- WARNING: TO BE INSTALLED AND/OR USED IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPROPRIATE ELECTRICAL CODES AND REGULATIONS.
- WARNING: IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT ANY PART OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS, CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
- CAUTION: NOTE THAT THIS MANUAL IS WRITTEN WITH THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE INSTALLER POSSESSES SKILL IN THE PROPER USE OF HAND AND POWER TOOLS, AND IS FAMILIAR WITH THE ENVIRONMENT BEHIND THE SURFACE OF THE WALL OR CEILING WHERE THE SPEAKERS WILL BE INSTALLED.
TOOLS AND SUPPLIES NEEDED
- Pencil
- Utility knife or keyhole saw
- Stud locator
- Drill with a 1″ (2.5 cm) flat bit
- Phillips & flat blade screwdrivers
- Measuring tape
- Wire cutter/stripper
- Fire resistant UL rated speaker wire
To determine the length and gauge of speaker wire, you will need to measure the distance between your receiver and each speaker. Remember you will need to run the wire through the walls, over the attic or under the crawl space of your home.
- Always buy more speaker wire than you think you will need.
- Equal speaker wire length for each channel should always be used to maintain an equal balance in sound volume.
- Sound quality is lost when too thin a wire gauge is used over a long distance. A speaker wire of 18-gauge or thicker is recommended.
Fire resistance UL rated speaker wire gauge chart
Length: Minimum Gauge
- Up to 50 feet (15 m) 18-gauge
- 50-150 feet (15-45 m) 16-gauge (thicker)
- Over 150 feet (45 m) 14-gauge (thickest)
NOTE: The smaller the number of wire gauge means it is a thicker wire.
PAINTING
To match the décor of your home you may wish to paint the visible portion of your speaker. First use Latex wall paint or Aerosol spray paint for the paint job, then cover the speaker grille with a coat of anti-rust paint.
NOTE: Prior to painting, remove cloth inside grille.
Directions:
- Remove the speaker grille carefully. Loosen the grille using a small screwdriver.
- To paint the housing, mask the inner area using the painting template provided.
- Start to paint.
- After the paint has thoroughly DRIED, carefully remove the template.
NOTE: There is no need to replace the grille at this time because you will need access to the inner speaker surface during the installation.
SPEAKER PLACEMENT & POWER HANDLING
Speaker Placement:
- The installation of these speakers is permanent. For the best results, the speakers should be mounted on a clean, flat surface indoors.
- It is a good idea to temporarily hook up your speakers, or use the existing speakers to determine the best locations for your new speakers prior to the installation. For the ultimate stereo effect, we recommend that your speakers should be separated 4 to 6 feet (1.2-1.8 m) apart from each other. In-wall speakers should be placed at the “ear level”, approximately 3 to 5 feet (0.9-1.5 m) above the floor.
- To avoid distortion, mount the speakers at least 6 feet (1.8 m) away from any television or monitor.
Power Handling (10 Watts minimum):
- Not all receivers/amplifiers can safely operate 2 pairs of speakers at the same time. Please refer to the owner’s manual provided by the manufacturer of your receiver/amplifier.
- The speakers which you are about to install are rated at 8-ohm impedance (6-ohm minimum). If you intend to operate your main speakers with your newly installed speakers, it is important to check if they are compatible. Locate the connection terminal on your main speakers where the impedance level is often printed, or refer to the owner’s manual. If they are rated at 8-ohms, they are compatible and can be operated simultaneously.
