Installation

Please read all these instructions carefully before installing and operating the unit and leave the manual on site for owner/operator’s use. The Baracuda Chlor Control MUST only operate when the pool fi lter pump is operating. By plugging the Baracuda mains lead into the power socket, then plugging the fi lter pump into the”piggyback” plug on the Baracuda Chlor Control mains lead, both will be powered through the same circuit. Before installing the unit in position on the wall or post, the length of the PVC tubing provided should be measured and taken into consideration. To avoid loss of water from the system, close all stop valves before cutting any lines.BARACUDA-H0744300-REVA-Chlor-

Plumbing and Mounting

The liquid chlorine injection point (where the liquid chlorine goes into the pool water) must be mounted into the pipework, after all other equipment. The optimal location for the injection point is on a straight length of pipe (vertical or horizontal) that is 200mm or longer. The installation of the Baracuda Chlor Control is as follows (Also see Figure 2):

  1. After locating the injection point, cut the pipe for the installation of the Injection Cell Kit (items 2-5).

  2. Mount the Baracuda Chlor Control onthe wall within 1-2m from the injection point. See Section 4.4 for details on  protecting the Baracuda Chlor Control.

  3. Install the drum feed/vent kit. See Section 4.2 for installation details.

  4. Position the chemical drum (15/20 ltr) preferably outside of the filtration box. Whether placed inside or outside of the filtration box, do not place directly under the control unit to prevent equipmentdamage from fumes. See Section 4.3 fordetails.
NOTE: Place at least 1m away from under the Baracuda Chlor Control.

  5. Attach the feed tubing from the chemicaldrum to the Baracuda Chlor Control intake.

  6. Connect the chemical feed tubing from the outlet side of the Baracuda Chlor Control to the injection point. See Section 4.5 for details.

  7. Turn on Baracuda Chlor Control. SeeSection 4.6.BARACUDA-H0744300-REVA-Chlor-Control-Semi-Automatic-Liquid-Chlorine-Feeder-fig-3

Installing the Vent Kit

As supplied, the rigid white tube is designed to suit a 25 ltr container. The tube needs to be cutto suit the right size drum being used. Firstly insert the non return valve into the rigid white tube, with the arrow point up. (when fitted correctly you should be able to blow through the valve into the tube). Now place the tube into the drum, with the valve at the bottom (as shown in Figure 3) and then lift the tube by roughly 10mm, then cut the tube level with the rim of the container, this will allow space for the liquid chlorine to be sucked into the tube. Now fit the correct size lid to suit your drum.

The flexible tube from the liquid chlorine drum must be connected to the left- hand barb of the Baracuda Chlor Control and the tube to the pool is connected to the right-hand barb. Cut a suitable length of flexible tubing to run from the liquid chlorine drum to the Chlor Control unit. To connect the Baracuda Chlor Control to the dosing tubes, slide a clamping nut onto eachtube (as shown in Figure 4) and push the tubeonto the barb. Slide the clamping nut up the tube and hand tighten it onto the pump.

Placement of Chemicals
To avoid potential corrosion issues, the liquid chlorine drum shouldn’t be placed underneathany equipment.

Placement of Control Unit
If the Baracuda Chlor Control is installed in an enclosure or shed, the liquid chlorinedrum should ideally be stored out side of theenclosure or shed.
The Baracuda Chlor Control needs to be kept away from the elements to protect the longevity and function of the components.

Connection of lines
Install the Injection T piece into the “return’’ line. Cut an appropriate piece out of this pipe and glue the “T” piece in position, using PVC glue. Using the rest of the flexible tube, cut a length that is long enough to run from the Chlor Control to the injection point. Now feed the gland grommet, washer and nut onto the feed line. Now push the feed line into the injection T piece so it reaches about halfway into the T piece (see fi g 7 below). Now ensure the gland grommet and washer are seated in the T piece and then tighten the gland nut into position. light tug on the feed line to make sure the connection is secure.

TIP: Soaking the ends of the PVC tubing in hot water or warming the ends makes it easier to push onto the barb. When installing chemical containers in fi lter enclosures, which have no ventilation, it is recommended that the hole in the cap of the container is cut to fi t tightly around the tubing, so that fuming is reduced and slows the corrosion of equipment in the shed. It will be necessary to drill a second hole in the cap fi tted tightly with a length of tubing which should then be vented outside the fi lter enclosure. This procedure is recommended only where the fi lter enclosure has no ventilation and is to protect the equipment. Please note however it is preferable to store the chemicals outside of the equipmentshed to prevent any corrosion.

