IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, especially when children are present, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, including the following:

  1. Read all Instructions.
  2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  3. To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons do not immerse the cord, plug, or coffee maker in water or other liquid.
  4. Close supervision is necessary when your coffee maker is used by or near children.
  5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning.
  6. Do not use any appliance if it is damaged (including a damaged cord or plug) or if it malfunctions. Return the appliance to an authorized service facility for repair or adjustment.
  7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or injury.
  8. Do not use outdoors.
  9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  11. Extreme caution must be used when moving your coffee maker if it contains hot coffee or water.
  12. Do not use the coffee maker for anything other than intended use.
  13. To disconnect, unplug the power cord from power outlet.
  14. Scalding may occur during the brewing process if your coffee maker is not assembled or operated properly. Do not attempt to open the top cover during the brewing process or in the few seconds following the completion of brewing.
  15. Fill your coffee maker’s water reservoir with water only.
Do not fill with other liquids or foods, except when following the specific instructions in this guide for descaling or cleaning the machine.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

POLARIZED PLUG
Your coffee maker is for HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY. It may be plugged into an AC power outlet (ordinary household current). Do not use any other power outlet.
Your coffee maker has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug and try again. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

Power cord safety tips

  • Your coffee maker comes with a short power-supply cord to reduce the risk of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used:
    • The marked electrical rating of the cord set or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of your coffee maker.
    • The cord should be arranged so that it does not hang over the counter top or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
  • Never pull or yank on the power cord on your coffee maker.
  • To insert the plug, grasp it firmly and guide it into the power outlet.
  • To disconnect your coffee maker, grasp the plug and remove it from the power outlet.
  • Before each use, inspect the line cord for cuts or abrasion marks. If any are found, this indicates that your coffee maker should be serviced and the power cord replaced.
  • Never wrap the power cord tightly around your coffee maker, because this could place undo stress on the cord where it enters your coffee maker and cause the cord to fray and break.

Caution: There are two sharp needles that puncture the K-Cup® capsule. One is located in the top cover of the brew chamber and the other is in the bottom of the K-Cup® capsule holder itself. To avoid risk of injury, do not put your fingers in or near the K-Cup® capsule assembly housing.

Caution: The water in the K-Cup® capsule holder is extremely hot during the brewing process. To avoid risk of injury, do not press the brew chamber release button or open the top cover during the brewing process.

  4. Place your coffee maker on a solid, level, heat-resistant surface.

BEFORE USING

Before you use your coffee maker for the first time, we recommend that you pre-clean it by running the brew cycle using water only.

Note: During the first few minutes of initial use, you may notice smoke or a slight odor. This is normal and should quickly disappear. It will not recur after you have used your coffee maker a few times.

To pre-clean your coffee maker:

  1. Place the water reservoir filter in the water reservoir.

  2. Fill the water reservoir to the maximum level, then close the lid.

  3. Place the brew basket in place. DO NOT insert the K-Cup capsule holder.

  4. Close the top cover on your coffee maker.

  5. Place a large cup or mug on the drip tray, beneath the brew spout.

  6. Plug the power cord into a power outlet.
Note: Ideally, your coffee maker should be operated on its own circuit, separate from other appliances to avoid overloading the circuit.

  7. Press the GROUND button. Your coffee maker heats, then dispenses the water.

  8. After the water is done brewing, your coffee maker automatically shuts off and is ready to use.

BREWING COFFEE USING A K-CUP® CAPSULE

  1. Place your coffee maker on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface.

  2. Place the water reservoir filter in the water reservoir.

  3. Fill the water reservoir with 6 to 10 oz of water. The water levels are marked on the water filter. DO NOT place any liquid other than water in the water reservoir.

  7. Close the top cover of your coffee maker. Make sure that it is completely closed.
Note: If the top cover is not completely closed, the capsule puncturing mechanism does not puncture the K-cup capsule.

  8. Place a mug on the drip tray, under the brew spout.

  9. Plug the power cord into a power outlet, then press the CAPSULE button. The brew cycle starts and the CAPSULE button flashes throughout the brewing cycle.

  10. The CAPSULE button stops blinking and your coffee maker turns off when the brew cycle is over.

Tip:

  • For stronger coffee, use fill the water reservoir with less water.
  • Keep the mug in place at the end of the brew cycle to catch any excess drips.
  • To stop the brewing cycle at any time, press the flashing CAPSULE button.

DESCALING:

Residue from coffee or water may build up in your coffee maker.
You should descale your coffee maker on a regular basis to remove the residue. The frequency for descaling your coffee maker depends on amount of use and local water conditions. As a general rule, you should descale every three months. Specific descaling products for coffee makers are available in stores and online. If you use a descaling product, follow the instructions that came with the product.
You can also use white vinegar to descale your coffee maker.

To descale your coffee maker:

  1. Make sure that your coffee maker’s power cord is disconnected from the power outlet.

  2. Fill the water reservoir with undiluted white vinegar.
Note: If you are using a descaling product, follow the instructions that came with the product.

  3. Place a mug on the drip tray, under the brew spout.
Note: Make sure that your mug is large enough to hold all of the contents in the water reservoir.

  4. Make sure that there is no coffee capsule or coffee grounds in your coffee maker, then close the top cover.

  5. Plug the power cord into a power outlet, then press both the CAPSULE and GROUND buttons at the same time. Both buttons light. Your coffee maker runs five cycles of approximately 30 seconds each cycle. After the fifth cycle is complete, your coffee maker automatically turns off.

  6. Empty the mug. Use extreme caution because the vinegar may be hot.

  7. Fill the water reservoir with eight ounces of distilled or bottled water, then run a full brew cycle without a coffee capsule or coffee grounds.

  8. Run three additional brew cycles using fresh distilled or bottled water each time. Do not use a coffee capsule or coffee grounds.
These additional cycles clean your coffee maker and get rid of any residual taste from the vinegar or descaling product.

To store your coffee maker:

  • Make sure that all parts are clean and dry before storing.

  • Store your coffee maker in its box or in a clean, dry place.

  • Never store your coffee maker while it is hot or wet.

  • Never wrap the power cord tightly around your coffee maker.
    Keep it loosely coiled.

  • Always store your coffee maker in an upright position because a small amount of water may remain in your coffee maker.
