Cast Iron Cookware Care & Usage Instructions

Seasoning

To get the best from your cookware, OLYMPIA recommend that it is ‘seasoned’ before use.

  1. Wash the cookware thoroughly in warm soapy water.

  2. Dry thoroughly.

  3. Lightly brush vegetable oil over the inner and outer surfaces of the cookware.
WARNING: Do not use excessive amounts of oil. This can cause a fire hazard.
The cookware may smoke slightly in the oven. This is normal.

  4. Place in a preheated oven at 200°C and bake for 1 hour.

  5. Allow the cookware to cool in the oven and then remove.

Using the Cookware

  • Always wear suitable protective gloves when using the cookware as handles become hot with use.
Note: Cast iron cookware retains heat for sometime after cooking, ensure it is safe to handle before moving.

  • The cookware is hot enough to cook with when drops of water evaporate immediately when sprinkled on cooking surface.

  • Always cook with a low to medium heat when cooking to reduce the risk of foodstuffs sticking.

  • Pat any meats dry with kitchen towel to ensure it does not stick to ribbed bases when cooking.

  • When using cookware on glass or ceramic cooking surfaces always lift the cookware to remove it, DO NOT slide it on or off.

  • Never use metallic utensils with the cookware. These can damage the cooking surface.

Cleaning, Care & Maintenance

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners to clean the cookware. Cast iron cookware is NOT dishwasher safe.
  • Soak burnt on food in warm, soapy water.
  • Dry the cookware immediately after cleaning, do not allow to drip dry.
  • Do not leave food in cast iron cookware. Transfer food to a suitable container as soon as possible once cooked.
  • Store the cookware in a dry, uncovered location, particularly in a humid environment.
  • If rust spots occur, scrub the affected area with a PLASTIC scouring pad and repeat the seasoning process.
  • If food begins to taste ‘metallic’, season the pan again.
