Product Usage Instructions

Filling the Sampler

  1. Remove the sampler from the resealable pouch.

  2. With the back of the sampler facing upward and the metal clip oriented to the left, remove the plug from the sample sorbent compartment (on the left side, immediately above diffusion holes).

  3. Align the funnel (Cat. No. 690-301) over the compartment access port on the sampler and press down firmly. Ensure the funnel is securely installed on the access port. If the funnel does not sit properly, the sorbent will not fill the sampler.

  4. Open one vial of selected sorbent.

  5. Slowly pour small amounts of the sorbent into the funnel.
Note : If sorbent starts to back up into the funnel, lift the funnel and housing as one unit and gently tap against a hard surface until the funnel clears. Do not lift the funnel until the sorbent is completely transferred into the housing.

  6. Repeat until all sorbent has been transferred from the vial into the housing compartment.

  7. Once all sorbent has been transferred from the vial, remove the funnel and replace the plug on the compartment access port.

  8. If a blank/correction is required, remove the plug from the blank/correction compartment (on the right side, immediately above the SKC cover).

  9. Repeat Step 3.

  10. Open the second vial and repeat Steps 4a and 4b.

  11. Once the sampler has been filled, remove the funnel and replace the plug on the compartment access port.

Sampling

  1. Clip the sampler(s) in the appropriate location.
    • Indoors: Clip the sampler(s) to the stand accessory (Cat. No. 690-302) and locate it at the appropriate height.
    • Outdoors: Clip the sampler(s) inside a shelter (open on two ends and bottom to allow air to flow freely). Hang the shelter securely at the appropriate height. Ensure diffusion holes in the sampler are not obstructed in any way.
  2. Start sampling: Slide the sampler cover to the open position (diffusion holes visible). Write the sample start time on the pouch label.
  3. Stop sampling: Slide the sampler cover to the closed position (arrow and SKC visible). Write the sample stop time on the pouch label.
  4. Important: Measure and record ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. Include this information when sending samples to the laboratory.
  5. a. Place the sampler in its resealable pouch immediately after sampling.
  6. Or
  7. b. Remove the plug from the sample sorbent compartment.

Applications

SKC patented* user-filled ULTRAO Passive Sampler provides for low ppb to ppt detection of organic vapors in ambient and indoor air. Filling the sampler is simple and provides a wide variety of sorbent options and a longer shelf-life. U.S. Patent No. 6,607,581

Performance Profile

    a. Slowly pour small amounts Of the sorbent into the funnel. Note: If sorbent starts to back up into the funnel, lift the funnel and housing as one unit and gently tap against a hard surface until funnel clears. ! DO not lift funnel until sorbent is completely transferred into housing. b. Repeat until all sorbent has been transferred from the vial into the housing compartment.

  5. Once all sorbent has been transferred from the vial, remove the funnel, and replace the plug on the compartment access port.

Sampler

  1. Clip sampler(s) in appropriate location.
    a. Indoors: Clip sampler(s) to stand accessory (Cat. NO. 690-302) and locate at the appropriate height.
    b. Outdoors: Clip sampler(s) inside the shelter (open on two ends and bottom to allow air to flow freely). Hang shelter securely at the appropriate height. ! Ensure diffusion holes in the sampler are not obstructed in any way.

  2. Start sampling: Slide sampler cover to open position (diffusion holes visible). Write sample start time on pouch label.

  3. Stop sampling: Slide the sampler cover to the closed position (arrow and SKC visible). Write sample stop time on pouch label. Important: Measure and record ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. Include in information sent to the laboratory

  4. a. Place the sampler in its resealable pouch immediately after sampling. Or
    b. Remove the plug from the sample sorbent compartment. Remove lid from the sorbent vial and place the opening Of the sorbent vial over the compartment access port. Transfer sorbent to the vial by tipping the sampler upside down while holding the vial in place sæcurely beneath the sampler. Gently tap the sampler to remove any remaining sorbent. Replace lid on the sorbent vial and place vial in a resealable pouch. Repeat for blank/correction sorbent.
Ensure the sample ID on the sampler or vial matches the sample ID on the pouch.

  5. Seal pouch(es). Place pouch(es) in a container with a cool pack.

  6. Use expedited shipping to send sample(s), pertinent information, and Chain Of Custody form(s) to a laboratory for analysis.
