INTRODUCTION

Formaldehyde (HCHO) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are certainly the most common and the most dangerous substance groups with regard to indoor air exposure. For this reason, both HCHO concentration and VOC level indications are shown in real time simultaneously, to ensure the room air is harmless.
What is HCHO?
HCHO (Formaldehyde) is a colorless, flammable, strong-smelling chemical that is used in building materials and to produce many household products from furniture to cosmetics, it is present everywhere. Formaldehyde also occurs naturally in the environment. It is produced in small amounts by most living organisms as part of normal metabolic processes. At low levels, breathing in HCHO can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation. At higher levels, Formaldehyde exposure can cause skin rashes, shortness of breath, wheezing, and changes in lung function.
What is VOC?
VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) are gases that are emitted into the air from products or processes, which may be harmful by themselves, including some that cause cancer. In addition, they can react with other gases and form other air pollutants after they are in the air. Example of air pollutants (and their sources) include Acetone (paints, solvent, glues), Toluene (furniture, mattresses, building products), Ethanol (alcohol, cleaner, perfumes), odors (rotten food, farts, feces, pee), Benzenes (cigarette smoke, engine exhaust), etc.
Swiss sensor technology
The device comes with Swiss-made SENSIRION HCHO SFA series and VOC level SGP series sensors designed for air quality applications.
Multi-zone feature
Through our multi-zone technologies, each device has a unique device code with a user-selectable channel number. Up to 4 separate air quality sensors can be placed in open proximity covering an area across a 100m radius from its main display unit (to be purchased separately).
Low maintenance
The robust sensor has a lifetime of 6 years due to its advanced anti-dry technology, thus avoiding problems related to sensor drift or malfunction.

DISPLAY MODE

From the current HCHO value, the user may press the [MODE] key to view the 1-hour, 8-hour, or 24-hour average readings.BRESSER-7009978-HCHO-VOC-Sensor-
FIG-9VOC level is expressed by the number of leaves inversely proportional to the level of air pollutants. i.e. higher the pollutants, the less the number of leave.

MEASUREMENT INTERVAL AND HCHO DISPLAY UNIT

Powered by DC adapter
The device measures HCHO and VOC concentration every minute automatically when powered with a DC adapter.
Manual detection
Users can press the [ CHECK ] key anytime to get an updated measurement of HCHO and concentration readings and VOC level updates.
Operated by batteries
When powered by batteries, it’s detecting every 10 minutes by default. To maximize the battery life, the user can also change the detection interval from 10 minutes to 20 or 30 minutes.

Detection interval (Minute) Description
1(when connected to DC power) The sensor will detect the value every 1 minute
10 (default) The sensor will detect the value every 10 minutes
20 The sensor will detect the value every 20 minutes
30 The sensor will detect the value every 30 minutes

Note:
When performing a manual check under battery operation, it may take up to 2 minutes to
detect the final reading as indicated by blinking HCHO and VOC icons.

Setting default measurement interval and HCHO display unit
Follow the below step to set the measurement interval and HCHO display unit.BRESSER-7009978-HCHO-VOC-Sensor-FIG-14BRESSER-7009978-HCHO-VOC-Sensor-FIG-6 HCHO AND VOC LEVEL CONCENTRATION

The following provides some description and effect for reference purposes:

HOHO Description Effect
0 ~ 25ppb Excellent air quality level No irritation or impairment of well-

being.
26 ~ 250ppb| Acceptable air quality level| Different levels of irritation or impairment of well-being, are possible in case of interaction with other exposure parameters.
251 ~ 1000ppb| Bad indoor air quality level
Hi| Dangerous levels and prolonged exposure must be avoided.|

Note:
Always consult/check with your doctors for any medical advice concerning the air quality and your health.

BATTERY POWER STATUS

BRESSER-7009978-HCHO-VOC-Sensor-
FIG-10

When battery power fails to below 20%, the user should recharge the batteries by connecting to a USB port using the cable provided.

Note:

  • When the battery power is below 20%, its detection function will be temporarily suspended.
  • Recommend using the USB DC power for continuous air monitoring.

CHARGING BATTERY

You can use the micro USB cable to charge this sensor if the battery states show “Low battery”. When the Micro USB port plugs into the micro USB cable for charging, the LCD will display and flash the battery icon.

Note:
Charged to full capacity from <20% battery power status requires 24 hours.
REPLACE THE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

Over time, the batteries may degrade in terms of holding the highest capacity for which it was designed. If you find the device’s battery power is not lasting as it used to be, it’s probably a good time to change them.

  1. Unscrew and remove the battery door of the sensor with a screwdriver.
  2. Pull the black ribbon lying under the batteries. All batteries can be removed together.
  3. Insert new 3 x AA size rechargeable batteries into the battery compartment according to the polarity mark inside the battery compartment.
  4. Screw the battery door compartment on tightly.
  5. After inserting batteries, all LCD segments will be shown for 1 second.

Note:
Please prepare a screwdriver for removing and closing the battery door.
PAIRING WIRELESS SENSORS TO CONSOLE DISPLAY

This Wireless HCHO with VOC level air quality sensor can connect to the Air Quality Display console.

  1. After powering up the wireless air quality sensor, it will automatically enter registration mode for 10 minutes until which it can be paired with the display console.
  2. Once the connection is successful, the signal strength indication and HCHO value, and VOC level information will appear on the display console.

Note:

  • If you need to re-assign the sensor channel, slide the channel slide switch to the new channel position, then use a pin to press the [ RESET ] key to restart the sensor.
  • To avoid the sensor(s) and console pairing failure during the new channel number assigned and setup, please power up the sensor(s) first, and then press the [ SENSOR ] key on the main unit.
  • After connecting to the console display, the reading will transmit every 12 seconds in the first 5 minutes. Every reading transmission, the symbol of signal transmission, will flash 0.5 seconds at once.

VIEW DATA ON THE CONSOLE

You can view the readings of your wireless HCHO with VOC level air quality sensor(s) on the console receiver to which the sensor(s) is linked to. Readings can then be analyzed into averages of the past 1 hour or 24 hours and maximums of the past 1 hour, 24 hours, or since its last reset.

DATA TRANSMISSION

The device transmits its updated reading at a fixed interval of 60 seconds to the paired
console receiver.

RESET THE SENSOR

In case of malfunction, use a pin to press the [ RESET ] key to reset the sensor.

SENSOR INSTALLATION

The sensor is designed for desktop or wall mount for easy viewing. Follow the guidelines
below for the sensor placement.

  1. Choose an open area away from any emissions source of pollutants, heat source, or with airflow greater than 1m/s.
  2. Place this wireless sensor at least 1.5m to 2m above the ground to better illustrate the detection of air quality in the human breathing zone.
  3. Do not expose the sensor to direct sunlight.

Wall mounting
The sensor can be mounted on the wall at a different angle, either at a slant angle or vertically with the mounting adapter (included)

Place a screw on the wall where you wish to hang the sensor. Hang the sensor onto the screw with or without the mounting adaptor.

Note:
Higher siting may also be appropriate if the sensor is representative of a large area.
