IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Please read these instructions thoroughly before use. Failure to follow instructions may result in equipment damage or failure, losses, injury or death.
DANGER:
To avoid possible electric shock:
- If the power cord has been damaged, DO NOT operate. The MagFlo Pump should be replaced.
- Close supervision is necessary when the unit is used by or near children.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of electric shock:
- Connect only to a properly grounded receptacle, which is serviced by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter, and never remove the ground pin from the plug.
- Provide a “drip loop” for the power cord. A drip loop is a downward facing loop in the power cord, falling below the level of the electric receptacle and plug, which prevents water from traveling along the cord in the direction of the receptacle.
- ALWAYS unplug the MagFlo Pump from power source when it is not in use.
- ALWAYS unplug the MagFlo Pump from power source before installing, removing or servicing the MagFlo Pump components.
- If an extension cord is necessary, a cord 14 gauge up to 100 ft. must be used. A cord may overheat if the cord is rated for less amperes or watts than the unit rating.
- DO NOT immerse the MagFlo Pump plug in water or attempt to use a wet plug.
- The MagFlo Pump is NOT suitable for use in swimming pools, swimming ponds, or other situations where bodily contact is made with the water.
Important – This unit is equipped with a permanent magnet. The magnetic field may affect the function of pacemakers.
CAUTION:
To reduce the risk of equipment damage or failure:
- ONLY use the MagFlo Pump in fresh water applications.
- DO NOT place MagFlo Pump near flammable or other dangerous materials or objects.
- ALWAYS unplug the unit if there is no water running through it to prevent overheating.
- DO NOT run the pump dry.
- DO NOT operate during freezing conditions. Drain MagFlo Pump and store in a protected location.
IMPORTANT:
The Pond Guy is not responsible for equipment damage or failure, losses,
injury or death resulting from failure to follow safety precautions, or from
misuse or abuse of equipment.

INSTALLING YOUR MAGFLO PUMP
For Best Results
- MagFlo Pump should be placed on a flat surface away from sludge or algae mats.
- DO NOT run the pump dry. To prevent overheating, unplug pump if there is no water running through it.
- Keep MagFlo Pump pre-filter free of debris.
- DO NOT operate during freezing conditions. Drain the MagFlo Pump and store in a protected area.
Step 1
Determine Installation Method
The MagFlo’s versatile nature allows you to configure your pump set up in
multiple ways. Select the method below that best suits your application.
Fountain Only
- Attach diverter assembly (C) to pump outlet of MagFlo pump (A).
- Attach fountain pivot attachment (F) to outlet on diverter assembly (C). Connection will be snug.
- Attach coupler (E) to outlet on fountain pivot attachment (F). Attach fountain extension tube (D) to coupler (E).
- Attach desired fountain spray pattern (K, L, M or N) to fountain extension tube (D).
- Continue to Step 2.
Fountain & Waterfall/Feature
- Complete “Fountain Only” setup above.
- Unscrew and remove the diverter cap on the diverter assembly (C). Attach female tubing adapter (G) to side outlet of diverter assembly (C).
- Connect and secure your pond tubing to tubing adapter with a hose clamp (not included).
- Connect pond tubing to your waterfall or water feature.
- Continue to Step 2.
Waterfall/Feature Only
- Attach outlet male tubing adapter (J or H) to pump outlet of MagFlo Pump (A).
- Connect and secure your pond tubing to tubing adapter with a hose clamp (not included).
- Connect pond tubing to your waterfall or water feature.
- Continue to Step 2.
Optional In-Line Setup
You may use MagFlo pumps in-line (out of the water) to power a waterfall/feature only, but the pump must be placed below the water level. MagFlo pumps must be set up with a flooded suction intake and will not suction lift.
-
Remove pump intake screen, pre-filter sponge, and impeller screen.
-
Connect inlet male tubing adapter (I) to pump intake and outlet male tubing adapter (J or H) to pump discharge of MagFlo Pump (A).
Connect and secure your pond tubing with a hose clamp (not included). -
Connect pond tubing to your waterfall or water feature.
-
Continue to Step 3.
Step 2
Submerge Pump
Submerge the MagFlo pump in a flat area in your pond. For ideal water circulation, the pump should be at the oppositeend of the pond from where the water will discharge. If the fountain feature will be used, be sure the spray nozzle is at least a few inches above the water’s surface.
Step 3
Plug in Pump
Plug the power cord into a standard 120-volt GFCI protected outlet.
Step 4
Adjust Water Flow
Adjust water flow using the diverter valve flow control located on the diverter assembly (C), if applicable for your installation.
Step 5
Adjust Fountain Spray
For the water bell fountain spray pattern (L), it may be necessary to unscrew or tighten the deflector disc on the top of the nozzle for proper flow. To compensate for uneven surfaces, adjust the fountain spray direction by tilting the fountain assembly gently at the pivot attachment, if applicable for your installation.
MAINTAINING YOUR MAGFLO PUMP
WARNING:
Before performing any maintenance, always unplug the MagFlo Pump from the power source.
Perform maintenance any time there is a reduction in water flow or before storing for the winter.
CLEANING THE PUMP
Tools Required:
- Damp Cloth or Small Brush
- Descaler such as Airmax® D-Scale™
Step 1
Unplug and Remove
Unplug the pump and detach from pond tubing.
Remove fountain assembly, if applicable. Move pump to a dry workspace.
Step 2
Remove Pre-Filter
Pull firmly to remove the pump pre-filter from the pump motor.
Step 3
Wash Pre-Filter Sponge & Impeller Screen
Remove pump pre-filter sponge and impeller screen.
Wash thoroughly with water.
Step 4
Remove Impeller Cover & Impeller
Remove the impeller cover by turning counter-clockwise and then pulling to
separate. Grasp by white impeller and lift out of chamber.
(Warning: Pump is magnetically driven. You may experience a magnetic pull when
removing and re-installing impeller.)
Step 5
Clean Impeller & Fountain
Clean impeller and impeller chamber with water. Remove and disassemble fountain connections and tubing adapters. Wash thoroughly with water. A small brush or descaler may be helpful. If using a descaler, be sure to rinse all parts with clean water before reassembly.
Step 6
Reassemble Pump
Reassemble impeller, impeller cover, impeller screen, prefilter sponge, and
pump pre-filter.
(Note: Lower the impeller carefully into the chamber, allowing the impeller to
gently drop into the chamber. Too much force can damage the pump.)
TROUBLESHOOTING:
Pump does not turn on:
- Check that the power cord is connected.
- Check to see if the GFCI or main circuit breaker is tripped.
- Check to see if GFCI is faulty.
- Check power cord for damage.
Pump turns on and then shuts off:
- Verify pump is completely submerged for proper cooling.
- Check for debris clogging the pump intake.
- If using an extension cord, verify that it is of the proper rating for the pump’s electrical requirements.
Reduced water flow:
- Check for debris clogging the pump pre-filter.
- Perform maintenance cleaning of the pump.
- Verify that water level is sufficient and pump is completely submerged.
- Check plumbing for clogs.
