To stop the machine in case of emergency

  • Press the emergency button.

To release an emergency stop

  • Turn the emergency button in the direction of the arrow.

  • If pressing any of the emergency buttons, the machine turns off the power automatically. After releasing the emergency button, be sure to turn the sub-power switch on the control section on the front part of the machine off and then back on.

Crash sensor

  • When the carriage interferes with media, a crash sensor detects an error and stops the carriage immediately.

Safety Protection

  • The machine is equipped with a safety protection function. The machine stops if something is detected entering the movable range of the print-head carriage. This function prevents contact with this carriage, which moves at a high speed during printing.

When all the following conditions are met, safety protection stops the machine.

  • The power cord is connected.
  • The main power (①) is on.
  • The sub power (②) is on.
  • The auto switch (③) is set to the on position.
  • (The print-head carriage is not positioned above the maintenance station.)
  • Something enters the detection areas of the proximity sensors (④).

To release a safety protection

  • When safety protection is active, the Anti-collision/emergency stop activation window is displayed on the PrintExp screen.

  • If the safety protection activates during printing, select the check box and click [Resume printing] or [CancelPrint].

  • If the safety protection activates when not printing, select the check box and click [Release].

  • The anti-collision / emergency stop activation is cleared.

Precautions for Maximum Printable Area
Maximum printable area: Width 2440 mm [96 in.] (①) × Length 1120 mm [44 in.] (②) × Height 95 mm [3.74 in.]

NOTE

  • The maximum printable area is different from the maximum size of the object to be printed on.
  • The length 1120 mm [44 in.] (②) is the range excluding 0 to 100 mm [0 to 3.94 in.] (④) on the scale on the flat table.

Roland-EU-1000MF-Flatbed-Printer-FIG-15

Important

  • Fully understand the safety precautions before extending the length to the maximum value of 1220 mm [48 in.] (② + ④).
  • When the length is extended, the floor may be subjected directly to UV radiation, which increases the risk of exposure to this radiation.

WARNING

  • To prevent light from entering your eyes, do not lean over or look directly at the UV lamp.
  • Stay more than 1 m (39.4 in.) away from the UV lamp.

Precautions for UV Lamp

DANGER

  • Do not place paper or cloth on the UV lamp or bring flammable objects close to the UV lamp. Doing so might cause fire or smoke.

WARNING

  • Do not look directly at the UV lamp or apply the UV lamp to your skin. The UV lamp emits harmful ultraviolet (UV) light that might cause serious burns to your skin or eyes. Although you may feel the effect of a heat burn immediately, you might not feel a UV burn for several hours. Being exposed to radiation from the lamp for only a short time means it is likely that your skin or eyes are seriously burnt. UV burns will affect the cornea, and you will need medical treatment. A UV burn is the same as a welding burn, and you will feel something unwashable in your eyes when having a UV burn. This pain is temporary. Be very careful because receiving strong UV radiation is likely to result in the loss of your eyesight.
  • Being exposed to UV radiation for a certain period of time will cause erythema on normal skin. As the UV radiant quantity reaching the Malpighian layer is very small, such erythema is transient and unlikely to cause a blister or sunburn. Be very careful because receiving strong UV radiation is likely to result in a serious burn on your skin.
  • This machine emits UV radiation and conforms to IEC 62471 RISK GROUP 3. Do not expose your eyes and skin to this machine as it is not shielded from light.
  • Do not touch the UV lamp. As it becomes very hot, touching the UV lamp might cause injury or burns.
  • When touching a hot section, make sure to protect your hands by wearing heat-resistant gloves, etc.

Clothing and Equipment of Certified Operators

  • To prevent UV light from striking your body directly, wear clothing and equipment that reduces the amount of exposed skin.
  • You must not perform work while wearing the items shown below. They may be caught in the moving parts of this machine.
  • Hooded sweatshirts and other such clothing with drawstrings
  • Clothing with wide sleeves
  • Neckties, scarves, and mufflers
  • Ornamentations such as arm rings and necklaces
