Product Information

The ECS4620 series is a stackable switch designed for indoor use. It comes in different models with various port configurations and power options:

  • ECS4620-28T: 28-port L3 Gigabit Ethernet Switch
  • ECS4620-28P: 28-port L3 Gigabit Ethernet Switch with PoE support
  • ECS4620-28F: 28-port L3 Gigabit Ethernet Switch with fiber support

Product Usage Instructions

Unpack the Device and Check the Contents

Make sure you have received all the necessary components, including the switch, rack mounting kit, adhesive foot pads, power cord, console cable, and documentation.

  1. Mount the Device
    • Attach the brackets to the device.
    • Secure the device in a rack using the supplied screws and cage nuts. Note that rack installation requires two people.
    • Alternatively, you can install the device on a desktop or shelf using the adhesive rubber foot pads.
  2. Ground the Device

Ensure that the rack on which the device is mounted is properly grounded and complies with ETSI ETS 300 253. Verify that there is a good electrical connection to the grounding point on the rack.

  1. Connect Power
    • Connect AC Power: Plug the AC power cord into the socket on the rear of the device and connect the other end to an AC power source. Make sure the external AC power requirements for your specific model are met.
    • Connect DC Power (applicable to ECS4620-28T-DC and ECS4620-28F-DC): Before wiring the DC plug, ensure that power to the feed lines is turned off. Connect the 36 VDC power feed wire to the DC plug + pin and connect the ground/return wire to the DC plug – pin.
  2. Verify Device Operation

Check that the device is powered on and functioning correctly after connecting power.

Mount the Device

  1. Attach the brackets to the device.
  2. Use the screws and cage nuts supplied with the rack to secure the device in the rack.

Caution: Installing the device in a rack requires two people. One person should position the device in the rack, while the other secures it using the rack screws.

Note: The device can also be installed on a desktop or shelf using the included adhesive rubber foot pads.

Ground the Device

  1. Ensure the rack on which the device is to be mounted is properly grounded and in compliance with ETSI ETS 300 253. Verify that there is a good electrical connection to the grounding point on the rack (no paint or isolating surface treatment).

Caution

  • The earth connection must not be removed unless all supply connections have been disconnected.
  • The device must be installed in a restricted-access location. It should have a separate protective earthing terminal on the chassis that must be permanently connected to earth to adequately ground the chassis and protect the operator from electrical hazards.

Connect Power

Connect AC Power

  1. Plug one or two AC power cord into the socket on the rear of the device.
  2. Connect the other end of the power cord to an AC power source. Verify that the external AC power requirements for the device can be met as listed below:
    • ECS4620-28T: 100 to 240 V, 50-60 Hz, 1.5 A
    • ECS4620-28P: 100 to 240 V, 50-60 Hz, 10 A
    • ECS4620-28F: 100 to 240 V, 50-60 Hz, 2 A
    • ECS4620-52T: 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz, 2 A
    • ECS4620-52P: 50-60 Hz; 100-127 VAC, 12 A; 200-240 VAC, 6 A
    • ECS4620-28F-2AC: 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz, 2.5 A Per PS
    • ECS4620-52P-2AC: 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz, 12 A Max Per PS
    • Note: For International use, you may need to change the AC line cord. You must use a line cord set that has been approved for the socket type in your country.
    • Caution: Before connecting the device to AC power, the grounding terminal screw, on the device rear panel, must be permanently connected to earth.
  3. If you have purchased an optional Redundant Power Supply for use with the ECS4620 series (except ECS4620-28F-2AC and ECS4620-52P-2AC), connect it to the device and to an AC power source now, following the instructions included with the package.

Connect DC Power

Note: Before wiring the DC plug or connecting power to the device, ensure that power to the feed lines is turned off at the supply circuit breaker or disconnected from the power bus.

Warning: This unit is intended to be supplied by a IEC/UL listed DC power source.

  1. The ECS4620-28T-DC or ECS4620-28F-DC device supports the option of connecting an external 36 to 75 VDC power source to its DC terminal block.
  2. Connect the 36 VDC power feed wire to the DC plug “+” pin.
  3. Connect the ground/return wire to the DC plug “-” pin.

Verify Device Operation

  1. Verify basic device operation by checking the system LEDs. When operating normally, the Power and Diag LEDs should be on green.

Perform Initial Configuration

  1. Connect a PC to the device console port using the included console cable.
  2. Configure the PC’s serial port: 115200 bps, 8 characters, no parity, one stop bit, 8 data bits, and no flow control.
  3. Log in to the CLI using default settings: Username “admin” and password “admin.”

Note: For further information on device configuration, refer to the Web Management Guide and CLI Reference Guide.

Connect Network Cables

  1. For RJ-45 ports, connect 100-ohm Category 5, 5e or better twisted-pair cable.
  2. For the SFP/SFP+ slots, first install SFP/SFP+ transceivers and then connect fiber optic cabling to the transceiver ports. The following transceivers are supported:
    • 1000BASE-SX (ET4202-SX)
    • 1000BASE-LX (ET4202-LX)
    • 1000BASE-EX (ET4202-ZX)
    • 1000BASE-ZX (ET4202-EX)
    • 10GBASE-SR (ET5402-SR)
    • 10GBASE-LR (ET5402-LR)
    • 10GBASE-ER (ET5402-ER)
    • 10GBASE-ZR (ET5402-ZR)
  3. As connections are made, check the port status LEDs to be sure the links are valid. Press the Mode button to change from Ethernet to PoE status:
    • On/Blinking Green — Port has a valid link. Blinking indicates network activity.
    • On Amber — Port is supplying PoE power.
