Steel Triwalker
Instruction Manual
Introduction
WARNING: To minimise the risk of injury from improper and unsafe use of
this triwalker, read these instructions and safety precautions before using.
Users with visual, reading or cognitive disabilities should seek advice from a
professional care provider for an appropriate format. If this is not viable,
users should contact their provider or Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd.
Intended Purpose
A walking device manipulated by both arms to assist a person to maintain
stability and balance whilst walking.
Environment of use
Indoor and outdoor use.
Safety Precautions
Consult a healthcare professional before using any assisted mobility device.
Intended Users
Any individual who is up to 125kg in weight and has difficulty in walking and
/ or has reduced mobility.
Indications
To provide support to a user who has a mobility based injury, physical
disability or medical condition.
Contra-Indications
- Unable to weight bear.
- Unable to adequately manoeuvre the triwalker or apply the brakes.
- Users with Hemiplegia.
- Users with only one arm.
- Users who weigh in excess of 125kg.
Other contraindications may be relevant which are specific to the individual and/or environment of use.
Parts description
Personal safety
- Care is to be taken when using the triwalker on uneven ground or on slopes to avoid the risk of the triwalker tipping over.
- Ensure that the handles are at equal heights and securely locked in position.
- Ensure the triwalker is always fully folded out and locked in position before using.
- Ensure that all the wheels are stable and are on the ground.
- Ensure that the braking mechanism is adequate and test before using.
- Ensure that the latest health and safety practice is used for carrying and lifting items, such as wheeled triwalkers.
- Ensure the tightening handles are always on the outside of the triwalker and there is no movement in the handle tubing.
- Do not use on escalators.
- Keep away from heating and ignition sources which may raise surface temperatures or cause a fire.
- Be aware of hazards in your environment, such as narrow doorways, steps, household appliances, children’s toys, etc.
If a serious incident occurs, Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd. and the MHRA or the competent authority of your Member State should be contacted immediately.
Preparing for use
These instructions should be read carefully before using the triwalker. This
product does not have a service manual. Instructions for user assembly are
included and should be completed by a competent person.
A risk assessment must also be performed to assess suitability of the device
for the user. This assessment should include, but not be limited to:
- Small adults (and children)
- Users who lack capacity
- Unauthorised access to the Triwalker Independent users and attendants are responsible for determining that they are both mentally and physically capable of using the triwalker with minimal risk of harm.
Care and maintenance
- Ensure the triwalker is used only as an aid for mobility.
- Ensure the triwalker is kept clean. Wipe down the triwalker with a damp cloth on a regular basis.
- Check the moving parts (e.g. – wheels and castor) regularly.
- Ensure that the hand operated cable brakes have been adjusted to suit the wheels and user.
- All the fasteners (screws, nuts and bolts) are to be checked regularly to ensure they are securely tightened.
- Check that the front castor wheel swivels freely. Withdraw the triwalker from use if it does not.
- Inspect the central locking mechanism regularly to ensure it is operating correctly
- Only use an approved Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd dealer for any maintenance and repairs on your triwalker.
Recycling and disposal
At the end of its useful life the steel and plastic components are to be separated and disposed of following the local recycling policy as these can be recovered and recycled.
Transportation and assembly
- Inserting the handlebars Insert the handlebars into the frame as shown in the photograph (left). Repeat for the other handlebar.
- Setting the handlebar height Set the handlebar to the required height, then insert the bolt ‘A’ (from the tightening handle) through the hole in the frame. Ensure the bolt head is recessed into the frame. Attach the plastic washer ‘B’ and tightening handle ‘C’ onto the bolt. Rotate the tightening handle clockwise until it secures the handlebar into position. Repeat for the other handlebar.
- Folding and Unfolding To fully unfold the triwalker before using, push the folding mechanism away from the handles, as shown by direction A in the picture left. To fold the triwalker for transporting, pull up on the lever in direction B. Leave a gap of at least 50mm between the rear tyres to ensure the triwalker remains upright when folded.
- Fitting the basket (optional)Use the hooks on the frame to hang the basket onto the front of the triwalker.
- Fitting the tray (optional) Secure the tray onto the top of the basket.
NOTE: The brakes on the triwalker are factory set and should not require adjustment. For technical assistance on the triwalker brakes, contact your Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare dealer.
Adjustments for comfort
To adjust the handlebar height
Unscrew the tightening handles at either side of the triwalker anticlockwise,
and remove the washer and bolt (as shown in the image below). Set the
handlebar height to suit the user and then reinsert the bolt. Attach the
washer and tightening handle and turn clockwise to secure (as shown in the
image below). Repeat for the other handlebar, ensuring that both handlebars
are at the same height.
Brake operation
To operate the cable brakes
To apply the brakes to slow down whilst moving: Squeeze both brake levers up
to engage the brakes (in the direction shown by the grey arrow, in the image
below). To apply the parking brakes when stationary: To lock the brakes, push
down on the brake lever until it locks (as shown by the black downwards arrow
in the photo), to unlock the brakes, pull up on the brake lever until the lock
removes (as shown by the grey arrow, in the image below).

Your Drive DeVilbiss branded product is warranted to be free of defects in
materials and workmanship for one year from date of purchase.
This device was built to exacting standards and carefully inspected prior to
shipment. This warranty is an expression of our confidence in the materials
and workmanship of our products and our assurance to the customer.
In the event of a defect covered by this warranty, we will at our option
supply parts or replace the device.
This warranty does not cover device failure due to owner misuse or negligence,
or normal wear and tear. The warranty does not extend to non-durable
components, such as rubber accessories and grips, which are subject to normal
wear and need periodic replacement.
