Foreword
Read this document and the documentation of the ventilation unit carefully before use. Use this document to operate and maintain the ComfoCool Q for the ComfoAir Q600, Comfort Vent Q600 and Aeris NEXT600 safely and effectively. This document refers to the ComfoCool Q as ,,the unit” and the ComfoAir Q600, Comfort Vent Q600 and Aeris NEXT600 as “the ventilation unit”. The unit is constantly being developed and improved. There is therefore a possibility that the unit differs slightly from the descriptions given.

The importance of good ventilation
Clean air in the home is very important for your health. Did you now, for
example, that you need 25 m3 (25,000 litres) of clean, fresh air per hour?
Furthermore, the CO2-laden stale air must also be removed from the dwelling.
Good ventilation is therefore essential. Balanced ventilation controls this
for you in a comfortable way. Breathing, cooking, showering and visiting the
toilet: all indoor activities that generate moisture and result in a build up
of stale air. Continual adequate ventilation is essential to refresh air in
the home – and thus kee it healthy and comfortable. We would otherwise very
quickly start suffering from moulds, bacteria, dust mites, damp spots and
unwanted odours. But that is not all. What do you think about health problems
like allergies, respiratory irritation and headaches? All issues that can
affect your health, concentration, functioning and performance.
Good ventilation: not a luxury but a necessity
Good ventilation has only become more important thanks to increasingly well-
insulated homes. Insulation is a good thing, as it saves energy and is good
for the environment. Unfortunately, though, it does reduce the supply of fresh
air in the home. After all, an airtight home does not let much fresh air in.
And stale air is then not easily removed. Ventilating or airing by opening
windows and doors is inadequate. It is no accident that good ventilation is
mandatory in all new homes: it is not a luxury but a condition of a liveable

Introduction and safety
In combination with your ventilation unit, the unit is designed to regulate to comfortable levels the temperature and humidity of the fresh air supplied to your dwelling. This creates a comfortable and pleasant indoor climate. In the winter, the ventilation unit ensures energyefficient ventilation in your dwelling, using the energy from the stale exhaust air to heat the supply air to a comfortable temperature. In the summer the system ensures energy- efficient air temperation for your dwelling.
Safety instructions
- The unit may only be used when it is properly installed according to the instructions and guidelines in the installer manual of the unit;
- Do not open the casing. The installer makes sure that all parts that can cause personal injury are behind the casing;
- The unit can be used by:
- children aged from 8 years and above;
- persons with reduced physical capabilities;
- persons with reduced sensory capabilities;
- persons with reduced mental capabilities;
- persons with lack of experience and knowledge, if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the unit in a safe way and understand the hazards involved;
- Children shall not play with the unit;
- Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be carried out by children without supervision. If you suspect a defect, please observe the following safety precautions:
- Never open the unit. Repairs should only be carried out by a recognized fitter.
- The unit contains coolant (R134a). This coolant is colorless, non-toxic and non-flammable. The volume of coolant in the unit is so small that it cannot possibly lead to hazardous concentrations in your dwelling. The unit has been designed to prevent coolant from leaking under normal operating conditions.
If you detect a faint, ether-like smell:
- Do not touch the unit for at least one hour;
- Open windows and doors in the room in which the unit is located for at least an hour;
- Contact your installer.
Working and principle
The unit is equipped with a compression air temperation system, as is used in fridges. The electrically driven compressor (P) pumps coolant round the condenser (M), the capillary (K) and the evaporator (L) in that order. In the condenser (M) the coolant is converted from a gas to a liquid (condensation). This process releases energy that is discharged in the air extracted from the dwelling. The capillary (K) ensures reduced pressure in the coolant, making it boil. This is the opposite effect of a pressure cooker, which raises boiling point by increasing pressure. In the evaporator (L) the coolant converts from liquid to vapour. This phased process requires energy, which is extracted from the supply air (D). This tempers the supply air. The fins of the evaporator (L) are colder than the air that passes them. This creates condensate, dehumidifying the air. The condensate is drained to the waste-water system. The result is that energy is transferred from the supply air (D) (which becomes cooler and drier as a result) to the exhaust air (F) (which heats up as a result). The combination of unit and ventilation unit tempers more efficiently, as the ventilation unit then behaves more like a “cold-recovery unit” in warm weather. Warm fresh air is pre-cooled by the ventilation unit and is then tempered further by the unit.
Operation
The unit is automatically controlled by the ventilation unit connected below it.
You can influence the behavior of the unit with the following operating panel of the ventilation unit:
Control App
When the unit is active it makes a noise similar to a fridge and the symbol is
displayed on the operating panel.
Starting the device
You cannot start the device manually. However you can influence the
temperature on which the ventilation unit will decide the device needs to be
started. You can do this by setting the TEMPERATURE PROFILE of the ventilation
unit to a colder setting.
- Navigate to TASK MENU as instructed in the manual of the operating panel.
- Navigate to TEMPERATURE PROFILE.
- Navigate to NORMAL or COOL.
Stop the device
You can stop the device for a specific duration in the TASK MENU on the
operating panel of the ventilation unit.
- Navigate to TASK MENU as instructed in the manual of the operating panel.
- Navigate to COMFOCOOL.
- Navigate to OFF.
- Select the desired duration with the up and down button.
- Select CONFIRM.
If you would like to stop the device on specific times every week you can program a schedule for stopping the device in the TASK MENU on the operating panel. Read the manual of the operating panel For more details on programming a schedule.
Checking the status of the device
You can check the current status of the device on the operating panel of the
ventilation unit in menu STATUS. Here you can also check the state of the
scheduler and bypass.
- When the bypass is activated the ventilation unit will not turn on the device.
Certification and warranty
Warranty conditions
The manufacturer provides a warranty on the unit for a period of 24 months
after fitting up to a maximum of 30 months after the date of manufacture.
Warranty claims may only be submitted for material faults and/ or construction
faults arising during the warranty period. In the case of a warranty claim,
the unit must not be dismantled without written permission from the
manufacturer. Spare parts are only covered by the warranty if these parts are
supplied by the manufacturer and have been installed by an approved installer.
The warranty is rendered invalid if:
- the warranty period has expired;
- parts are used which were not supplied by the manufacturer;
- unauthorised changes or modifications are made to the installation;
- installation has not been carried out according to the applicable regulations;
- defects are caused by incorrect connection, incompetent use or contamination of the system.
The costs of disassembly and assembly are not covered by the warranty
provisions. This also applies to normal wear and tear. Zehnder retains the
right to change the construction and/or configuration of its products at any
time without being obliged to alter previously delivered products.

