Thank you for purchasing the MB-N12 power battery pack. This product is designed to provide additional power to your Z 8 camera when used with up to two EN-EL15c batteries. Please read these instructions carefully before using the product and refer to the documentation provided with the camera.

Parts of the MB-N12: Names and Functions
The following is a list of each part of the MB-N12 and their respective
functions:
- Contact cap: Protects the power and signal contacts of the MB-N12
- Signal contacts: Used for signal transmission
- Power contacts: Used for power transmission
- Attachment wheel: Used for attaching the MB-N12 to the camera
- Mounting screw: Used for securing the MB-N12 to the camera
- Charging connector: Used for charging batteries or powering the camera with an optional EH-7P charging AC adapter
- Charging cover connector: Used to cover the charging connector when not in use
- Holder-chamber cover: Used to cover the battery holder chamber
- Battery-holder chamber: Where the battery holder is inserted
- Battery-holder latch: Locks the battery holder in place after insertion
- Power connector cover: Used with optional EP-5B power connectors
- Tripod socket: Used for attaching the camera to a tripod
- Battery-chamber cover holder: Holds the camera battery-chamber cover while it is removed from the camera
- Main command dial for vertical shooting: Performs the same role as the matching control on the camera for vertical shooting
- Sub-command dial for vertical shooting: Performs the same role as the matching control on the camera for vertical shooting
- Shutter-release button for vertical shooting: Used for taking photos in vertical orientation
- Multi selector for vertical shooting: Performs the same role as the multi selector on the camera for vertical shooting
Product Usage Instructions
- Ensure that your camera is compatible with the MB-N12 power battery pack before use.
- Insert up to two EN-EL15c batteries into the battery holder chamber of the MB-N12.
- Securely attach the MB-N12 to your camera using the attachment wheel and mounting screw.
- If using an optional EH-7P charging AC adapter, connect it to the charging connector and charge the batteries as needed.
- Use the camera controls or the matching controls on the MB-N12 vertical shooting as desired.
- Refer to the documentation provided with the camera for further on using the MB-N12 power battery pack.

Thank you for purchasing an MB-N12 power battery pack.
Up to two EN-EL15c batteries can be inserted in the MB-N12 to provide power
when the battery pack is attached to a Z 8. Use the MB-N12 with compatible
cameras only.
Before using this product, please read these instructions carefully. You will
also need to consult the documentation provided with the camera.

Do not mishandle batteries.
Failure to observe the following precautions could result in the batteries leaking, overheating, rupturing, or catching fire:- Use only rechargeable batteries approved for use in this product.
- Do not expose batteries to flame or excessive heat.
- Do not disassemble.
- Do not short-circuit the terminals by touching them to necklaces, hairpins, or other metal objects.
- Do not expose batteries or the products in which they are inserted to powerful physical shocks.
- Do not step on batteries, pierce them with nails, or strike them with hammers.

If battery liquid comes into contact with the eyes, rinse with plenty of clean water and seek immediate medical attention. Delaying action could result in eye injuries.

Follow the instructions of airline personnel. Batteries left unattended at high altitudes in an unpressurized environment may leak, overheat, rupture, or catch fi re.

Discontinue use immediately should you notice any changes in the batteries, such as discoloration or deformation.
Cease charging EN-EL15c rechargeable batteries if they do not charge in the specified period of time.

When batteries are no longer needed, insulate the terminals with tape. Overheating, rupture, or fi re may result should metal objects come into contact with the terminals.

- If battery liquid comes into contact with a person’s skin or clothing, immediately rinse the affected area with plenty of clean water. Failure to observe this precaution could result in skin irritation.

Control lock| Locks the controls on the MB-N12 to prevent accidental
operation.
The control lock is not a power switch. Use the power switch on the camera to
turn the camera on or off.
Battery holder| The battery holder holds up to two EN-EL15c
rechargeable Li-ion batteries.

