Product Information
This product is a door lock that can be installed on a door with existing holes. It is important to ensure that the door meets certain requirements for proper installation.
Tools Needed
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Chisel
Door Width Measurement
Measure the width of the door to ensure compatibility with the lock. If the
door is thinner than 1 7/8 inches, the lock will not fit properly.
Backset Measurement
Measure the backset of the door to determine the proper installation position
for the lock.
Hole Sizes Measurement
Measure the sizes of the existing holes on the door to ensure compatibility
with the lock. If the hole sizes are larger or smaller than those specified,
additional steps may be required.
Strike (Door Jamb) Preparation Check
Check the preparation of the door jamb for the strike box and strike. If they
do not fit properly, adjustments may be necessary using a pencil, chisel, and
drill.
Product Usage Instructions
- Measure Door Width If the door is thinner than 1½” or thicker than 1 7⁄ 8”, then the lock will not fit properly on the door.Measure the width of the door using a tape measure. If it is thinner than 1 7/8 inches, the lock will not fit properly.
- Measure for Backset : If existing backset is not 2³⁄₈” or 2³⁄₄”, then the lock will not fit properly on the door.Measure the backset of the door to determine the proper installation position for the lock.
- Measure Hole Sizes If hole sizes are larger than those shown, then the lock will not fit properly on the door. If hole sizes are smaller than those shown, see steps 4 and 5. Measure the sizes of the existing holes on the door. If they are larger or smaller than specified, additional steps may be required.
- If Needed, Enlarge Hole in Door If the hole in the door edge is smaller than 1 inch, use a 1-inch drill bit to enlarge it.
- If Needed, Enlarge Hole in Door Edge If hole in door edge is smaller than 1”, then use 1” drill bit to enlarge hole.
- Check Strike (Door Jamb) Preparation
- a. Place new strike box and strike against door jamb.
- b. If strike box and strike do not fit properly, use pencil to trace around strike box and strike and mark hole positions.
- c. If needed, use chisel and drill to correct door jamb preparation
Check the preparation of the door jamb for the strike box and strike. If they do not fit properly, use a pencil to trace around them and mark hole positions. If necessary, use a chisel and drill to correct the door jamb preparation.
