Product Information

The LAING STYLE HEATER by HYDROQUIP is a replacement heater designed for spas. It is important to follow the installation instructions carefully to ensure proper installation and operation of the heater. This product comes with a limited warranty, but it is the responsibility of the installer to confirm the flow/pressure switch, sensors, and pump are working correctly once the replacement heater is installed.

Installation Instructions

Before beginning the installation process, make sure to read and understand all steps mentioned below. It is recommended that this service repair be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified service professional.

  1. Step #1: Disconnect the power from the spa before attempting any service.
  2. Step #2: Confirm that the new heater is a direct replacement and has the same wattage as the old one. Inspect the heater for any shipping damage. Do not install a heater that appears damaged or is the incorrect model. Reuse terminal screws, hose clamps, barbs, mounting nuts, and the high limit sensor if they are found to be in working condition.
  3. Step #3: Some heaters may come with additional parts for field conversion. Use a proper tool to attach electrical connectors to #10 wire. If provided, use a 1/8 threaded plug to seal the bypass port when not utilized. Detailed flow switch instructions are provided within the switch kit.
  4. Step #4: Ensure that all wire terminal connections, including the bonding wire, are tightened securely. Loose wire terminals can cause severe damage to heater wiring and are not covered under warranty.
  5. Step #5: For control systems with a cabled electronic high limit device, securely fasten the sensor to the heater tube in the same exact location. If the sensor was covered with insulating material, reinstall the material over the sensor to prevent exposure. Heaters provided with a flow switch must be installed on the flow outlet side of the heater. Refer to flow switch kit instructions and the provided diagram.
  6. Step #6: Once the electrical and plumbing connections are complete and the heater is operational, inspect for leaks from the heater and connecting plumbing. Confirm proper flow/pressure switch operation when the pump is both ON and OFF.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter a “No Heat” problem with the heater, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Confirm that the circulation pump is moving enough water. Check for closed valves, a clogged pump, air bubble in the pump, kinked water supply tubing, dirty spa filter, and ensure that the flow switch paddle is closing properly. Refer to flow switch instructions for more details.
  2. Locate the high limit button on the heater and push it to reset. If pressing the button solves the issue, it may indicate low water flow causing the heater to trip. Review symptoms mentioned in step #1 for possible reasons for low water flow. Contact your heater supplier if the high limit continues to trip.
  3. Review the electrical connection points to ensure they are properly located and confirm that voltage is being supplied.

Attention: Removing the product labels, disassembling, or altering the heater will void the product warranty. Additional limited warranty information is provided with these instructions.