Attaching the MB-N12
Before attaching the MB-N12, turn the camera off . You will also need to rotate the control lock to the L position.
- Remove the contact cap from the battery pack. Keep the contact cap in a safe place.
- Remove the battery-chamber cover from the bottom of the camera (Figure 2) and place it in the battery-chamber cover holder on the MB-N12 (Figure 3).
If a battery is inserted in the camera, remove it.
- Attach the MB-N12 to the camera (Figure 4).
Rotate the attachment wheel in the direction shown by the FLOCK arrow to secure the battery pack in place. Secure the MB-N12 in place by tightening the attachment wheel.
D Removing the MB-N12
To remove the MB-N12, turn the camera off , then loosen the attachment wheel
by turning it in the direction opposite to that used to attach it. After
removing the MB-N12, remove the battery-chamber cover from the battery-chamber
cover holder and reattach it to the camera.
- Reattach the contact cap to the MB-N12 when the battery pack is not in use.
Inserting Batteries in the MB-N12
The MB-N12 can be used with up to two EN-EL15c rechargeable Li-ion
batteries. Before inserting the batteries, turn the camera off . You will also
need to rotate the control lock to the L position.

Keeping the holder-chamber latch pressed, slide the holder-chamber cover to the side and then swing it open (Figure 5).

Press the battery-holder latch in the direction shown and remove the battery holder (Figure 6).

Insert the batteries in the battery holder (Figure 7). Insert the batteries in the orientations shown in Figure 7. The battery latch will click into place when the battery in Chamber A is fully inserted.

Insert the battery holder terminals first (Figure 8). Using the bottom of the battery holder to depress the battery holder latch, slide the battery holder into the chamber. Stop when the latch clicks back into place.

Close the holder-chamber cover and latch it by pressing and sliding it in the direction shown (Figure 9).
Removing the Batteries
Remove the holder and then remove the batteries as shown (Figure 10).
Exchanging the Battery in Chamber A
The battery in Chamber A can be exchanged without removing the battery holder.
Insert the battery as shown, stopping when the latch clicks into place (Figure
11). The battery in Chamber A can be removed by pressing the latch as shown in
Figure 12 and sliding the battery from the holder.
Exchanging Batteries While Shooting
When two batteries are inserted, you can replace the battery in Chamber A
without turning the camera off . You may fi nd this useful when using the
camera continuously for extended periods.
Be careful not to press the battery-holder latch and remove the battery holder
while exchanging batteries.
A Battery Order
- If you are using only one battery, it can be inserted in either chamber.
- When two batteries are inserted, the battery in Chamber A will be used first. The camera will switch to the battery in Chamber B when the battery in Chamber A is exhausted.

Level of the Batteries in the MB-N12
The level of the batteries in the MB-N12 is shown in the camera shooting
display and control panel.
Precautions for Use
Observe the following precautions when using the MB-N12.
- Touching the power/signal contacts with metal objects could cause a short-circuit; reattach the contact cap before storing or transporting the battery pack or charging the batteries with the pack not attached to the camera.
- A warning may appear in the camera shooting display if the MB-N12 is not securely attached. You may be able to resolve the issue by tightening the attachment wheel to secure the MB-N12 in place.
- The camera memory card access lamp may light when the MB-N12 is attached to or removed from the camera.
- When using the camera with both the MB-N12 and an optional FTZ mount adapter attached, connect tripods to the tripod mount on either the lens or the MB-N12, not to the tripod mount on the FTZ.
- The MB-N12 is not equipped with a power switch. Use the camera power switch to
turn the camera on and off
If the Holder-Chamber Cover Detaches
In order to protect the holder-chamber cover from damage, it may detach if
force is applied while it is open. The holder-chamber cover can be re-attached
as shown in Figure 13.
- Before re-attaching the holder-chamber cover, orient it so that the hinge is visible.

Low Ambient Temperatures
The camera may not function at low temperatures (approximately 10 °C/50 °F or
below) when powered by partially-charged batteries. In cold weather, charge
one set of batteries before use and keep another in a warm place, ready to be
exchanged as necessary. Once warmed, cold batteries may recover some of their
charge.
Out of concern for the environment, Nikon is working to reduce its use of
paper.
