Safety instructions

  • The device is only suitable for indoor operation!
  • Do not use the device in wet or moist environments.
  • Do not operate the device with a damaged measuring cable.
  • Lay the measuring cable such that it does not come into contact with rotating parts in the engine compartment.

CAUTION: Damaged measuring cables mean there is a danger to life through electric shock. Dispose of the device if the measuring cable is damaged. Measuring cables are not intended to be repaired.
EXPLOSION AND FIRE HAZARDS: Ensure that explosive or flammable substances, such as petrol or solvents cannot be ignited when you are using the device!  Keep sources of ignition (e.g. open fire, lit cigars, cigarettes or electric sparks) away from the starter batteries.
DANGER OF CAUSTIC BURNS: Protect your eyes and skin from caustic burns from the acid (sulphuric acid) when it comes into contact with the battery! Do not look directly at the battery when it is connected and use acid-resistant safety goggles, clothing and gloves! If your eyes or skin have come into contract with the sulphuric acid, flush the affected body region with plenty of clear, running water and seek medical advice at once!

  • Avoid an electrical short circuit when connecting the device to the battery. Only connect the red quick contact connector clamp 3 to the positive terminal (“+”) of the battery. Only connect the black quick contact connector clamp 4 to the negative terminal (“-”) of the battery.
  • Only touch the quick contact connector clamps 3 and 4 on the insulated area!

ATTENTION: AVOID MATERIAL DAMAGE FROM IMPROPER USE!

  • Only use the device with the original parts it was delivered with!
  • Keep the contact surfaces of the battery free of dust and lubricants. Clean the contact surfaces with a clean, dry cloth as necessary.

Operation

  • First connect the red quick contact connector clamp 3 to the positive terminal (“+”) of the battery.
  • Then connect the black quick contact connector clamp 4 to the negative terminal (“-”) of the battery.
  • During the measurement process, the device can be fixed to the vehicle body using the magnetic strips 2 on the back of the device.

Testing batteries and alternators
Select operating mode

  • The device automatically detects whether a 6 V or 12 V battery is connected.
  • If this function does not work (e.g. discharged 12 V battery is detected as a 6 V battery), then set the selector switch 1 on the front of the device to 6 V or 12 V, depending on the type of battery or alternator to be tested.

Battery test/Starting capability

  • If only the “very low charged” LED lights up, the battery charge level is low. In this LED status the electrical voltage in 6 Volt operating mode is approximately 5.8 Volt and in 12 Volt operating mode it is approximately 11.5 Volt. The battery must be recharged.

  • If the “half charged” LED lights up, the battery is approximately half charged. In this LED status the electrical voltage in 6 Volt operating mode is
approximately 6.1 Volt and in 12 Volt operating mode it is approximately 12 Volt. It is recommended that the battery is recharged.

  • If the “fully charged” LED lights up, then the battery is fully charged and ready to start. In this LED status the electrical voltage in 6 Volt operating mode is approximately 6.4 Volt and in 12 Volt operating mode it is approximately 12.6 Volt.

Attention: Please refer to the operating instructions about the maintenance of the battery prior to charging!
Please note: If no LED lights up in 6 V operating mode, then it can be assumed that the battery is defective or deeply discharged. If an LED in the 6 V operating mode lights up when a 12 V battery is connected, then it can be assumed that the battery is deeply  discharged or defective.

Alternator test

  • Connect the device to the battery as described under “Operation”.

  • Start the engine and switch on all consumers (headlights, radio, heated rear window, etc.).

  • Briefly increase the idle speed to 2500 RPM.

  • If the “charging function O.K.” LED to “charging function MAXIMUM” lights up, the alternator or voltage regulator is OK. In this LED status the electrical voltage in 6 Volt operating mode is approximately 6.7 Volt or 7.3 Volt and in 12 Volt operating mode it is approximately 13.2 Volt or 14.5 Volt.

  • If the “Overvoltage/controller defect” LED lights up, then the alternator or voltage regulator is defective. In this LED status the electrical voltage in 6 Volt  operating mode is approximately 7.8 Volt and in 12 Volt  operating mode it is approximately 15.5 Volt. In this  case contact your motor vehicle garage.

Cleaning
DANGER OF ELECTRIC SHOCK: Always disconnect the connection to the battery, before you clean the device. Under no circumstances should you immerse the device in water or hold it under running water.
ATTENTION: POSSIBLE MATERIAL DAMAGE: Do not use any aggressive or abrasive detergents, as these could corrode the surface of the housing.
Clean the outside of the housing with a slightly damp cloth.

Information about recycling and disposal
DO NOT DISPOSE OF ELECTRICAL TOOLS IN HOUSEHOLD WASTE! DON’T THROW AWAY – RECYCLE!
According to European Directive 2012/19/EU, used electrical devices must be collected separately for environmentally compatible recycling or recovery.

Electrical and electronic devices which have become waste are called old devices. Owners of old devices are obliged to place them in a collection which is  separate from unsorted municipal waste.
Owners of old devices have old batteries and old rechargeable battery packs, which are not enclosed by the old device, as well as bulbs which must be separated from the device before it is handed in at a collection point. This does not apply if the old devices are handed in to public waste disposal authorities and they are separated from other old devices there for the purposes of preparation for recycling. If you are unsure, please contact an independent specialist. Owners of old  devices from private households can hand these in to collection points for public waste disposal authorities or collection points which have been set up by  manufacturers or distributors in line with the ElektroG (German disposal of electrical equipment act). The disposal of defective devices which you have sent in  will be carried out free of charge. You can also return the old device to your Kaufl and branch, free of charge. As the end user, it is your responsibility to delete any personal information on the old devices to be disposed of.

Please return this device, accessories and packaging to your local recycling depot.
Please note the marking on the different packaging materials and separate them as necessary. The packaging materials are marked with abbreviations (a) and digits (b) with the following definitions: 1–7: Plastics, 20–22: Paper and cardboard, 80–98: Composite materials.
