A smart home is a better home
At IKEA, we give you the choice of fantastic new technology combined with a furniture function and style. It’s home furnishing in a smart way.
Smart solutions with home at the heart
At IKEA, we have a long history of making clever solutions for a better
everyday life. A smart home from IKEA can do just that by blending technology
into home furnishings. Making life at home more convenient, safe, fun – and
more you.
The really clever part is that you decide how smart you want your everyday
life to be. You can control everything in our app, or you can manage your
smart products with a range of physical remote controls. It’s your home, your
choice.
Imagine if you could wake up every day in a slightly calmer and more
comfortable way.
Automatically turn on a dimmed light, and roll up the blinds to let the
morning sunshine in while your favourite music flows out of the speakers –
without having to get out of bed. It may sound like magic, but with the smart
home range from IKEA, it quickly and
easily becomes your new reality.
How to get started
You could start with one kind of smart product, such as lighting or blinds. Or
think wider about your life at home and let different products work together.
Maybe you would like to improve your sleep routine, family mealtimes, or home
theatre set-up.
The good thing with smart products is that you can start small and add more
over time. Choose if you want to start out with a hub and app to manage your
products – or add that later.
With hub and app
DIRIGERA hub is the heart of a smart home as it enables you to connect and
control your smart products in the IKEA Home smart app.
Discover more features and functions of your smart home in the app with
different kinds of smart products working together.
With remote controls
Many of our smart products can be used without connecting them to the hub and
app.
You can control multiple lights or blinds with one remote. See pages 5 and 12 to learn more about the difference between
As the hub connects to your Wi-Fi router, both smart products and the app will receive updates and continuously get even smarter – at no cost.
connected and non-connected smart products – how they work and how you can control them.
Different ways to control your smart home
When it comes to control, we think of everyone, from young to old and even visitors. So while the app gives you total control to customise your smart home, our range of remotes makes it easy for everyone to live with and use a smart home.
Remote controls
Use a remote to control either one product or groups of several products at
the same time. With a shortcut button, you can combine and control groups of
different products, in a ‘scene’.
The remotes are also easy to use for your friends and family when they come to
visit. We even have splashproof remotes suitable for wet areas such as
kitchen, bathroom or laundry area.
Motion
Automatic control triggered by motion makes the home feel safer and more
comfortable. Use it to turn the lights on in dark spaces, such as the walk to
the bathroom in the night, or in places where your hands are often full, like
near the front door, in the stairways, storage, or laundry areas. It’s also an
idea for the wardrobe, turning the built-in lights on when you open it.
The app
With the IKEA Home smart app, you always have full access and control of all
your smart products, organised in ‘rooms’. You add the rooms you want, and
personalise them with a name and colour. In this way, the app reflects your
home, making it fast and simple to see and control what’s going on.
Voice
Control your smart products with your voice. Super convenient if both hands
are occupied with something else or the room is dark.
Works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri through integrations in the IKEA
Home smart app.
Smart is choosing what works for you
Smart products are a great complement to everyday life at home. Use this overview below to understand the opportunities each set-up provides and learn how smart products can harmonise with your home for an even better everyday life.

Products in the smart home range
Smart lighting
We have light sources with different fittings in white, shades of white or
colour and white spectrum. All are dimmable, and many can change light
temperature or colour.
Smart controls
A wireless control outlet has many uses.
You could add a favourite old lamp, holiday lights, fans and other small
appliances to your smart home. Control it with a remote or the app.
Smart blinds
Create the atmosphere or level of privacy you want from the comfort of your
sofa using a blinds remote or the app. Choose from sheer or block-out blinds,
depending on your needs.
Smart speakers
When IKEA and Sonos collaborate, you can be sure of speakers that sound as
good as they look. Available in different forms, including bookshelf, floor
and table lamps, as well as a picture frame with swappable picture panels.
SYMFONISK Wi-Fi speakers can be used alone, as a stereo pair, as part of your
home theatre set-up, or multi-room sound system with other Sonos and SYMFONISK
speakers.
Smart air
Our air purifiers prove that serious technology doesn’t have to look technical
or take up valuable space. And to gain more insight into the air you breathe,
check out our standalone sensors and air quality accessories. The STARKVIND
table can filter away 99.5 percent of smaller airborne particles in rooms up
to 2 m2.
When you improve the IQ of your home, life itself runs smoother
The idea with DIRIGERA hub and the IKEA Home smart app is to make life at home
feel smoother and more comfortable – from waking up until it’s time to unwind.
You can choose the features and functions that feel most important to you, add
more smart products whenever you like and create the perfect atmosphere for
all hours of the day. This is everyday life, a little bit smarter!
