Components

  1. Carefully remove all the fountain components from the packaging and set aside prior to assembly.

  2. As with any electrical device, check the electrical cord for any tears  or damage before use.

  3. Place the foam filter around the pump by inserting the pump into the filter from the top, make sure the cord rests on top of the filter (Fig.1).

  4. Take the bowl and place the pump inside the rectangular indention. Make sure the circular opening on top of the pump is positioned in the bottom left corner (Fig. 2).

The foam filter will be slightly compressed between the pump and the post. Press down on the pump to engage the suction cups. Once the pump is  securely in place, feed the cordover and through the raised post and out the notch on the bottom side of the bowl (Fig. 3).

  5. Remove the extra slack from the cord and insert the rubber cap into  the raised post. Make sure the cutout channel is aligned with the cord, then insert your finger and push all the way down (Fig. 4).

Fold the top of the cap over the post to seal off the bowl (Fig. 5).

NOTE: Always rinse the charcoal filter prior to use. A small amount of charcoal dust may shed for the life of the filter, this is normal and not harmful to your pet.

  6. Rinse the charcoal filter thoroughly in cold water to help remove any excess and loose charcoal dust. Once the filter is rinsed off, place inside the filter housing case with the larger side facing down (Fig.6).

The filter will only fit inside the case one way, if it does not fit, flip it over. Attach the lid to the filter housing case, press down until you hear it snap in place.

  7. Attach the filter housing case to the pump by inserting the raised notch into the circular opening on top of the pump (Fig. 7).

The opening on top of the filter housing should be right next to the sealed raised post.

  8. Align the tower with the rectangular indentation inside the bowl and carefully lower it until it rests flat. The rubber grommet will create a seal between the filter housing case and the tower.

  9. Place the fountain in a desired location. If placing on carpet, tile or wood flooring, use a protective mat or other durable, water resistant surface. This will help protect your floor from any splashing or spills caused by your pet.

  10. Fill the fountain by pouring water directly into the bowl. Leave at least a half inch (1.27 cm) of space between the water level and the rim of the bowl to help control spills and splashing.

  11. Make sure the cord, the adaptor and your hands are completely dry before you plug the fountain in. Connect the inline plug and make sure no silver is showing, then plug the adaptor into an electrical outlet.

  12. Add water to the fountain as needed. Never let the water level fall below 1” (2.54 cm) in height or you may risk burning out the pump. Replacement pumps are sold separately by calling Customer Care at 800-732-2677 or online at www.petsafe.net.

FILTER SYSTEM

The fountain is equipped with two types of filters that should be replaced on a regular basis. A charcoal filter removes bad tastes and odors, keeping water fresh. A foam filter collects hair and debris and prevents it from reaching the pump, providing optimal filtration. The filters together will keep the pump cleaner and provide fresher water to your pet.

Charcoal Filter:
Filters should be changed every two to four weeks. Replace filters more frequently when using the fountain for multiple pets or pets that produce a lot of saliva.

Foam Filter:
Replace the foam filter every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the location of the fountain and the number of pets using it. If you donot intend to replace the filter at the time of cleaning, rinse the foam filter thoroughly with fresh water.

Filters are an added feature of the fountain. Their use is not required for normal operation. However, when used properly and changed regularly, the filters help keep the water cleaner and fresher, while extending the life of your fountain. Filters may be rinsed out when the fountain is cleaned. Never wash the filter with soapy water, as the soap residue will seep into the filter and cannot be removed. Only rinse the filter with water. To purchase replacement filters, visit your local retailer or www.petsafe.net.

FOUNTAIN: CLEAN ONCE A WEEK

The fountain must be cleaned on a regular basis to continue working normally.

  1. Unplug the fountain and disconnect the inline plug (Fig. 8).

  2. Carefully lift the tower and allow the water to slowly pour back into the bowl. Once all the water has been emptied into the lower bowl, set the tower aside for cleaning (Fig. 9).

  3. Take the tower and turn upside down to remove the rubber grommet. Grab the grommet from inside and pull straight down, set aside for cleaning.

  4. Remove the filter housing case from the pump by lifting straight up (Fig. 10).

Open the case and remove the filter from inside. Set the filter housing aside for cleaning.

  5. Remove the rubber cap affixed to the raised post by inserting a finger under the lip and pull straight up to remove (Fig. 11).

  6. While securely holding the cord and the bottom of the bowl with both hands, dump out the remaining water inside the bowl into a sink.

  7. With the inline plug disconnected and water removed, grab the pump and lift straight up to disengage the suction cups. Continue  pulling the pump’s cord up and out through the raised post in the center of the bowl. Once the pump is completely removed from the bowl seperate the foam filter, set pump aside for proper cleaning.

  8. Once the fountain is completely disassembled, you will have: the ceramic bowl and tower, two rubber pieces, the filter housing case, a charcoal filter, foam filter and the pump.

  9. Clean the fountain parts with soap and warm water. You can also place the fountain in the dishwasher, but we strongly recommend hand washing the ceramic fountains. Never place the pump in the dishwasher. See the Pump Maintenance section of this manual for detailed instructions on how to properly clean your pump.

Cleaning the pump is essential to the longevity of the fountain as well as the
cleanliness of the water. Clean the pump every 2 weeks.

  1. Remove the pump from the fountain as explained in the Filters and Fountain Cleaning section (Steps 6 & 7).

  2. Remove the faceplate by using your thumb and forefinger to gently squeeze on both sides of the plate and pull off. It may be necessary to insert a fingernail or other slim object into the seam of the faceplate to pry it off.

  3. Next, remove the stator by placing your fingernail underneath the small lip located on the narrow side of  teardrop-shaped stator (Fig. 12

and pull out to remove (Fig. 13).

  4. Once the stator is removed, remove the impeller (3 bladed propeller). The impeller is held in place by a magnet, simply insert a fingernail or other slim object underneath the plastic blade and lift out (Fig. 14, Pg 9).

  5. Once the pump is completely disassembled, you can clean the parts with soap and warm water. Use a cotton swab or bottle brush to get inside the pump’s cavity and remove any build up (Fig. 15).

For added disinfecting and/or hard water removal, clean the pump with white vinegar.

  6. Once the parts are clean and well rinsed, you can reassemble the pump for use.
    a) Replace the impeller
    b) Replace the stator
    c) Replace the intake plate

Fountain Reassembly

  1. Place the pump inside the foam filter (Fig. 1, Pg 3) then place inside the square indention. Make sure the circular opening on top of the pump is positioned in the bottom left corner (Fig. 16).

Press down on the pump toengage the suction cups. Once the pump is securely in place, feed the cord over and through the raised post and out the notch on the bottom side of the bowl (Fig. 17, Pg 10).

  2. Once the extra slack is removed from the cord, affix the rubber cap over the post to seal off the bowl.

  3. Rinse a new charcoal filter thoroughly in cold water to help remove any excess and loose charcoal dust.

  4. Once the filter is rinsed off, place inside the filter housing case with the larger side facing down. The filter will only fit inside the case one way, if it does not fit, flip it over. Attach the lid to the filter housing case, press down until you hear it snap in place.

  5. Attach the filter housing case to the pump by inserting the raised notch inside the circular opening on top of the pump (Fig. 18).

The opening on top of the filter case should be right next to the raised post.

  6. Reinsert the rubber grommet into the circular opening at the top of the  tower. Place it inside the hole and then gently work the piece into the hole so that the top edge rests flat inside the dish. This will create a seal between the filter housing case and the tower (Fig. 19).

  7. Align the tower with the rectangular indentation inside the bowl and carefully lower it until it rests flat (Fig. 20).

  8. Place the fountain in a desired location. If placing on carpet, tile or wood flooring, use a protective mat or other durable, water resistant surface. This will help protect your floor from any splashing or spills caused by your pet.

  9. Fill the fountain by pouring water directly into the bowl. Leave at least a half inch (1.27 cm) of space between the water level and the rim of the bowl to help control spills and splashing.

  10. Make sure the cord, the adaptor and your hands are completely dry before you plug the fountain in. Connect the inline plug and make sure no silver is showing, then plug the adaptor into an electrical outlet.

The Fountain and Your Environment

Living in a humid environment, you may experience problems with mold or algae, making the fountain feel slimy. Simply soak all of the plastic part(excluding the pump) in a diluted bleach solution for about ten minutes after regular cleaning. We recommend using a mixture of 10% bleach and 90% water. Pour some of the bleach solution inside the pump’s cavity as well for additional disinfecting. Be sure to rinse all the parts very thoroughly to remove all the chlorine. The best way to rinse out the pump’s cavity is to hold it under a weak stream of water. Cleaning the fountain parts with a bleach solution is also a great way to disinfect.

If hard water is an issue where you live, you may see white mineral deposits inside the housing and inside the pump. These mineral deposits may eventually prevent the impeller from turning properly. To avoid having to replace the pump:

a) Clean the pump more frequently
b) Clean with regular white vinegar and let the vinegar soak for several minutes down inside the pump’s cavity
c) Use bottled water
