach the energy unit from wall brackets.

  3. Open the energy unit: On the side with the connection socket, pull out the black cover cap together with the connection socket forcefully, but carefully.

  4. Slide the accumulator together with cables and connection terminals out through the opening downwards.
Caution: Danger due to possible short circuit! Observe the necessary duty of care when handling low electrical voltages!

  5. Disconnect the Wago connection terminals on the accumulator individually and reconnect them correctly electrically after changing the accumulator.

    • Remove the connecting terminal of the red positive pole on the new accumulator.
    • Electrically connect the free red wire of the new accumulator to the positive pole of the 5-pole assigned connection terminal.
    • Remove the connecting terminal of the black negative pole on the new accumulator.
    • Electrically connect the free black wire of the new accumulator to the negative pole of the connecting terminal (connected with black wire) (“black to black”).
    • Use the two remaining terminals of the new accumulator as a fuse against short-circuit on the old accumulator
  6. Carefully push the accumulator together with the cables and connection terminal back into the housing.

  7. Carefully place the end cover on the aluminium profile so that no cables arecrushed and lock it into place.

  8. Insert the energy unit back into both wall brackets

  9.  For optimum efficiency, align the energy unit with the panel surface asperpendicular as possible to the direction of the incoming solar rays.

  10. Re-insert the connection plug of the drive-side (or elero Combio-868 JA DC-side)connection cable into the socket of the energy unit and screw it down. Drive isfunctional again. Maximum storage of the battery before the first charge: 6 monthsat 20 °C. After that, the integrated battery is discharged. Maximum storage of thebattery before the first charge: 6 months at 20 °C. After that, the integrated batteryis discharged.

Cleaning

**** Clean the energy unit regularly with a little water and a soft cloth to achieve good efficiency. Remove snow and ice in winter.

Disposal / notes on environmental protection

**** Electrical and electronic devices must not be disposed of with household waste.
The consumer is legally obligated to return electrical and electronic equipment as well as batteries/accumulators at the end of their service life to the public collection points set up for this purpose, or to the point of sale. Details are regulated by the respective national law. The symbol on the product, the instructions for use or the packaging refers to these regulations. After the last use, disconnect the accumulator from the housing and secure it against a possible short-circuit. You are making an important contribution towards protecting our environment with recycling, material recovery or other forms of recovery of waste equipment/batteries.

Installation instructions and improvement of the solar yield

  1. Roof overhangs or similar superstructures
Note that the solar panel has an unobstructed orientation to the sky. We recommend an overhang to the solar panel less than twice the roof distance.
    Installation instructions

  2. Obstacles opposite the solar panel
Obstacles directly opposite the solar panel also reduce the solar yield of the system. For sufficient charging performance, we recommend a free viewing angle to the sky, but a minimum distance to obstacles according to the adjacent drawing.
    Installation instructions

  3. Restricted view of the sky
Obstacles and overhangs often occur in combination. In such a case, make sure that the clear viewing angle to the sky is at least° 60.
    Installation instructions

  4. Move the solar panel to the front of the building
If there is too much overhang, e.g. due to a balcony, you can move the panel to the front edge of the balcony
    Installation instructions

Battery pack

**** Warning of hazards from charging accumulators.
Failure to observe the following instructions may result in the battery pack catching fire or exploding

  • Use the battery pack only for the intended application.
  • Protect the battery pack from heat.
  • Protect the battery pack from water.
  • Do not charge or use dropped or damaged battery packs.
  • Do not connect the positive and negative terminals of the battery pack to metallic objects.
  • Do not open the casing of the battery pack or make any modifications to the battery pack.

The battery pack loses its performance after prolonged operation or frequent discharging.

The service life of a battery can only be determined precisely if all marginal parameters such as temperature, discharge cycles, level of charge are known. As a rough guideline, we assume about 500 charging cycles or 5 years of service life. Even after 5 years, the battery is not “defunct”; but it has lost some of its storage capacity. Even after 5 years, we expect a residual capacity of at least 50%, which is sufficient for the safe operation of a commercially available sun protection product with a correctly installed solar panel.

Disposal

**** Waste equipment must not be disposed of with household waste!

  • Dispose of packaging material in the collection containers for cardboard, paper.
  • Dispose of the accumulator in an environmentally friendly manner at recycling centres.
  • Dispose of waste equipment through a collection point for electronic waste.
