Product Information

The product is a radon test kit used to measure the levels of radon gas in a home. Radon is a colorless and odorless gas that can be harmful to human health when accumulated in high concentrations. The test kit consists of a canister that needs to be placed in an appropriate testing location within the home. It covers an area of 2,000 square feet per foundation level of the home.

• The test kit should be exposed for a period of 2 to 6 days (48 to 144 hours) to accurately measure the radon levels.
• It is important to note that the test canister has a shelf life of one year from the shipment date.

Product Usage Instructions

1. Determine an appropriate testing location and testing period:
   • For a screening test, locate the canister in the lowest livable level of the home, such as a concrete basement, playroom, or family room. If there is no basement or the basement has an earthen floor, place the canister on the first livable level.
   • Place the canister on a table or shelf at least 20 inches off the floor, at least 4 inches away from other objects, at least 1 foot away from exterior walls, and at least 36 inches from any doors, windows, or other openings to the outside. If suspended from the ceiling, it should be in the general breathing zone.
2. Performing the test:
   • For twelve hours prior to the test and throughout the entire test period, keep all windows and doors in the home closed, except for normal entrance and exit through the doors. Heating and centralair systems can be used, but not room air conditioners, attic fans, fireplaces, or wood stoves.
   • Remove the vinyl tape from around the canister and remove the top lid. Save the tape and top lid for later use.
   • Place the canister, open face up, in the chosen testing location.
   • Record the start date and start time on the reverse side of the provided sheet. Circle AM or PM to indicate the correct time.
   • Leave the test canister undisturbed during the entire testing period.
   • After the appropriate testing period (48-144 hours), place the top lid back on the canister and seal the seam with the saved vinyl tape. This sealing step is necessary for a valid test.
   • Record the stop date and stop time on the reverse side of the provided sheet. Circle AM or PM to indicate the correct time.
   • Completely fill out all other required information on the reverse side of the provided sheet. Failure to do so will prohibit analysis.
   • Place the test canister along with the data from inside the provided mailing envelope and mail it to the laboratory for analysis within one day after stopping the test. The test canister must be received by the laboratory within 6 days after the test has stopped, no later than 12 noon, for the test to be valid. Keep a copy of your test canister ID number for future reference.

RADON TEST INSTRUCTIONS

Please read these instructions carefully BEFORE proceeding with the radon test.

DETERMINE AN APPROPRIATE TESTING LOCATION AND TESTING PERIOD

• To conduct a screening test, locate the canister in the lowest livable level of the home – that is, the lowest level of the home that is used or could be used, as living space (a concrete basement, playroom, family room). If there is no basement, or the basement has an earthen floor, locate the canister on the first livable level.
• DO NOT place the canister in a: bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, porch, crawl space, closet, drawer, cupboard, or other enclosed space.
• Test kits should NOT be placed in areas exposed to direct sunlight, high heat, high humidity, or near sump pumps or drains.
• The test should NOT be performed in severe weather conditions such as high winds, hurricanes, or rainstorms.
• Within the selected room, be sure that the canister is away from noticeable drafts, windows, and fireplaces. The canister should be placed on a table or shelf at a distance of at least 20 inches off the floor, at least 4 inches away from other objects, at least 1 foot away from exterior walls, AND at least 36 inches from any doors, windows, or other openings to the outside. If suspended from the ceiling, it should be in the general breathing zone.
• The test kit will cover an area of 2,000 square feet per foundation level of the home.

TEST KITS SHOULD BE EXPOSED FOR A PERIOD OF 2 – 6 DAYS (48 – 144 HOURS)

NOTE: The MINIMUM EXPOSURE IS 48 HOURS (2 days in hours) and the MAXIMUM EXPOSURE IS 144 HOURS (6 days in hours).

PERFORMING THE TES T

1. CLOSED HOUSE CONDITIONS: For twelve hours prior to the test, and all during the test period, ALL windows and doors in the entire home must be kept closed, except for the normal entrance and exit through the doors. Heating and central air systems may be used, but not room air conditioners, attic fans, fireplaces or wood stoves.
2. Remove the vinyl tape from around the canister and remove the top lid. SAVE THE TAPE AND TOP LID
3. Place the canister, open face up, in an appropriate testing location (see above).
4. RECORD THE START DATE AND START TIME ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THIS SHEET. (Remember to circle AM or PM on your start time because the correct time will factor into the final radon calculation)
5. Leave the test canister undisturbed during the testing period.
6. After the test canister has been exposed for the proper amount of time (48-144 hours), place the top lid back on the canister and seal the seam with the original vinyl tape that you saved from Step #2. Sealing the canister with the original vinyl tape is required for a valid test.
7. RECORD THE STOP DATE AND STOP TIME ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THIS SHEET. (Remember to circle AM or PM on your stop time because the correct time will factor into the final radon calculation)
8. COMPLETELY fill out all other information on the reverse side of this sheet. FAILURE TO DO SO PROHIBITS ANALYSIS!
9. Place the test canister along with this data form inside your mailing envelope and MAIL it WITHIN ONE DAY to the laboratory for analysis. We must receive your test canister within 6 days after the stop of your test, no later than 12 noon, for the test to be valid. Remember to keep a copy of your test canister ID number for future reference.

THE LABORATORY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVICES RECEIVED LATE OR DAMAGED IN SHIPMENT!
The shelf life of the test canister expires one year after the shipment date.
