Instruction Manual

In an effort to ensure product quality, this device has been subjected to a burn test. Some discoloration on the burner section, the ventilator, etc. is normal.

Before using this product, be sure to read these instructi0ns carefully and use the product correctly and safely. Keep these instructions for future reference.

Caution! Changes in atmospheric pressure (at high altitudes} and temperature conditions (low temperatures) may cause the igniter to fail to light the lantern. Under these conditions, be sure to carry matches or a lighter.

Installing the Fuel Canister

Turn the flame adjustment control clockwise (to the right when viewed from the front) to completely shut off the gas feed.
Hold the fuel canister upright and carefully screw the threaded section on the bottom of the collar assembly into the threaded, top of the canister. Turn clockwise when viewed from the bottom of the cartridge. The fuel canister should smoothly connect with the collar assembly. Tighten firmly, but do not overtighten! Check that no gas is leaking from the connecting parts by listening, for escaping gas and sniffing to detect any odor of gas.

Caution! A small amount of gas will escape when installing or removing the fuel canister. To avoid danger of fire or flash ignition, never remove or install the fuel canister near open flame or sparks, or in a confined space with poor .ventilation.

Installing the Fuel Canister

Before installing the cartridge, check the! both the threaded mount on the collar assembly and the 0-ring are in good condition. If there is any damage or anomalies on either part, do not install the cartridge.

If there is a leak on your appliance{smell of Gas),take out outside immediately into a well ventilated flame free location where the leak may be detected and stopped.
If you wish to check for leaks on your appliance, do it outside.
Do not try to detect leaks using a flame, use soapy water.

Installing the Mantle

Hold the lantern in the upright position.

Push the globe retainer clips up, remove the guard wires and ventilator and lilt off the globe. (Be careful not to drop the globe!
Place the mantle over the burner head so that the large hole faces down and the small hole fa1ce:s up. Check that the mantle 1s firmly seated on the necks (smaller diameter sections}of the burner head.
Adjust the shape by gently pulling on the edges of the mantle until the entire assembly looks like a rhombus in shape.
With the gas off, touch the flame of a match or lighter to the bottom of the mantle so that the entire surface is burning uniformly. When the mantle burns white up to the top, turn on the gas fully and continue burning.(lf this preliminary burn is done without removing the globe, the inside surface of the globe will be discolored by brown soot.
Adjust the gas to a level where the mantle assumes a perfectly round shape and the mantle glows brightly.
When the mantle is burning well, extinguish the flame, and carefully replace the globe and ventilator on the burner. Be careful not to break or damage the mantle.

Smoke with an irritating odor will be emitted when doing the preliminary burn of the mantle. Be sure to this outdoors do.
Also, be careful not to inhale the smoke.
Once lit, the mantle is fragile and breaks easily. Do not touch or poke the mantle with your finger or with matches.
Use only the GP-001 mantle designed for this lantern. The mantle is a consumable item. Always carry a spare mantle.

Caution! Inspect the mantle carefully before igniting If the mantle has a hole in it or is otherwise damaged or broken, the escaping flame may cause the globe to discolor or deform, or crack and break as a result of abnormal overheating, leading to failure or accident. In this case, be sure to replace with a new mantle immediately.

Operating Instructions

Lighting the lantern

Slowly turn the adjustment control to the left (counterclockwise} to allow a small amount of gas to flow. Light by positioning the igniter button several times. When using a match or lighter, it is better to light it first before turning the adjustment control. If the lantern does not light at once, close the adjustment control by turning to the right (clockwise}, and repeat this procedure.

Adjusting the light level

Operating Instructions

Turn the adjustment control to the left (counterclockwise) to increase the flow of gas and make the lantern glow brighter. Turn the adjustment control to the right (clockwise) to decrease the flow of gas and reduce the brightness of the lantern.

Extinguishing the lantern

Tum the adjustment control fully to the right (clockwise}. Check that the flame has gone out completely.

If you need change gas cartridge, Extinguish the lantern and make cool down, then change the gas cartridge outside and away from people.

Removing the Fuel Canister

1. Make sure the flame is completely out. Also, allow the lantern to cool to room temperature before performing this operation.
2. Holding the fuel canister horizontally, remove the canister by turning counterclockwise (the opposite direction of when it was installed).

Storing the Lantern

Folding the adjustment control for storage.

Turn the adjustment control until its wire arms are in a horizontal position.
Fold the wire arms upward until the end rests on the guard wires. The wire arms of the adjustment control are spring loaded to return to position, so be sure to store the lantern with the wire arms in the folded position.

Caution!

When installing the fuel canister on the lantern body, make sure that the adjustment control is turned fully to the right (clockwise} before attempting to install the cartridge.

Precautions for Use

Do not use an appliance which is leaking, damaged or which does not operate properly.

