Product Information:
External Spa Drain Valve

The External Spa Drain Valve is a component used for draining the spa water. It is designed to be installed externally on the spa cabinet panel, providing a convenient and accessible drain point. The valve features a handle and a spout, allowing easy control of the water flow during the draining process. The valve is made of durable materials to withstand the harsh environment of a spa.

Installation Instructions

  1. Before starting the installation, turn off the power to the spa at the electrical service panel and open the spa cabinet access panel.

  2. If your spa has an existing in-cabinet drain hose, locate and snip off the existing drain valve. If the spa has not been drained, insert a temporary plug or kink and tape the tubing to prevent water from spilling.

  3. Determine which side of the spa you prefer for locating the new external drain.

  4. If the existing drain hose is not long enough to reach the chosen side, splice in a supplementary section of 3/4″ Clear PVC Tubing [BX9007] using a 3/4″ Barbed PVC Tubing Coupler [BX9682]. You can make the tubing more flexible by soaking the end in a cup of hot water.

  5. If your spa has no drain system, you will need to tee into a low point of the existing plumbing to facilitate installation. Contact us for technical support if you have any questions.

  6. Locate the drain valve as low as possible on the cabinet panel.
If suitable, installation through the toe kick plate may also be an option. Ensure there is unobstructed internal clearance for the valve and tubing.

  7. Cut a round 2″ opening for mounting using a hole saw or a jigsaw. It may be easier to remove the panel prior to cutting.

  8. Slip the tubing onto the barbed fitting of the Drain Valve.
Soaking the end of the vinyl tubing in hot water will make it more flexible.

  9. Remove the bezel, then insert the Drain Valve into the opening from the inside. Reinstall the bezel and tighten the rear nut snugly.

  10. Read the operating instructions on the next page before using the Drain Valve.

Operation Instructions
  1. Push the handle IN slightly to unlock the valve mechanism.
  2. Pull out the spout and remove the cap. The valve is closed at this point, and no water will drain.
  3. If desired, install a garden hose by attaching it to the spout when it is extended and locked.
  4. Push the hose and spout halfway in to open the valve and begin draining. Rotate the valve 1/4 turn to lock it in this position.
  5. When finished draining the spa, reverse the above procedure.
The spout must be fully re-extended to unscrew the garden hose.

Turn off power to spa at the electrical service panel prior to opening spa cabi-net access panel.

  1. If spa is equipped with an in-cabinet drain hose (normally 3/4” I.D. tubing), locate and snip-off the existing drain valve. If spahas not been drained, insert temporary plug or kink and tape tubing to prevent water from spilling.
  2. Determine which spa side is your preference for locating the new external drain.
  3. If existing drain hose is not long enough to reach the side chosen, splice in a supplementary section of 3/4” Clear PVC Tubing[BX9007] using a 3/4” Barbed PVC Tubing Coupler [BX9682]. TIP: Soaking end of vinyl tubing in a cup of hot water makes itmore flexible.
  4. If spa has no drain system, you will need to tee into a low point of existing plumbing to facilitate installation. Contact us fortechnical support if you have questions: Weekdays, 6AM—5PM Pacific Time 800-823-3638.SpaDepot com-BX9688-Exterior-Spa-Drain-Valve-2
  5. Locate Drain Valve as low as practical on the cabinet panel. Depending on your spa design, installation through the toe kickplate may also be an option. Determine that there is unobstructed internal clearance for valve (7”) and tubing.
  6. Cut a round 2” opening for mounting. This is best accomplished with a hole saw, but a jigsaw can alternately be used. This maybe easier if panel is removed prior to cutting.
  7. Slip tubing onto barbed Drain Valve fitting. TIP: Soaking end of vinyl tubing in a cup of hot water makes it flexible.
  8. Remove bezel, then insert Drain Valve into opening from the inside. Reinstall bezel, then tighten rear nut snugly.
  9. IMPORTANT: Read operating instructions (next page) prior to using Drain Valve.