Cooking
A busy kitchen needs task lighting. Add some music for happy cooking and an
air purifier to support the cooker hood in removing odours and fine particles
from grilling or frying.
Eating
Dinner is served! With it, a switch to softer light focused on the table and a
relaxing playlist as you catch up on the day’s events.
Housekeeping
The right soundtrack can make cleaning up feel less like a chore. Turn up the
volume, the lights and the air purifier to get the job done and help remove
lingering odours.
Going to bed
Prepare for sleep by scheduling blinds closed, soft lighting, and air purifier
on, creating a welcome atmosphere for you to unwind in. With a shortcut button
close by, you can turn everything off across the home from the comfort of your
bed.
Waking up
Goodbye blaring alarm. Hello favourite playlist, lights on low and blinds
slowly rising to let in the day.
Protecting you and your sleep
Waking in the night can happen to us all.
With a motion sensor and smart lighting added to the DIRIGERA hub, you can
tell the lights to come on soft and low during certain hours. That way you can
find your way safely without the bright lights.
Leaving
and coming home
Place a remote or shortcut button close to exits so you can quickly turn
everything off when leaving and have a warm welcome when you come home.
The app is the heart of your smart home
With the IKEA Home smart app downloaded to your phone or tablet, using the
DIRIGERA hub, you can easily manage your smart home by browsing through the
different tabs.
Start with the ‘home’ tab – intuitive and easy to personalise with different colours and icons. From the home screen you can create ‘rooms’ so that it mirrors your home, and gives a quick overview of everything that’s happening at home.
In the ‘all products’ tab you can see a total list of your smart products
grouped by type. You can also move products from one “room” to another,
quickly turn them on/off, and see if it’s time to recharge or replace any
remote control batteries.
In ‘scenes’ you can create and run scenes and schedule timers. And in
‘settings’ you have quick access to how tos and support if you need it (most
of the time you don’t!).
The right scene at the right time, every time
Save your favourite settings
Found the perfect combination of cosy lighting and music? Save it as a scene
in the app! By creating your own scenes, the right mood for any occasion is
just a tap away.
Easy access
Trigger scenes with schedules or manually with a shortcut button or the app,
for example when you want to turn off all lights and plugs with a single press
when leaving home in the morning.
Scheduled to support
Scenes can also be used to schedule lights to be turned on to make the house
look busy when you’re away, for the air purifier to clean the air before
bedtime, or for the blinds to roll down at daytime to reduce indoor heat from
the sun.
We’ll walk you through it
Information overload? Don’t worry, the IKEA Home smart app will guide you on
how to set everything up – from your first smart product to your first scene.
Popular non-connected set-ups
Perhaps you feel it all sounds great, but you’re just not ready to connect
your lights, blinds or any other smart products to the app and hub yet?
Well, the good news is that you don’t have to. All your smart products work
independently and will still make life at home more convenient. And you can
rest assured they can be connected whenever you are ready for more
functionality.
Lighting
Adapt your lighting to the activities or just change the mood in the room.
Turn on, turn off, dim or gradually change the colour or temperature of the
light from warm to cold. Control up to 10 lights in one room with a remote
control.
Integrated
lighting
Let integrated light enhance both atmosphere and function in your kitchen
cabinets, wardrobe, hallway or any other area. You can turn it on and off with
a remote and in some cases through built-in sensors that will turn on the
light when you walk into a room or a drawer is opened.
Blinds
Push the button! That’s all you have to do when you want to raise the smart
blinds to welcome the morning sun – or lower them to shut out street lights
and window drafts. But that’s not all – the included control also lets you
manage several of the blinds at the same time.
Air
purifiers
Even without the hub your smart air purifier will take care of your indoor
air, while you think about other things. Just set the air purifier in auto
mode and it will automatically detect particles and adjust the fan speed to
filter them. Put it in night mode to make sure your night sleep isn’t
disturbed.
Lighting on a new level
Make the most of your smart lighting and let it enhance life at home. By
connecting the lighting you can control it, integrate different light sources
and always have the right light for all activities.
Better sleep
On average we spend a third of our lives in bed sleeping. Or not sleeping!
Make sure you get the best conditions to unwind, fall asleep and wake up the
next morning by integrating air purifiers, lights, blinds and sound to suit
you.
Home entertainment
Turn your home into your favourite entertainment spot. Imagine how the light
automatically dims to match the music when you’re hosting a party, or add in a
soundbar from Sonos for a home theatre set-up.
The full package
Bit by bit you can develop your smart home by setting up new products and new
functions, integrating them for a more complete experience.