Never use this lantern for any purpose other than lighting.
Clean any dirt, dust or debris adhering to the lantern before use.
Check periodically during use to make sure that the lantern is functioning properly.
Combustion conditions (brightness, sound, etc.) will vary during operation depending on gas pressure. This is normal and is the result of changes in air temperature and in the temperature of the fuel canister.
Strong winds may extinguish the flame during operation.
Do not leave the lantern alone under such conditions.
If any abnormal operation occurs during use, immediately extinguish the flame and stop using the lantern.
Metal parts in contact with the flame and near the flame will discolor as a result of the heat of combustion. This is a normal condition and is not a cause for concern.
Rain or other moisture coming in contact with the hot globe during use or immediately alter use may cause the globe to. crack or break. Be sure to protect the globe from contact with rainwater or other moisture.
Do not use any accessories or fittings other than that which has been specifically designed for this lantern.
The lantern unit will reach high temperatures during use and will remain hot for some time after use. To avoid the risk of burns, do not touch the lantern unit directly.
After use, carefully remove any dirt or debris from the lantern using a clean cloth.

Inspection and Care’

Be sure to perform routine inspection and care before each use.
Check that the threaded sections connected to the valve as well as the O-ring gasket appear normal and are undamaged.
If any wear, abrasion or damage is apparent, return this unit to the dealer it was purchased from or to Snow Peak for repair.
If the burner head becomes dirty, use a clean cloth to clean it. Be careful when cleaning to make sure that no dust or debris is allowed to get in the mixing tube.
Stop using this lantern if anything appears wrong or if the unit sounds strange during operation.
This lantern should be returned to your dealer or to Snow
Peak for repair. Under no circumstances should owners or other unauthorized individuals attempt to make repairs to this product.

Troubleshooting Chart

If checking the above items fails to resolve the problem, return the lantern unit to your dealer or to Snow Peak for inspection and repair.
If the flame cannot be extinguished, make sure it is in a safe location, and allow it to burn until the gas is used up. Then return the unit to your dealer for inspection and possible repair.

Service and Repair

Snow Peak has made every effort to ensure that the product you have purchased is in excellent condition. In the unlikely event that it has a defect, please contact the dealer from whom you purchased the product or Snow Peak.
In the event the cause of the failure is a defect in manufacturing, it will be repaired or replaced at no charge.
In other cases, the product will be repaired for a reasonable charge. Also, repair or replacement shall be at the sole discretion of Snow Peak. In addition, no warranty is provided for damage or breakage as a result of the following causes.

Damage to the product resulting from unforeseen accidents.
Damage to the product resulting from misuse or careless handling.
Deterioration of materials resulting from normal aging.
Damage to the product resulting from defects other than manufacturing defects.
Damage from retrofitted components.

Safety Precautions
This page contains important safety precautions concerning
the use of Snow Peak gas appliances and fuel canisters.
Read them carefully!

Precautions Before Use

Warning!

Warning!

This appliance shall only be used with the Giga power GP-110 or GP-250 cartridges filled with butane/propane mix at vapor pressure. It may be hazardous to attempt to fit other types of gas cartridges.

Reason The valve configuration and pin length are different on fuel canisters from other manufacturers. The use of these cartridges may cause gas leaks and possible ignition of the gas, leading to fire or burns.

Warning!

Do not place or use unit on hot beach sand or river stones, or on paved road surfaces.

Reason Beach sand, river rocks and paved road surfaces can reach extremely high temperatures as a result of exposure to direct sunlight. Placing the unit in direct contact with one of these surfaces will result in increased internal pressure, and lead to the risk of explosion.

Warning!

This unit is for outdoor use only! Never use this unit inside tents, in enclosed spaces, or inside vehicles.

Reason This unit is designed for outdoor use only. Because it consumes large amounts of oxygen, its use will cause an oxygen deficiency in small tents and enclosed _ spaces, and in vehicles leading to carbon monoxide poisoning or fire. Use in these spaces is extremely dangerous.

Danger!

Install the fuel canister by holding the canister upright, aligning the axial line of t_he fuel canister with the threaded section of the collar assembly and carefully turning clockwise (to the right) when viewed from the bottom of the cartridge.
Do not overtighten!

Reason New fuel canisters are filled to the top with liquefied petroleum gas. There is a risk of gas leaks if the fuel canister is installed while the canister is tilted at an angle. Tighten firmly while holding upright (vertical).

If the canister is too tight or if it is turned with too much force, the screw threads will be damaged, leading to a gas leak. Also, when installing the canister, check to make sure that all cigarettes have been extinguished and no other ignition sources are nearby.

Danger!

Inspect the rubber gasket and 0-nng that forms the connection between the collar assembly and the fuel canister Replace with new parts if there is any sign of damage or abrasion.

Reason After long use, the rubber gasket and 0-ring may show signs of wear and tear as a result of temperature fluctuations and high pressures. Leaking gas Is a serious hazard. Inspect these parts regularly.

Caution!
Maintain at least 1 meter vertical and 30 cm horizontal distance from easily combustible materials.

