The declared vibration total value and the declared noise emission values have been measured in accordance with a standard test method. The declared vibration total value may also be used in a preliminary assessment of exposure. Warning! The vibration and noise emission during actual use of the power tool can differ from the declared total value depending on the ways in which the tool is used, in particular, what kind of work piece is machined. It is necessary to identify safety measured to protect the operator that are based on an estimation of exposure in the actual conditions of use (taking account of all parts of the operating cycle such as the times when the tool is switched off and when it is running idle in addition to the trigger time). Try to minimize the impact of vibration and noise. Exemplary measures to reduce vibration exposure include wearing gloves while using the tool, limiting working time, and using accessories in good condition.
SAFETY NOTES
Please note the included General Safety Notes and the following safety notes to avoid malfunctions, damage or physical injury:
Please note all warning symbols. The symbols indicate instructions which are
important for safety reasons. Always observe these instructions as failure to
do so
could result in serious injury!
- Keep the manual always ready to hand when working with the chain saw.
- Children and persons with limited physical, sensorial or mental abilities are not allowed to use the chain saw. The chain saw may only be operated by briefed persons.
- Keep bystanders and animals out of the work area.
- Do not use the unit when your reactivity is affected by alcohol consumption, medication, drugs, illness or when you are tired. One moment of inattention when operating the unit can cause severe injuries.
- Only use the chain saw as indicated in this manual for cutting wood or objects made of wood. It is not allowed to cut metal, plastics or other material that is not made of wood with the chain saw.
- Do not use the chain saw as a lever for lifting, moving or splitting objects. Do not operate the chain saw at temperatures below 10° C.
- Observe all accident prevention regulations.
- Cutting with the chain saw when standing on a ladder, in a tree or in any other instable places in not allowed. Do not cut with the chain saw above shoulder height and never operate the saw with one hand.
- Always inspect the chain saw before each use for worn, loose, or damaged parts. Never operate a chain saw that is damaged, improperly adjusted, or is not completely and securely assembled.
- While clearing the area around the falling tree or falling branches, arrange a good foothold and a secure retreat path.
- Be sure that the saw chain stops moving immediately when the throttle trigger is released. First shut off the chain saw and then lie down.
- The chain saw must be used only by one person at a time.
- Make sure bystanders do not stay in the chain saw’s area of swing.
- Make sure the chain saw is not touching anything and moving free. Keep all parts of your body away from the saw chain when the engine is running. Keep the handles dry,# clean and free of oil or fuel mixture.
- Use only original accessories and original replacement parts.
- Use extreme caution when cutting small size brushes and saplings because slender material can be jammed in the saw chain and whipped towards your body to cause injuries or pull you off balance.
- Do not modify the chain saw in any way.
- When transporting the chain saw always place the guide bar cover on the guide bar.
- Protect the chain saw from moisture.
- Should the chain saw become damaged do not use it and have it repaired by a professional or contact our customer support department. Do not disassemble the chain saw or try repairing it yourself.
Avoiding Kickback and Pushback
The most common reactive forces are:kickback, pull-in and pushback.
Kickback
Kickback may cause deadly injuries. If kickback occurs, the chain saw will be
rapidly kicked back in direction to the operator.
Kickback may occur:
- when the tip of the guide bar touches a hard object,
- when the saw chain on the guide bar tip is jammed while cutting.
To avoid the risk of kickback,
- make sure no body parts are in the extended swing range of the saw chain,
- hold the chain saw firmly with both hands when working. Use a firm grip with thumb and fingers encircling the chain saw handles
- always keep safe stand in order to be able to withstand the backward motion,
- never cut over shoulder height,
- always cut with full speed,
- do not start cutting with the tip of the guide bar or inserting the tip of the guide bar into the wood first.
Pushback
While cutting with the top of the guide bar the saw chain may touch a hard
object in the wood. This will pinch the saw chain and pushback the machine in
direction to the operator. Reduce the risk of sudden strikes by inserting the
bumper spikes into the wood first and then start cutting.
Safety Precautions against Kickback and Pushback
- To reduce the risk of injury due to kickback, check the proper function of the chain brake prior to use the chain saw. Always keep the saw chain sharp. This will ensure a high level of safety against kickback. Removal of any safety parts, inadequate maintenance or incorrect mounting of the guide bar and saw chain will increase the safety risk and lead to serious injuries due to kickback.
- For safety reasons do not use any other saw chain or guide bar types not specified in this manual.
- Kickback is the upward motion of the guide bar that occurs when the saw chain tip contacts a hard object. Kickback is dangerous and can lead to loss of control of the chain saw.
- When cutting converted timber and thin branches, always use a safe stand, e. g. a sawhorse. Do not stack timber pieces for cutting.
- Before cutting logs, secure in position. When working on sloping ground, make sure to work facing upwards. Personal Safety Equipment
- When working with the chain saw, wear eye protection, protective gloves and hearing protection. Wear cut- proof and tight-fitting clothes, long trousers and safety boots.
- Even in case of appropriate use of the chain saw a residual hazard cannot be excluded. Potential human health hazards can be:
- Cuts due to contact with an unprotected saw chain or when touching a moving saw chain. An unexpected moving of the guide bar can also result in severe cuts.
- Abrasions due to parts that are thrown off the saw chain or from the cut material.
- The chain saw has a hand arm vibration of 4.2 resp. 4.6 m/s2. To avoid injuries due to the hand arm vibration, take sufficient rest breaks. Please note the vibration value may vary if
- the chain saw is not used properly or the chain saw is not correctly assembled,
- the wooden material is not processed correctly, not sharp
