LED Trim Compatibility

Juno Retrofit LED Trim Compatibility in Recessed Cans

Juno Retrofit LED trims are designed to work with most standard UL listed recessed incandescent housings. When used with standard medium base incandescent housings, the medium base socket adaptor must be used. Housing compatibility can be determined by measuring the recessed housing diameter and height as shown in the diagram. Refer to the chart for compatible size ranges. Housing construction features vary. The height and diameter chart should be used as a guideline. Actual installation is the best method of determining compatibility.

INSTALLATION STEPS

Step 1: PREPARE FOR FIXTURE INSTALLATION

  1. Ensure input power is 120V, 60Hz, supply wires are rated for at least 90°C (194°F), and power is disconnected by turning OFF the circuit breaker or by removing the appropriate fuse at the fuse box.
  2. If necessary, remove old ballast.
  3. Read the entirety of the installation instructions manual prior to installation.

Step 2: DETERMINE WIRING METHOD (SELECT ONE WIRING METHOD)

  • E26 Socket Adapter:
    • Screw Adapter into the base socket inside Housing.
    • Plug Orange Connector of Adapter into the fixture’s mating Orange Connector.
  • LED Connector:
    1. Plug Orange Connector from the fixture into the mating LED connector inside Housing.

Step 3: INSTALL UNIT(S) INTO RECESSED HOUSING(S)

  1. Squeeze legs of each Torsion Spring together and seat them inside the torsion brackets of the Housing. Release springs, and gently push module into housing until flush with ceiling.
  2. Repeat this step for each additional unit. Ensure “SATELLITE” Units are located within 30 ft. of the “MASTER” Unit.

Step 4: SET UP EACH INSTALLED FIXTURE FOR SMART LIGHTING CONNECTIVITY

  1. Ensure each unit installed is connected properly. Then, connect power back to fixtures by returning the circuit breaker to ON or by returning the appropriate fuse at the fuse box.
  2. When power is first returned to the fixture, the light output will be set to max brightness at 3000K.
  3. Download the SmartThings app (made by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.) on your smart device.
    • Make sure your smart device has the most recent version of the app downloaded.
    • Note: A Samsung SmartThings account must be created within the app to continue with the smart fixture set-up process.
  4. For each fixture installed, connect the fixture to the SmartThings app by selecting “Add Device” or the “ + ” sign and using one of the prompts below to connect the fixture.
    • Scan a QR code
    • Use your smart device’s camera to scan SmartThings QR code on side of device
    • Note: Be sure to not scan the Installation Instructions QR code also present on device’s trim.
    • Scan for nearby devices
    • Select “Juno Connect” device by pressing “add” on desired fixture to set up
    • Note: Only one fixture can be set up at a time. If multiple fixtures need to be set up, this step will need to be repeated
    • By Brand
    1. Scroll to Juno Brand and select
    2. Select :”Lighting” option
    3. Select “Juno Connect” option
  5. Proceed with steps prompted by SmartThings app to complete device set-up.
  6. Repeat steps 4.1-4.5 for each device installed.

Note: Steps 4.1-4.6 is required if the user would like to create speaker grouping or alter light output of the fixture. If the user prefers to keep the fixture at 3000K at max brightness and only utilize speaker control for the singular fixture, Step 4 and all the following steps may be skipped. For full functionality of the fixture, continue with the installation process.

Note: The SmartThings app is only one of the multiple ways for the fixture to be controlled using Smart features. This device can also be operated through Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings hubs. However, the device must be set up first using steps 4.1-4.6 prior to setting up the device with other smart hubs. Please reference the quick start guide found at https://postsales.acuitybrands.com/qr/?sn=*279GR0 for information setting up the smart fixture to other hubs.

Step 5:  SET UP SPEAKER GROUPING

Note

  • Every fixture installed can be set as a “MASTER” unit or “SATELLITE” unit. This is done by toggling the light output of the fixture prior to speaker group set-up described in the following instructions noted in Step 5. In each speaker group, only one fixture can be the “MASTER” unit, and the rest will be “SATELLITE” units.
  • Step 5 is only required if multiple units will be paired together for audio control. If the user would like to play audio from a singular fixture, this section can be skipped.
  1. Determine which fixture in the speaker group is optimal to be selected as the “MASTER” unit. The remaining units in the speaker group will be “SATELLITE” units.
    • Note: The fixture selected to be the “MASTER” unit is recommended to be the unit the most centrically located in perspective of all of fixtures in the desired speaker group. The “MASTER” unit will be the only fixture the user’s smart device will be connected to for audio control of the speaker group. The “MASTER” unit will broadcast audio to the surrounding “SATELLITE” units in the speaker group. If a “SATELLITE” unit is over 30 ft away from the “MASTER” unit, audio may sound distorted. If the smart device for audio control is over 30 ft from the “MASTER” unit, the entire speaker group’s audio may sound distorted.
  2. To set-up “MASTER” and “SATELLITE” units, the use of the SmartThings app or a Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or SmartThings hub is required. Set the power to “On” for the desired “MASTER” unit, and set the power to “Off” for the remaining units to be set as “SATELLITE” units. Only the desired “MASTER” unit should be illuminated before proceeding to step 5.3.
    • Note: The switch sending power to the fixtures in the room must remain “ON” during step 5.2 of the speaker group creation. Toggling the fixtures “On” or “Off” must be done through the SmartThings app or Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or SmartThings hub for step 5.2 of the installation instructions.
  3. Once step 5.2 is completed, perform a power cycle to the fixtures in the speaker group. This is done by toggling the switch powering the fixtures in the room “Off” and then back “On”, again. When the switch is turned “Off”, wait 5 seconds before turning the switch back “On”.
    • Note: Wall dimmer switches are not compatible with the speaker light. Do not use a wall dimmer switch to control the power cycling of the fixture. Dimming is controlled through the SmartThings app or Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or SmartThings hub.
  4. If the speaker group set-up was completed successfully, the “MASTER” unit’s light output will show a blue light, and the “SATELLITE” units will show a green light. If any units show a red light, the speaker grouping process was not completed successfully. f there is more than 1 fixture in the speaker group that has blue light, multiple fixtures are set as “MASTER” units and will cause issues for audio grouping. If either of these issues are present, please refer to the Trouble Shooting guide below to re-attempt speaker grouping successfully.
  5. Once the speaker group has been set up correctly, audio can now be played throughout the newly created speaker group. Navigate to the smart device’s Bluetooth settings, and connect to the device named “Juno Speaker” for audio control.
    • Note: Only the smart device (Smart Phone, Tablet, etc.) can be used for volume control and audio control of the speaker. SmartThings hub, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home only control light output. Ensure the “Juno Speaker” device is selected for the streaming service the smart device plays audio through.
