The Pool and Spa Transformers VLT600150 and VLT600300 are electrical
transformers specifically designed for use in pool and spa lighting systems.
These transformers are manufactured by Blue Square Manufacturing and are used
to convert the primary input voltage of 120VAC to a lower output voltage of
either 150W or 300W.
The transformers come with a package that includes:
- (1) Transformer
- (2) Screws
- (2) Anchors
The dimensions of the transformer are:
- Width: 10.75 inches
- Depth: 8.78 inches
- Height: 11.5 inches
Product Usage Instructions
Determine The Load
Prior to installing the transformer, it is important to determine the load requirements. The circuit loads should not exceed 80% of the transformer’s capacity. To calculate the total wattage, add up the wattage of all the light fixtures. The total wattage should be 20% less than the transformer’s wattage capacity. If the total wattage exceeds the capacity, a secondary or larger transformer may be required.
Determine Wire Gauge
To determine the appropriate wire gauge for your lighting job, refer to the provided tables in the user manual. The tables provide information on the recommended wire gauge based on the distance between the transformer and the light fixtures.
For VLT600150 (150W Output):
Distance (Feet) | Wire Gauge | Voltage (VAC) |
---|---|---|
5 | 2#6AWG | 13VAC |
10 | 2#8AWG | 13VAC |
20 | 2#10AWG | 13VAC |
30 | 2#12AWG | 13VAC |
40 | 2#14AWG | 15VAC |
For VLT600300 (300W Output):
Distance (Feet) | Wire Gauge | Voltage (VAC) |
---|---|---|
5 | 2#6AWG | 13VAC |
10 | 2#8AWG | 13VAC |
20 | 2#10AWG | 13VAC |
30 | 2#12AWG | 13VAC |
40 | 2#14AWG | 13VAC |
50 | 2#14AWG | 13VAC |
Mount Transformer
Choose a suitable location for mounting the transformer. Use the top and bottom keyholes on the transformer as a guide for marking the desired location. Drill holes on the marks and insert wall anchors. Thread the screw into the top keyhole and hang the transformer on it. Place a screw through the bottom keyhole and secure both screws using a screwdriver.
Remove Front Cover
To access the internals of the transformer, loosen the two screws on the side to remove the front cover.
Remove Inside Cover
Remove the inside cover from the holder to expose the wiring and terminals of the transformer.
Install Conduit Adapter
- Install the conduit adapter and flexible cord connector to provide a secure connection for the electrical wiring.
- For more detailed installation and maintenance instructions, please refer to the complete user manual available at www.bluesquaremfg.com.
INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE
Important Safety Instructions: Read Before Installation
Installation, Operating and Safety Instructions
Instructions for installation and use of this product are provided by the
manufacturer.
- Proper installation, wiring, servicing method.
- Installation instructions shall include a swimming pool junction box that shall be installed between the power unit and the luminaire if the power unit intended for connection to conduit which extends directly to the forming shell of a wet-nicheluminaire or the mounting bracket of a no-niche luminaire or an underwater pool light.
Determine The Load
The general capacity should have been determined prior to purchasing the
transformer. Circuit loads should not exceed 80% of capacity. As a general
rule, total light fixture wattage should not exceed 80% of transformer
capacity. To determine the total wattage, simply add up the wattage of all
fixture lamps. This number should be 20% less than the transformer’s wattage
capacity. If you are over capacity, your installation may require a secondary
or larger transformer.
Determine Wire Gauge
The following tables are to help you determine what size cable is needed for
your lighting job.

Product Dimensions
-
Mount Transformer
-
Determine the desired location for mounting the transformer. Mark on the desired location using the top and bottom keyhole as a guide. Drill holes on the marks and insert the wall anchors.
-
Thread the screw into the top keyhole. Leave enough of the screw out to hang the transformer on. Hang the top keyhole onto the screw. Then place a screw through the bottom keyhole. Secure both the bottom and top screw using a screwdriver.
-
Remove Front Cover
Loosen the two screws on the side to remove the front cover from the transformer.
-
Remove Inside Cover
Remove the inside cover from the holder.
-
Install Conduit Adapter
Install the conduit adapter and flexible cord connector to the transformer.
-
Wiring Main Supply Wires
-
Pass the main supply cables through the conduit and insert them into the supply wire compartment of the transformer. Then fit the conduit to the conduit adapters. Using UL listed wire connectors (sold separately), connect the black main supply wire to the black wire from the transformer, connect the white main supply wire to the white wire from the transformer and connect the green main supply wire to the green wire (ground) from the transformer.
-
Apply duct seal to main supply wire exits on conduit adapters properly to seal them against moisture.
-
Wiring Fixture Supply Wires
-
Pass fixture supply cables (from pool or spa light) through another conduit and insert them into the transformer. Then fit the conduit to the conduit adapters. Strip both ends of the supply wires.
-
Open the lever and insert one end of the wire into the COM block and the other end into the 13V or 15V block. Close the levers to lock the inserted wires into place.
-
Apply duct seal to the fixture supply wire exits on conduit adapters properly to seal them against moisture.
