INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION AND USE
Congratulations on your new Morsø Grill Forno
The era of only enjoying a grill on the few warm summer evenings is long since
past. Our much loved grill is now being used for all sorts of advanced cooking
– all year round! Nowadays, it is used for the Christmas duck, to smoke salmon
for Easter, for slow-baked Italian bread and to simmer game fricassee on cool
autumn days. We are living in a grill era!
All this has of course been taken into account in the development of the new
multi-functional cast iron grill by Morsø.
The Morsø Grill Forno has been designed by award-winning Danish designer Klaus
Rath, and is the ideal choice for the family that values good food, unique
design, originality and shared experiences.
Over and above the well-known grill functions, the Morsø Grill Forno can also
be used for slow roasting, smoking and as a sculptural outdoor fireplace and
to spread comfort.
The grill does not just give the senses of taste and smell a treat, but
completes the total experience with visual enjoyment of the wild play of the
flames, enclosed in the cast iron cave.
If you use the specially designed grill door, the oven will function as a ball
grill, allowing slow roasting, baking and smoking. Morsø Grill Forno is made
of solid cast iron, and with correct use and care the durability of the grill
is ensured for many seasons.
Morsø Grill Forno functions optimally using either coal or firewood.
SAFETY INFORMATION
- Be aware of sparks and flames from the mouth and chimney of the oven.
- If placed on timber decking or similar, we recommend placing a fire-proof panel in front of the grill/fireplace.
- Before lighting, it is important to ensure that the grill is standing stably.
- Never leave the grill before all flames and embers are extinguished.
- Using water to extinguish the fire can result in the cast iron components cracking or warping.
- The outside of the grill becomes very hot while lit. Therefore, be sure to take the necessary care, especially if children and pets are close to the oven.
- Do not use combustible liquids to light or maintain the fire.
- Be aware of very high temperatures when the oven is in use. Use gloves. Do not insert arms or fingers into the oven during use.
Positioning the oven
- The oven must be placed no less than 1m from flammable surfaces and materials to the rear and sides.
- The oven should only be used outdoors and must not be placed below eaves or low hanging branches.
- It is important for the oven to be placed on a solid, plane and horizontal surface.
Removing ash and embers
- Use a metal shovel to remove ash or embers.
- Use a metal bucket with a tight-fitting metal lid to store ash and embers. Always place the bucket on a non-flammable surface, well clear of flammable materials.
- When the ash is cold, it can be used as fertiliser in your garden, or disposed of with ordinary refuse.
ASSEMBLY OF MORSØ GRILL FORNO
To avoid injury during unpacking and assembling the oven, we recommended that
2 people should carry out this work.
The assembly of legs, steel ring with hooks and the lower part of the Grill
Forno, you have to be aware of the location of the 3 hooks for hanging
accessories.
The oven may have pale markings on delivery. These are a result of assembly
and handling during production. Marks will probably also arise when you
assemble the oven. They can easily be removed using cooking oil.
MAINTENANCE AND CARE
Morsø Grill Forno is produced in cast iron.
Cast iron parts can be washed with a mild solution of soft soap when the oven
is cold. Preferably use demineralised water, as ordinary tap water can leave
limescale.
Due to the heat, the stainless tubes connecting the legs and base of the Grill
Forno may in certain cases suffer corrosion, so that they become
brownish/blueish.
The legs on the Grill Forno are supplied untreated, and will in time become
grey. If you want to retain the brown glow of the timber, you will have to
treat it with furniture oil. Oak can stay outdoors all year round, but we
recommend storing the grill under a roof in an unheated room for the winter –
for example, in a garage or basement room.
IMPORTANT
Make sure to clean your product before its first use, and make sure that there
are no packaging material left on the product.
Make sure to Heat the product at max temp for at least 15 minutes before using
the product for the first time. If your product has a lid it needs to be pre
heated with a closed lid.
If there is a breach in the enamel coating or enamel flakes have fallen off
the Grill grate (or cooking area), then the grill grate needs to be replaced.
NOTIFICATION OF DEFECTS
The warranty period runs from the date of purchase, and covers defects and
omissions. The duration according to the national Sale of Goods Act applies.
The warranty does not cover:
- Wear items, i.e. parts that deteriorate during normal use. For these parts, the relevant provisions of the Sale of Goods Act for deficiencies apply.

In the event of a claim, please contact your dealer, who will deal with your claim.
TIPS & TRICKS
Direct and indirect heat
Using the coal insert, it is possible to place embers or a fire directly below
your grill grate, or at the sides of the grill for indirect heat, when you are
grilling larger items.
Lighting and stoking techniques using wood
Behind every successful fire is a good layer of embers. This can be formed
quickly by using 2-4 firelighting briquettes under 1 – 2 kg dry kindling in
the middle of the firepit. Kindling should be stacked in a cross and the stack
lit in the middle with firelighters. You can use a blower pipe, such as that
built into the Morsø Ash scraper, to blow on the embers and give the fire an
extra boost.
When the initial fire has burnt down, break up the embers into pieces with the
Morsø Ash scraper and add more firewood. To avoid too much smoke, it helps to
lay on less timber more often, and at the same time to ensure that the bark on
the timber faces upwards.
Lighting and stoking techniques using coal
Load a suitable amount of briquettes or coal into the grill starter. Lay
lightly crumpled paper or firelighters below the grate of the grill starter.
Place the grill starter on a non-combustible underlay and light the paper or
firelighters.
When all briquettes or coal are glowing, spread them over the base of the
grill. The grill starter becomes very hot, so it is important to use gloves
when tipping out the coal. You will get quicker and more uniform lighting by
using the grill starter without lighter fluid or firelighters.
Lighting time: approx. 15 minutes.
NB!! Always use dry, clean and untreated timber in the firepit.
Logs should be stored under a roof for no less than 1 year, and preferably 2
years, exposed to the wind. Logs should be split as soon as possible after
felling if they are to dry quickly.
The wood can be used when its moisture content is below 20 %.
Never use driftwood, as it is usually very salty and can therefore ruin the
oven. Impregnated and painted timber and chipboard emit poisonous smoke and
vapours, and must therefore not be used as firewood. Pine and similar species
of resinous timber develop
poisonous gases when burning, and should be therefore not be used in
connection with food preparation.
REPAIR KIT
Surface scratches and rust formation will appear with use. Such small damages are easily repaired using the supplied repair/maintenance kit. Maintenance of the oven is recommended 1-2 times annually. See the maintenance video at morsoe.com.
