GPS Air GPS-070-12-PFI-IOM PF-iTM Air Ionization System

Product Information

The PF-iTM air ionization system from GPS Air is a product designed to enhance air quality in HVAC systems. It utilizes carbon filter emitters and rare earth magnets to improve the performance of the system. The PF-iTM is equipped with self-adjusting
capabilities for voltages ranging from 24VAC to 240VAC, ensuring consistent output and performance.

What’s Included

  • PF-i Filter Enhancement System (1)
  • Rare earth magnets (2)
  • Machine screws and nuts (2 each) for mounting magnets
  • Self drilling sheet metal screws (2)

As part of the installation process, a Startup Document should be completed. The latest version of the document can be found on the GPS Air website or by utilizing the provided QR code.

Installation Location

Before installation, ensure that power is disconnected from the HVAC equipment. Follow these steps:

  1. Find an appropriate location for installing the PF-iTM. Ensure that the carbon filter emitters have a clearance of 2 inches from wires or other metal objects.
  2. Mount the rare earth magnets to the PF-iTM using the included hardware. Refer to figure 1 and figure 2 for guidance.
  3. Ensure that the direction of airflow matches the airflow indicator on the PF-iTM.
  4. If there is no ferrous material available to attract the magnet, use the self-drilling sheet metal screws to securely attach the surface. See figure 3 and figure 4 for reference.

Wiring

Follow these instructions for wiring the PF-iTM:

  1. Confirm that the power is off before wiring and comply with all local and national electrical and building codes.
  2. GPS recommends powering the PF-iTM constantly and not switching it with the system or blower.
  3. The PF-iTM is compatible with voltages ranging from 24VAC to 240VAC. Connect the power wires as follows:
    • Black: 24 – 240VAC
    • White: Neutral or L2
    • Green: Ground
    • Brown: Dry Contacts/BAS terminals
  4. Wire in BAS terminals (optional). The PF-iTM is equipped with dry contacts that are normally open and closed when the PF-iTM is on and has no faults. The contacts are rated up to 250VAC and 1A.

Product Usage Instructions

Operation

During operation, never touch the brushes to avoid the risk of electric shock. The PF-iTM comes with a preset cleaning cycle that automatically cleans the brushes every 4 hours.

CAUTION: This product is suitable for mounting to duct of metallic construction only. Installation must be such that the structural integrity of the ducting is not compromised. Use only flexible conduit to avoid the risk of fire and shock.

NOTE: The health aspects associated with the use of this product and its ability to aid in disinfection of environmental air have not been investigated by UL LLC.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with the PF-iTM, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  • If the unit will not power up and there is no indicator light, confirm that proper voltage is applied to the correct terminal(s).
  • Remove power, wait for 1 minute, and reapply power. If no light is still displayed, try an alternate power source. For example, if using 24V, try using 120V or vice versa.
  • If the unit still does not operate properly after following the above instructions, contact GPS for additional assistance.

  1. PF-i Filter Enhancement System (1)
  2. Rare earth magnets (2)
  3. Machine screws and nuts (2 each) for mounting magnets
  4. Self drilling sheet metal screws (2)

As part of the installation process, a Startup Document should be completed. For the latest version of the document, visit our website or utilize the QR code.

Installation Location

Install the PF-i a minimum of 1’ from the filter rack. For best results install the PF-i 3’ or further from the filter rack. See the application guidance document for more information.
NOTE: Use temperature – Maximum temperature in which the unit shall be installed: 140°F/60°C.

WARNING: Make sure power is disconnected to the HVAC equipment before installation.

  • Step 1.
Ensure power to HVAC equipment as well as the PF-i has been disconnected. Follow all local and national electrical and building codes.
GPS recommends the PF-i is powered constantly and NOT switched with the system or blower.
The PF-i will self adjust to voltages from 24V to 240VAC. Output and performance will not be affected by choice of input voltage.

  • Step 2.
    Mount the PF-i

    • Find the appropriate location to install the PF-i. Verify the carbon filter emitters have a 2” clearance from wires or other metal objects.

    • Mount the magnets to the PF-i using included hardware. See figure 1 and figure 2.

    • Ensure the direction of airflow matches the airflow indicator on the PF-i.

    • If there is not a ferrous material available to attract the magnet use the self drilling sheet metal screws and securely attach the surface. See figure 3 and figure 4.

Wiring

  1. Confirm the power is off prior to wiring. Follow all local and national electrical and building codes.
  2. GPS recommends the PF-i be powered constantly and NOT switched with the system or blower.
  3. The PF-i will self-adjust to voltages from 24VAC to 240VAC. Output and performance will not be effected by choice of input voltage. Connect the power wires as follows:
