Product Information
The TOOLEASH is a 105 cm (3.5 ft) extendable drop-prevention tether designed for tools weighing up to 5 kg (11 lb). Please note that this product is not intended for use as personal protective equipment and should not be used for fall protection or work positioning. The TOOLEASH can hold an accidental fall of a tool, but it must not be used to hang a tool or pushed beyond its limits.

Compatibility
Before use, verify that the TOOLEASH is compatible with the other elements of the system in your application. Compatibility refers to good functional interaction between the TOOLEASH and other equipment. Additionally, ensure that the equipment used with the TOOLEASH meets current standards in your country, such as the ANSI 121-2018 tool holder attachment. The TOOLEASH is compatible with tools that have a closed attachment point.

Inspection, points to verify
- Your safety depends upon the integrity of your equipment.
- Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every 12 months.
WARNING: your intensity of use may cause you to inspect your equipment more frequently. Follow the procedures described below.
Before each use
- Check the condition of the webbing and the safety stitching. Look for cuts, wear and damage due to use, to heat, to chemicals…
- Be particularly careful to check for cut or loose threads.
- Verify the absence of any cracks, deformation, marks, wear or corrosion on the pre-installed accessory carabiner. Verify that the gate opens, and that it closes automatically and completely. Check that the locking sleeve locks and unlocks. Verify that the captive pin is present. Check the condition of the STRING.
During use
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its
connections to the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of
equipment are correctly positioned with respect to each other.
Compatibility
Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system
in your application (compatible = good functional interaction).
Equipment used with your TOOLEASH must meet current standards in your country
(e.g. ANSI 121-2018 tool holder attachment).
Compatible with tools having a closed attachment point.
Composition of a drop-prevention system for a tool
The system must be attached to the harness or to an anchor ( WARNING: do not attach it directly to your body).
WARNING: the strength of the system can be near zero if installed poorly
and/or on a bad anchor.
If a tool weighing more than 3 kg (6 lb) is used, we advise you to attach the
system to an anchor, once you have arrived at the workstation.
The maximum length of the drop-prevention system for a tool:
Verify that the total length of your system (tool tether, attachment links and
end-connectors) does not exceed 120 cm (4 ft).
TOOLEASH setup
Tool end
WARNING: do not use the product on sharp or abrasive edges. Make sure
that the tool’s attachment point is strong enough to hold a fall of your tool.
Harness end
Depending on your tool’s weight, attach the TOOLEASH to one of your harness
equipment loops (tools less than 3 kg (6 lb)) or to the INTERFAST’s dedicated
point (tools less than 5 kg (11 lb)).
Usage precautions
- – Check the free space required under the user and to the sides, in order to avoid hitting the ground, an obstacle or a person in case the tool falls. Minimum height of the attachment point
- = maximum length of the drop-prevention system for the tool (120 cm/4 ft) + length of the tool
- + safety margin (50 cm/1.6 ft).
- – The Instructions for Use for each item of equipment used in conjunction with this product must be followed.
- – Any misuse of this product can be dangerous: working at height with unsecured tools poses a risk for any person or thing below.
- – Check that the product does not interfere with the proper functioning of the attached tool.
- – Check that the product does not prevent the user from progressing under safe working conditions.
- – Do not use the product near moving machinery.
- – Make sure the product does not rub against sharp or abrasive surfaces.
- – The NON-PPE pre-installed accessory carabiner must be used only for setting up a dropprevention system for a tool.
Additional Information
When to retire your equipment:
WARNING: an exceptional event can lead you to retire a product after only one use, depending on the type and intensity of usage and the environment of usage (harsh environments, marine environments, sharp edges, extreme temperatures, chemicals…).
A product must be retired when:
- It has exceeded its lifespan.
- It has been subjected to a major fall or load.
- It fails to pass inspection. You have any doubt as to its reliability.
- You do not know its full usage history.
- When it becomes obsolete due to changes in legislation, standards, technique or incompatibility with other equipment… Destroy these products to prevent further use.
