INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Overview
The Surface Mount and Direct Bury pedestals are NEMA-3R enclosures. At
installation, do not fasten condliits, raceways or cables to the pedestal.
Form “S* loops with the cables and wires to prevent stress on the wires inside
the enclosure. This ensures that the cables and wires have adequate room to
adjust for grade level changes caused by freezing and thawing cycles, and soil
subsidence. Ground wires are included with the supply conductors, and can be
used o provide the connection to the pedestal’s ground terminal.
Non hinge top models are intended for use with UL/C-UL listed (RTRT/RTRT?7)
receptacles rated at 60A maximum, and UL/C-UL listed switches (WFXV/WFXV7)
rated at 60A maximum. The receptaces are screwed onto the pedestal, and holes
are provided to mount a UL/C-UL listed (QCMZ/QCMZ7) non-metallic outlet box
cover, suitable for wet locations, or a UL/C-UL listed (QCIT/QCIT7) metallic
outlet box cover suitable for use in wet locations. Hinge Top models are
intended for use with UL/C-UL listed (KCXS/KCXS7) GFCI receptacles rated at
30A maximum.
The receptacles are screwed onto the removable receptacle mounting plate.
Splices must be made with proper splicing equipment, materials or kits.
The pedestals are also UL listed as a mounting post. There are no knockout
locations provided. Mounting holes for fixtures or photocells must be drilled
before installation. When fixtures are mounted or raceways are extended from
the top of the pedestal a Myers hub, sealing locknut, or sealing washer must
be used.
Models with a Base – Surface Mount
Model numbers that begin with: 1PH, 1PS, and 2PH.
These models can accommodate two 1 1/2 in. conduit raceways. There are four
(7/16 in.) holes on the pedestal base, which are secured to a flat surface
with the provided hardware. Models 36 in. and shorter are provided with 1/4
in. anchors, washers, and acorn lug nuts. Models 42 in. and higher are
provided with 3/8 in. anchors, washers, and acon lug nuts.
Models with a height above grade of fewer than 12 in. are for special
applications only, as they do not meet UL Standard 1773, paragraph 5.3.1.“The
distance between the marked final grade level of the mounting post/pedestal
and the lowest live part shall not be less than 12 in.” These models may be
used in applications that extend the height requirement to allow for that 12
in. distance. Examples are concrete columns, piers, indoor installations that
do not reqire a “3R” rating. Low voltage for communication applications, such
as data, voice, Ethernet, or speaker wiring can be located lower than the 12
in. minimum.
Models without a Base – Direct Bury
Model numbers that begin with: 1BH.
Install 24 in. into the ground. If a supporting method is not available, then
use a concrete backil, or an equivalent material.
If concrete is used, the backfil must be placed so that the cables or raceways
do not become embedded in the concrete.
First, cover any cable or raceway with sand or similar backill, so that they
can move independently of the pedestal (see illustration below). Additional
Features:
- Removable front cover, which provides adequate room for raceway placement and wire or cable installation.
- Slots are provided on the sides o provide entry points for raceways and cables.
- Accommodates conduit raceways up to 1 in. through the wire slots, or p to 1 1/2 in. through the bttom.