Reason Depending on the direction of the wind. a strong open flame may shift downwards. It will be particularly hot directly above the stove or lantern. Be careful to keep these units far away from flammable materials to eliminate the danger of fire.

Caution!

Make sure that the adjustment control is fully closed (turned all the way to the right) before taking the unit out of its case and installing the fuel canister.

Reason It is possible that the adjustment control may be slightly open as a result of being turned when stowed or as a result of shock or impact during transport. If a fuel canister is installed without the adjustment control being fully closed, gas will invariably escape from the burner unit when the fuel canister is screwed onto the collar assembly. If an ignition source is nearby, there is danger of fire. Be sure to_ check that the adjustment valve is fully closed before installing the fuel canister.

Precautions During Use

Danger!

Never use a windshield, reflecting guard, or stone wall while operating.

Reason If windshield or guard is used, the heat generated by the lantern will build up and the gas cartridge may become too hot and could explode.

Danger!

Never use these units near gas or kerosene heaters, or near open fires.

Reason Heat generated from gas or kerosene heaters and open fires will contribute additional heat, causing the fuel canister to reach high temperatures and may lead to an explosion.

Caution!

Do not tilt or shake the unit while in use, or attempt to move the unitby holding in the hand.

Reason Tilting or shaking the unit may cause the unit to flame excessively, leading to danger of burning the hand.

Caution!

Always set the lantern securely on a stable surface.

Reason It is dangerous to use the lantern on a sloped surface. Tilting of the lantern while in operation may cause the flame to flare up, creating a fire. Use extreme caution.

Caution!

Use the lantern only for a sourc·e of light.

Reason Do not use the lantern for drying clothes, as a source of heat , etc. If an article of clothing should fall on top of the lantern, it may catch fire and burn, causing an oxygen deficiency, and may lead to an accident. Never use the lantern for any purpose other than for what it was intended.

Caution!

After use, always check that the adjustment control is fully turned off in a clockwise direction (firmly turned toward the right).

Reason If the gas flow adjustment control is not turned off fully, small amounts of gas will escape, leading to a fire hazard. Get into the habit of always checking that the control is turned fully off. When the unit will not be used for some time, wait until the unit has cooled to room temperature and then remove the fuel canister from the burner assembly. Do not set the burner assembly on the ground or in a dirty or dusty place. The underside of the burner assembly and the section which couples to the fuel canister have small holes through which the gas passes. If these holes become clogged with dirt or debris, the unit will malfunction or fail.

Precautions for Storage and Disposal

Danger! :
If the lantern will nol be used for a long time, the fuel canister should be removed from the unit.

Reason If the fuel canister remains attached to the stove or lantern unit for a long time, corrosion may occur at the coupling point, generating a potential for gas leaks as a result of the corrosion, a dangerous situation. In addition, the adjustment control may open because of inadvertent jolts, impact, etc. This units should be stowed by separating the fuel canister from the collar assembly and capping the fuel canister.

Danger!
Store and transport fuel canisters at temperatures below 40·c (104°F) under low-moisture conditions and away from direct sunlight.

Reason Temperatures on dashboards and inside trunks can ~½½easily reach ao·cto 1oo·c(1?6°F to 212°F). At these temperatures, the pressure inside fuel canisters will ,.,. l become extremely high, leading to danger or explosion. Never store or leave the fuel canisters 1ns1de a vehicle or in an enclosed space.

Danger!

Never dispose of fuel canisters by throwing empty canisters into a fire.

Reason Minute amounts of gas will remain in fuel canisters even though they have been fully used for cooking or lighting. The danger of explosion of this residual gas is extremely high. Never dispose of the fuel canisters by throwing into a fire . When disposing, first make sure that all of the gas is completely used. Then, take the canister outside to punch several holes in it.

Caution!

Keep out of reach of children.

Reason Children should never be allowed to handle or play with hazardous items. Though unlikely, it is conceivable that gas could escape from the cartridge. Place caps on fuel canisters and store in a place where children cannot reach.

Caution!

Fuel canisters should be inspected periodically.

Reason Inspect fuel canisters periodically. If corrosion is discovered on any canister, that fuel canister should be used immediately. Corrosion may lead to danger of a gas leak.

Caution!

Inspect after every use. Store lantern unit in its case.

Reason Dust, fluids, etc., adhering to the lantern body can cause corrosion and lead to malfunction or failure. Clean and inspect after use.

Other Precautions

Danger!

Never inhale gas from cartridges.

Reason Inhaling gas can lead to severe injury and death from lack of oxygen. Never inhale the gas under any circumstances.

Warning!

Never attempt to disassemble or modify this product.

Reason Slove and ianlen unils as well as fuel canisters are precision devices manufactured to extremely close tolerances. Forcible disassembly for purposes of modification may cause damage to the parts themselves and destroy this subtle balance. This may result in abnonmal combustion, incomplete combustion and may lead to gas leaks. Never attempt to repair or disassemble this product.