IMPORTANT: This dosing pumps is designed to dose against a maximum pressure of 150-175 kPA (20-25 psi), avoid excessive pressure situations such as in-floor cleaners (when using for pool applications). The recommended position of the injection point is the last point on the return line.

Priming Chlor Control
Select number 10 setting on the control dial. The Baracuda Chlor Control will commence to draw the liquid chlorine from the drum. Whenthe chlorine begins to flow down the PVCtubing, adjust the dial to the desired setting. Chlor Control has a pre purge built into the unit and therefore has a delay start up of 1 minute.

Pool Volume Dial setting 5 RPM

25000| 1.5
30000| 2
40000| 2
50000| 2.5
60000| 3
75000| 3
90000| 4
120000| 5
150000| 6
200000| 8
250000| 10

Using Your Chlor Control
Once the feed lines are primed (ie as directed to have on setting 10 until chlorine is flowing freely thru the tube at startup) it will be necessary to reduce the dial setting to suit your pool size, (check the chart above.) It will then be necessary to monitor the water quality over the coming week/s until you fi nd the right setting to suit your pools individual needs. Throughout the year, it may be necessary to increase or reduce the dial setting to suit the seasons and your individual bathing requirements. Regular testing by using a test strip to monitor chlorine levels, and then making the needed adjustments to your Chlor Control unit is highly recommended.

Maintenance

Maintenance Schedule
Your new product incorporates moving parts and withstands high velocity water with chemicals in it. Some of these parts will wear in the normal course of use and require regular checks and maintenance. Performing these checks and maintenance will identify parts that have worn and require repair/replacement before further serious damage is sustained. A small amount of regular care and attention to your pool equipment will help ensure long life and trouble free performance.

To protect against extremes of temperature, your Baracuda Chlor Control is vented to allow cooling of the internal components. Ants and some insects are often attracted to the warmer, dry environment inside the enclosure. We recommend that, with power turned off, you spray a surface insecticide on the surfaces surrounding the control to prevent ant and insect ingress. Repeat every three months or as necessary.

Timing Maintenance Check Service Action (if required)
Three Monthly Check hoses and connections for leaks. Check for insects/ants.

Isolate pump, turn power off. Disconnect hoses and spray a surface insecticide on the surfaces around the unit to prevent ant and insect ingress.
Six Monthly| Inspect peristaltic pump and squeeze tube for cracks, wear and tear.| Lubricate with silicone grease or replace as required.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Regular maintenance is important to ensure long life and trouble free performance of your pool equipment.

Squeeze Pump Tube

  1. The injection point (where the chlorine discharges into the pool line) should be checked periodically for any build up of solid matter like calcium at the end of the PVC tubing and kept clean. This may otherwise cause blockage hindering the passage of chlorine into the pool and shorten the life of the pump tube and roller block. While unscrewing the gland nut, take care not to lose the rubber grommet and washer.
  2. Lubricate the squeeze (pump) tube every 6 months. Use only a recommended lubricant (such as silicone grease), available from most hardware stores, otherwise damage tothe unit can result.
  3. Depending on usage, the squeeze (pump) tube may need replacement after 1-2 years on a domestic pool installation. Before replacing the tube, make sure that the filter pump is turned off and that any stop valves in the filter system are closed. Otherwisewater loss may occur.

To replace this tube, remove the retaining screws on the plastic face plate and pull the tube free. Disconnect the squeeze tube from the barbs and reconnect the new squeeze tube, making sure that the new squeeze tube is correctly connected to the PVC tubing as per instructions. Reposition the squeeze tube in the unit as before, lubricate the new squeeze tube with the recommended lubricant. Replace the plastic face plate and retaining screws.

Do not overtighten these screws or nuts.
NOTE: Use of a sunscreen chemical (cyanuric acid) for outdoor pools is recommended. check with your local pool shop and use the correct dosage. make sure your pool water is balanced. The recommended stabilizerlevels are 5 – 50 mg/L.
