AUTOMATIC WATCHES

An automatic or self-winding watch is a mechanical watch in which the mainspring is wound automatically as a result of the natural motion of the wearer’s arm, making regular manual winding unnecessary. The winding of the automatic mechanism depends on the intensity of your movements. When you receive the watch for the first time it may not be running. This is because the watch has no power to operate. The watch must be given an initial manual wind with 15 to 20 turns of the crown and then while the watch is worn it will wind itself and maintain the correct time. When setting the time please ensure the hands only move in a clockwise direction to avoid damage. The accuracy tolerance of our automatic movements is -40 to +40 seconds per day, worn under normal conditions.

AUTOMATIC WATCH POWER RESERVE

In order to maintain power the watch may be taken off the wrist for a maximum period of 30 hours. If this period is exceeded the movement will stop and another manual wind will be necessary. It must be remembered that if the watch is worn while sleeping the movement of the wrist is insufficient to maintain the automatic winding function.

Caution: Do not overwind your watch as this may cause damage to the movement.

AUTOMATIC 3 HAND DAY/BIG DATE/MONTH WITH EXPOSED MECHANISM

(18) – Date calendar
(M) – Month calendar
(Day) – Weekday calendar
(EM) – Exposed Mechanism
(1) – Date adjust
(2) – Month adjust
(3) – Day adjust (recessed button, use a pointed object to adjust)
(a) – Normal running and manual winding position (turn clockwise)
(b) – Hand-setting

  • To achieve an accurate date setting, press button 1 until a date prior to the date required is achieved, i.e if today is 16th then set it onto 15th
  • To achieve an accurate day setting, using a pointed device, press button 3 until a day prior to the day you required is achieved, if today is Wednesday then set it onto Tuesday.
  • Press button 2 to set the correct month.
  • Now pull the crown out to position b and rotate anti-clockwise until the day and date are correctly set, continue to rotate further to set the hands to correct time, making sure it is correctly set to AM & PM.

SETTING THE DATE

To ensure that the date indicator jumps to the next day at midnight (and not at 12h noon), set the date first to the previous day then forward the hands until the date jumps. Now you know that the hands are positioned at midnight and you can set the hands to the correct (a.m. or p.m.) time. Note: The date is changed during the period between 6:00pm and 6:00am. Do not set the day or date between these times as it will not alter correctly on the following day and it may cause damage to the movement.

WATER RESISTANCE

All Ingersoll models have a water resistant construction and are individually tested. Check the water resistance level of the watch before submerging into water. To maintain water resistance the crown and buttons must be fully pushed into the case and not operated when in contact with water. Water resistance is not permanent. In the course of time, the gaskets of the case and crown may become worn and may reduce the water resistance of your watch. Slight shocks applied to the crown or rapid temperature changes can damage the seals and impair the water resistance. We recommend periodic checking. Fogging of glass may not necessarily indicate the entry of moisture, it can also be caused by extreme temperature changes. If this occurs, it is highly recommended to check with an Ingersoll approved specialist

Level of water resistance| Can withstand accidental splashing| Suitable for swimming| Suitable poolside diving| Suitable for snorkelling or water sports| Suitable for high board diving or sub-aqua diving
---|---|---|---|---|---

5ATM 50m| | | | |
10ATM 100m| | | | |

WATCH CARE

  • Clean your watch with a so cloth and water only.

  • Do not submerge your watch under water unless it has the required level of water resistance.

  • After saltwater use, rinse watch under tap and wipe dry with a
    soft cloth.

  • Metal bracelets should be cleaned periodically. Clean with a so brush dipped in mild soapy water and dry thoroughly with a so cloth.

  • We advise having your timepiece serviced every 18 – 24 months by an Ingersoll approved specialist.

PRECAUTIONS

There are certain actions or environmental situations that may damage or impede the ability of your timepiece to perform optimally. It is important to avoid the following conditions: extreme heat or cold, as well as prolonged periods of exposure to direct sunlight, exposure to wet conditions that exceed the water resistance rating of your timepiece. Your timepiece should not be affected by magnetic fields generated by household items such as televisions and stereos, but it is recommended to avoid powerful electric fields or static electricity, which may interfere with the mechanism. It is also important to avoid extreme shock or impact.
