  • When moved from one location to another where the temperature and/or humidity are very different, water droplets (condensation) may form inside the unit. Damage or malfunction may result if you attempt to use the unit in this condition. Therefore, before using the unit, you must allow it to stand for several hours until the condensation has completely evaporated.
  • Do not allow rubber, vinyl, or similar materials to remain on this unit for long periods of time. Such objects can discolor or otherwise harmfully affect the finish.
Maintenance
  • For everyday cleaning wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth or one that has been slightly dampened with water. To remove stubborn dirt, use a cloth impregnated with a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Afterward, be sure to wipe the unit thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth.
As routine maintenance, you should wipe the striking surface using a dry, soft cloth.

  • Never use benzine, thinners, alcohol, or solvents of any kind, to avoid the possibility of discoloration and/or deformation.

Additional Precautions
  • Use a reasonable amount of care when using the output jacks. Rough handling can lead to malfunctions.
  • When connecting/disconnecting all cables, grasp the connector itself—never pull on the cable. This way you will avoid causing shorts, or damage to the cable’s internal elements.
  • To avoid disturbing your neighbors, try to keep the unit’s volume at reasonable levels. You may prefer to use headphones, so you do not need to be concerned about those around you.
  • This instrument is designed to minimize the extraneous sounds produced when it’s played. However, since sound vibrations can be transmitted through floors and walls to a greater degree than expected, take care not to allow these sounds to become a nuisance to neighbors, especially when using headphones.
  • When you need to transport the unit, package it in the box (including padding) that it came in, if possible. Otherwise, you will need to use equivalent packaging materials.
  • If the surface of the beater you are using is not clean, the material used for the striking surface could get dirty. Before performances, make sure that the beater is clean before you use it.

Check to be sure they’re making contact with the floor

  • Depending on how you’re using the unit, the bolts that attach the pedal to the plate could become loose, causing the pedal to rattle during the performance. In such cases, use commercially available tools to tighten the bolts.

When Using a Twin Pedal

  • Position the two beaters equally apart from the center of the pad as shown in the figure.
  • If one of the beaters is further away from the center than the other, the sound from the further beater will be lower in volume, or will not sound as desired.
  • Using a twin pedal will result in lower sensitivity as compared to when a single pedal is used. Raise the sensitivity on the sound module.

Adjusting the Anchor Bolts

When using the kick pedal on a carpet or on a drum mat (TDM series), the slip- prevention tape that’s on the base should prevent the KD-9 from moving around. However, if that’s not enough to keep the KD-9 in a fixed position, you can adjust things so that the tips of the anchor bolts protrude through the base. That should keep it in place and make it easier for you to play.

  • When used on flooring, the anchor bolts may damage the floor. Adjust the anchor bolts correctly.
  • The tips of the anchor bolts are sharp. Handle with care.Roland-KD-9-V-Drum-Kick-Pad-Electronic-Drum-Percussion-fig-5

Connecting to a Percussion Sound Module

  • To prevent malfunction and/or damage to speakers or other devices, always turn down the volume, and turn off the power on all devices before making any connections. Use the connection cable to connect the KD-9 to your percussion sound module (e.g., TD-20X).
Connect the L-shaped plug of the cable to the KD-9’s output jack.

  • Make sure KD-9 does not touch the drum stand or other pads.

Recommended Percussion Sound Module Parameter Settings

Below you will find recommended trigger parameters when using the KD-9 with various sound modules. The trigger parameters should be adjusted as necessary to match the actual state of your configuration, and the environment in which it is being used.

  • For details, refer to the owner’s manual for your percussion sound module.
