9i-906 Silver Fox Headphone Amplifier
9i-906 “Silver Fox” is a headphone amplifier with high performance, strong
power supply and high current output. It’s circuit design is complex and
perfect , 4 pairs of high-power FET made in British are used in output part,
the output power is 30Ω/20W. Ultra low sensitivity headphones can be driven
with excellent audio performance.
It has four output modes: Normal, Balanced(BTL), Vir tual Ground(Active G) and
Parallel, as well as three low resistance modes and one high resistance mode.
A variety of headphones can be matched .
It has two balanced and two unbalanced inputs . Even if you input an
unbalanced signal, the internal circuit will conver t it into balanced signal
. Therefore you input an unbalanced signal you will also get the maximum
output power.
“Silver Fox” has four output inter faces: 4 pin XLR balanced, 6.35 single ,
4.4 balanced as well as double 3 pin XLR balanced .
Precautions Before Use
- This device uses ~220V or ~110V 50Hz AC, please check your power supply before use. If your power supply does not meet the requirements, the device will be damaged.
- Do not use the unit in a humid environment, not allow contact with liquid in any case!
- The device generates heat during use so that the surface temperature may reach 55 degrees or more in summer, so you must used this device in an open and ventilated environment instead of closed.
- Do not open the cover in any case to avoid electric shock unless professional .
- The switch behind is the main power swith. You must turn it OFF if you don’t use device for a long times.
Packing List
- 9i-906 host : 1
- Power cord(American standard) : 1
- Certificate / Warranty Card : 1
9i-906 Panel
-
Double XLR headphone jack.
-
6.35mm headphone jack, can be connected to headphones.
-
4.4mm headphone jack, can be connected to headphones.
-
Input Selection . you can choose a input among these:
-
Power switch. When the power main switch behind turn on, this button can switched between power on and stand-by.
-
Output mode selection. Total of 4 output modes : Normal, BTL, Parallel, and Active G.
BTL has a strong driving ability, Parallel is relatively stable, and the Active G is suitable for human voice because of better overtone .
Press and hold this button for 3 seconds to switch between high impedance and 3 low impedance mode. When your headphone is low impedance or high sensitivity, please select one of 3 low resistance modes . If you don’t feel slight noise the high impedance is highly recommended. -
The XLR four-core headphone balanced jack can be connected to headphones which with balanced line. The balanced output mode has stronger driving force so it can drive high-impedance headphones.
-
Volume knob.
The knob can control the volume . In order to prevent sudden increase of volume , the function of protecting was built . If the volume jump to maximum for some reason or you turn the knob to the maximum accidentally , the protection will be activated automatically and volume will jump to -20db. You must adjust the knob below -20db before using the knob to increase the volume directly.
9i-906 Panel
- Unbalanced analog signal (rca) and balance analog (XLR) input.
- The main power switch should be placed in OFF when not use for a long time.
- Power socket. 9i-906 is available two voltage versions: ~110V 50Hz and ~220V 50Hz. You have to check that the local voltage matches the input voltage logo on the back of the device!
Four output modes, High / Low impedance, Let the headset get the best state
BTL
The advantage is to get enough driving force
Recommended for high impedance headset| Active G
Very characteristic with a stronger sense of overtone
It is very suitable for listening to human voice.
Parallel
Increases the driving force but does not increase the gain.
It is very effective to drive headphones with medium impedance| Normal
Normal Mode which was generally used by low impedance headset
Out put mode is determined by the user according to the actual listening effect. Press the “OUT” button on the panel to switch them . There are 2 points to note:
- If headphone has balance connector , all 4 kinds of connection can be activated. If headphone has single-ended connector , only Normal and Parallel mode can be activated, at this time if you select BTL and Active G , it is actually in Normal mode.
- When the input is RCA , all of 4 connections can be activated also . Because the single-ended signal will become a balanced signal after entering the internal
Please note the following when using
- This device is a fully balanced headphone amplifier. Even if the input is single-ended signal, the balanced signal can be out put to headphone. Since conversion of single-ended to balanced will slightly affect the sound quality, it is recommended that you give priority to balanced signal input when using this device.
- If you use RCA to input single-ended signals, because the balance conversion has a little gain, you may feel that the sound will become louder, which is normal.
- If you use RCA input single-ended signal, the noise floor may be slightly larger. When the RCA input terminal is not connected to the audio source, a large noise floor may be out put. It is normal. After connecting the audio source with the signal cable, the noise floor will disappear.
- Although this device has multiple headphone output interfaces, they are all connected in parallel. It is recommended to use a pair of headphones at the same time for the best sound quality.
- Due to the large use of mobile phone chargers and various single-ended rectified electrical equipment, the quality of the power grid is poor. There are DC components in the power grid and the waveform is distorted, which will cause the transformer to hum. The higher the performance of the transformer, the weaker the resistance to DC components and the more severe the hum. In this case, you can use the “de-DC socket” which can effectively eliminate the DC component in the power grid.
