GETTING STARTED

  • Planning
Plan your cable routing carefully to determine which distribution panel will satisfy your requirements. Determine the number of outlet locations required for phone, fax, modem, and Ethernet and/or Gigabit Ethernet service.

  • Define
Label each wire with its corresponding location or ID number. Use the provided Wiring Identification Chart at the end of these instructions to map the placement of your wires in the Panel, and for reference when filling out the wiring ID labels for the front of the Twist & Mount Panel. The numbers on the termination side of the Twist & Mount correspond with the jack position on the front of the Panel.

  • Organize
In the SMC, separate the voice wires from the data wires for ease of termination. Determine how you will route your wires into the Panel for termination. You can bring your wires in through the top or bottom of the Panel feeding the wires into the wire channels which will hold them in place during termination and when twisting the panel for mounting. Generally if conduit is used you will want to come in through the bottom of the panel to provide an adequate service loop.

INSTALLATION

Twist & Mount Patch Panel

During cable termination the Twist & Mount Panel must be mounted with the 110 IDCs facing out of the enclosure. Make sure the top of the panel is facing the top of the SMC. Align the installation hooks with the grid holes on the back of the enclosure and slide the Panel down so it hangs securely in the enclosure.

Cable Termination:

Run twisted pair cable to the Panel from the wall outlets. Strip approximately 3” of outer jacket from the cable. Match the color coding of the wires to the colors on the 110 IDC color coded wire termination diagram. All four pairs of each cable must be terminated. Make sure to terminate Category 5e wire to Category 5e ports and Category 6 wire to Category 6 ports. Slide each wire into the wire holder in its associated channel.

NOTE: The TIA-570-B Residential Wiring Standard calls for T568A wiring termination. Certain building installations may require T568B termination. To use T568B termination, flip the color coded wire termination diagram over and wire according to the color code shown for T568B. Wall Outlets must be wired to match the chosen termination standard.
For voice, each pair of wires corresponds to one line from the phone company when wire is used to distribute phone service. (Line 1=Blue pair, Line 2=Orange pair, Line 3=Green pair, Line 4=Brown pair.) (Figure 1)

Using Plastic Tool Provided:

  1. Push the appropriate wire into the color designated 110 IDC slot with the tool (Figure 2).
  2. Trim excess wire with diagonal cutters (Figure 3).

Using professional Punch Tool:

  1. Orient tool with cutting blade as shown (Figure 4).

  2. Push straight down until tool seats and trims wire, making a clicking noise.Leviton 476TM-652 Twist & Mount Patch Panel-fig- \(6\)

  3. MOUNTING
After terminating all cables and all wires, slide the panel up and pull straight out and away from the enclosure to release the installation hooks. Twist the patch panel 180° horizontally and align the mounting pins with the grid holes in the back of the enclosure. Feed excess cable into the wall cavity and with the mounting pin plungers in the “out” position, press the unit into the grid in the desired location, secure by pushing the plungers in. Dress service loop of wires along the side of the enclosure.

  4. LABEL
Reference the completed Wiring Identification Chart (Step 1) when filling out the labels for the front on the Panel. Label each jack accordingly with location and service type (data or telephone). Slide the labels from the top of the Panel into the label holders. Peel the protective film from the front and back of each label cover and insert into the label holders so that it lays on top of the paper label to protect it.
