PARTS LIST

  • For Rabbit and Golf:
  • 1 front resonator section
  • 1 mid muffler inlet pipe
  • 1 mid muffler section
  • 1 mid muffler outlet pipe
  • 1 tailpipe section
  • 1 y-pipe
  • 2 3.15” (80mm) exhaust tip
  • 2 2.25” T-Bolt clamp
  • 5 2.5” (63.5mm) Accu-Seal band clamp
  • 2 hanger post clamp
  • 1 9/64” allen wrench (for hanger post clamp)

Step 1

Remove the factory cat back exhaust system. Please note that the sleeve clamp between the downpipe and the cat back exhaust is re-used when installing the AWE Tuning exhaust **(at Arrow A inFigure 1).

**

If you intend to install an AWE Tuning High Flow Downpipe or any other brand downpipe at the same time as your cat back exhaust system, it is recommended that you install the downpipe first to make cat back exhaust alignment easier.

Step 2

Once the exhaust system is properly adjusted, install a hanger post clamp on each of the hanger posts, as shown at arrow in **Figure 2.

**

Slide the clamp onto the hanger post so that it sits snug against the rubber element, and then tighten down with the enclosed allen wrench.

These clamps will keep the exhaust from sliding laterally under usage and will keep the tips properly aligned in the valence openings. Set final tip rotation, stagger, and overall length, and then tighten their T-bolt clamps.

Please note that all stainless steel exhaust systems will “grow” in length approximately 1” when fully warmed up, and you may want to adjust the tip lengths at this time in anticipation of this growth.

Step 3

For the best tip fitment, align the barrel style tip clamp to cover only the slot, shown by Arrow A Torque the tip clamp to 18 ft./lbs.

NOTES:

  • It is required to apply anti-seize to the threads to prevent thread binding, shown by Arrow B

  • It is okay to have the clamp extend beyond the edge of the tip inlet.

TROULESHTOOTING

Issue Solution
Exhaust is not fitting correctly Most fitment issues are due to improperly

adjusted exhaust. Thisincludes tip fitments and rattling due to chassis contact. Checkout our fitment guide for more installation tips.
Incorrect or missing parts| Double check the parts list for your system and compare themwith what you received. Fill out our contact form, found belowand let us know what parts you need.

CARE

Once installed properly, your AWE exhaust will provide years of trouble-free performance. The exhaust volume and sound will settle with usage; 800-1000 miles is required to break-in new exhaust systems.

Also, please note that the rear 180Technology® resonator has a small drain hole to allow condensation to escape. Water drops from this area are normal.

Periodic cleaning of exhaust tips is necessary to maintain proper finish, especially in areas prone to road salt and caustic deicing solutions. Use a mild soap and water solution or car wax to clean the finish. Avoid using abrasive polishes, as they can scratch the finish.