Liability
The unit has been designed and manufactured for use in balanced ventilation
systems incorporating Zehnder heat recovery systems. Any other application is
seen as inappropriate use and can result in damage to the unit or personal
injury, for which the manufacturer cannot be held liable. The manufacturer is
not liable for any damage originating from:
- non-compliance with the safety, operating and maintenance instructions in the unit’s manual(s);
- the use of components not supplied or recommended by the manufacturer. The responsibility for the use of such components lies entirely with the fitter;
- normal wear and tear.
Disposal
Make sure the unit is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Do not dispose of the unit with your domestic waste.
- Contact the supplier regarding the options for returning the unit.
- If you cannot return the unit, consult the local guidelines for recycling the parts.
- Do not dispose of the batteries of the wireless (RF) devices in the normal waste. Hand them in at the designated locations.

Maintenance
Make sure your ventilation system is checked and cleaned by a installer once every 4 years. Note: Only a recognised cooling-technology installer may disassemble and clean the unit.
Cleaning condensation drain
Your ventilation system is fitted with siphons for the condensation drain.
When running, the unit discharges no more than 2.5 litres of condensation an
hour. It is therefore important that the siphons and especially the drain’s
waste-water connector are clean and clear of blockages. Check your
condensation drain once a year.
Cleaning ventilation valves
Your ventilation system is fitted with valves for air supply and air exhaust.
Exhaust valves are fitted in the wall or ceiling of the kitchen, bathroom and
toilet. Supply valves are fitted in the wall or ceiling of the living room and
the bedrooms. If the valves become visibly dirty, then clean them. Hold the
valve on its outer edge and pull it with a rotating movement entirely from the
wall or ceiling. Clean the valve with soap, then rinse it and dry it. Always
remount the valve in the wall or ceiling in the same way you removed it. Take
care not to swap the valves, and try to avoid altering the valve settings.
Filters
Your ventilation unit is equipped with filters that prevent the heat exchanger
from becoming contaminated with dust. It is very important that these filters
are cleaned or replaced occasionally. Consult the ventilation unit manual for
instructions.
What to do?
My operating panel indicates a malfunction If the system detects a malfunction, then it notifies you of this via the operating panel. Make a note of the code.
- First try to cancel the malfunction by navigating to RESET ERROR and selecting CONFIRM. Consult the operating panel manual for instructions.
- Also check whether the unit and ventilation unit are receiving power. On the side of the unit is a plug socket. Check whether the plugs are firmly fitted in the sockets.
- If the malfunction reoccurs, please contact an installer specialised in ventilation and cooling technology.
My unit does not switch on
If your unit does not switch on like you expected, then please check the
following:
- Is the ventilation level correctly set? The unit will not be activated in the Absent setting.
- Is the temperature profile correctly set? Only when the return temperature of the ventilation unit is higher than the set temperature profile will the system be activated.
- Is it cold outside? Active air temperation is not activated when it is cold outside (lower than 12°C).
- Is it colder outside than inside? When it is colder outside than inside, the system employs the bypass to ensure energy-efficient air temperation. For further information, see section 3.
- Is it autumn or winter? The system does not use the active air temperation function in seasons in which the heating is often on.
- Is the unit temporary turned off? A menu for this purpose can be found in the TASK MENU. Only when this setting in menu COMFOCOOL is set to “AUTO” will the unit be activated.
- Has the unit just been deactivated? For safety reasons, it takes five minutes before the unit is reactivated.
- Does the operating panel register with the unit? When the unit is not registered the display on the ventilation unit will display the malfunction code “CCOOL_ CONNECT ERROR”.
My unit switches on but my dwelling is not being tempered
If your dwelling does not cool (sufficiently) despite the unit being
activated, then you can do the following:
- Set the ventilation to level 3. The more you ventilate, the greater the volume of tempered air is supplied to the dwelling.
- Fit sunblinds. The sun is an extremely powerful source of heat. If your home receives a lot of sunlight, it will warm up very quickly. This source of heat might well be stronger than the air temperation effect created by your unit.
- The unit is capable of reducing the indoor temperature to a few degrees below what it would be, were the unit turned off. In summer, we recommend setting the temperature profile to COOL.
Irregular ventilation
If you have set the ventilation level to 1, the unit will occasionally
increase the airflow of the ventilation unit to keep the cooling components at
an acceptable temperature. If you prefer not to use this function, then set
the ventilation level to 2 or 3. Your installer has set an ventilation
scheduler on the ventilation unit in which the ventilation unit will switch
between PRESET 3 and PRESET AWAY for 5 minuts a day to optimize the
functioning of the unit. No action is needed.
